Catalytic converter and ignition replacement assistance
 

Hey All,

Anyone near the Brandon/Jackson/Madison area that might be able to assist me in the replacement of the ignition system (coils, plugs, wires) and a cat? I can offer payment for assistance if required. The local dealership wants close to $3,000 to do it all -- heck I can get the parts myself for under $500 it seems.

This would really help me out of a bind. Heck, I just sent a check to pay the sucker off -- it sucks that this had to happen right after that and 4K miles after the cat warranty expired.

You're right about getting the parts yourself! Except for the CAT.....doesn't seem you figured that in.
So.........how many miles on this car?

Seriously, if you can use a socket wrench at all, you could do all of the above. It's really not that difficult at all. Even the CAT isn't terribly bad.
There are plenty of DIY's on here that would walk you through exactly what to do.

Even if you don't want to do it or can't. Buy the parts as you suggested and then call around to some shops and see what they would charge you to install. Choose wisely here though.



Oh.......and how do you know the CAT is bad?
I'll assume for a second that it is. You know you can take it off and just bust up the insides, get it all out of there and put it back on until you can find one right?

I'd help for free, but driving from Florida is out of the question.

It is reasonably priced. I certainly am not paying $1200 for an oem one. I have a feeling I could pull off the repairs (at least the ignition systems..). As far as the CAT I just probably need some type of lift to ensure I can get up under the vehicle.

Ignition is super easy once you get the drivers side wheel off. Cat can be done by any exhaust shop. I'd say you could do that yourself but chances are it hasn't ever been off and is seized on there. Bhr ignition and midpipe with cat?

I'd bet that as long as you use some good soaking agent overnight that you could get the CAT off without too much trouble.
Most people hit it with PB blaster or whatever and let it sit.

Yea I know I let my catback bolts sit for about 20 minutes (I'm not patient enough to wait all night) with PB Blaster and they weren't budging. I had to use a torch and about 3 times more effort than I wanted to get them off. Houston is about 7 1/2 hours too far away for me to help. Sorry lol
