Battery?? PLEASE HELP!!

hey guys, its been a while-

i have been away on buisess this whole week, so the 8 has been sitting here since last sunday.. i just now decided, to go start it up, to get the fuel pumping *yadda yadda yadda* just wanted to start it up and let it run for a while before shutting it down..

well when i started it up, the battery indicator came on, that is the first time since ive had the car that it came on...so i let it stay there for a while idling, hoping the alternator would bring it back to life ...it didnt...so i grabbed the wallet and took it around the block, winding it out...

when i would get to high rpm's the lcd would go off, but it would come back on when the rps would drop...so now im on the main highway, and all of a sudden the radio's lcd/dash light lcd's started flickering, headlights even went off...every lcd the dash has was lite up
*i am pulled in a parking lot by now* , i then lost my power steering...the car never died tho...i turned off the radio/air/even the lights and just kept reving the car up...it was backfiring a little *probally because its been sitting there for a while*...
after about 5 min. of doing this, everything at once just shut off and it was back to normal, no batterlight, no power flickering, and i had all my controls, car was handing great...like nothing ever happend..

this is my first time this has ever happens, so i really dont know what to expect/do...my guess is that it was my battery was low? has this happend to anybody, or known of this to happen? i hope this makes sence, and now im starting to wear my 8 will be sitting for long periods of time from here on out...any suggestions?

I think there was a TSB for the battery on some of the VINs... do a quick search in the tech forum for issues on the battery and see what you come up with. Hopefully this solves the problem and you can get your battery replaced.

IMO, the back firing probably wouldn't have anything to do w/the battery. This is normal for rotary engines. I also don't think the car sitting unused for one week would be a big deal, unless a light was left on or something.

yea, i dont know...just i have never had one problem with the car ...then i let it sit for a week and all hell breaks loose for about 10 min. then its fine....im hoping its just that the battery needs to be juiced up a bit

I just took mine in this week for a new battery (dealer replaced for free). Only 11,000 miles and just over one year.

Cheers,

Ben
