Calling all INTAKES

hey guys - i'm trying to get a really good idea of what all the intakes sound like before i make my purchase. i was interested in the new K&N, revi, and now the AEM thanks to some nice forum members that posted sounds clips.

It's just too hard to make a decision from a sound clip! i've never been any of the meets in the DFW area, but i'd like to go to one if there are some people with these mods. I live in the uptown area of dallas if there's anyone close, otherwise i'll keep my eye out for the next meet. Until then ...

A few of us have the REVi and Jenkins-Crew has another one (I forget which one). Your best bet is to come out to the big DFW meet Feb 4 and check them all out then. You'll hear lots of different sounds. Of course, you're welcome to come to the BJ's meet too!!

The K&N typhoon sounds good too.

LOL, that's a good one.

In all honesty, I don't know. I know that K&N claims hp gain, but testing results weren't consistant. I think REVi had some minor hp gains... There's probably some good info the the tech section on this topic.

i have the aem on my wb, and it dyno'd at 181 hp 136 tq, and the only other mods i had done were custom grounding kit and royal purple in engine and tranny.

The aftermarket section is filled with intake information. None of the intakes are actually giving out much more than 3 hp. If there is a particular brand that you are fond of, you might as well go with them. I personally have the SR Motorsports intake (you can find pictures of it all over this site), I will add a video to this thread later.

Okay, I found this video on this site a long time ago, and couldn't find the thread it was in so I'll post it here.

...and here is a picture of my engine bay with it.

I installed the K&N Typhoon.

It can often be quite difficult to judge how loud an intake or exhaust system sounds without a point of reference. To resolve this, I have created before and after audio samples.

First the before - stock intake system at 8 feet away with the hood open.

Before Audio Sample

Start - Idle - rev to 3K RPM - rev to 5K RPM - rev 6.5K RPM - 8K RPM - off

Now for the after sample. Recorded in the same location, same distance from car, same gain settings - everything exactly the same.

After Audio Sample

Start - Idle - rev to 3K RPM - rev to 5K RPM - rev 6.5K RPM - 8K RPM - off
