Anyone willing to help install foglights, etc near Dallas ?
 

Hey, I'm new to this forum and the Mazda world in general. I previously owned a 1990 300ZX and just recently got rid of it and purchased a 2004 RX-8. Bought it used, but it's in good shape. It's a 6 speed and has the spoiler, but doesn't really have much else in the way of options that I can tell. I want to add the OEM foglights, airdam and possibly some other stuff. I read that the foglights are relatively easy, but I'm new to this car so I don't know my way around it yet and I always have the worst luck at removing bumpers. I read the thread that gave the steps, but didn't say where anything was location wise (like the screws). I'd be willing to pay someone to either give me a hand installing the lights (and possibly the front air dam - depending on if I get the money to get it soon) or do it themselves (would prefer the help so I can get a look at what all it is about under there). Foglights should be pretty easy if they are pre-wired. Just remove the bumper, screw in the plastic mount and foglight, wire it up, line everything up and put it back together.

If not it might be a PITA to tap the parking light or some other source to get them to turn on and off with that and/or wire them to a foglight switch. My guess is that it's semi-pre wired

Well from what I read on here, they should be pre-wired, but as I mentioned above, I really don't know much about the car and don't know how to get the bumper on and off.

bumper is like 10 minutes tops, there's about 100 diy's on here on how to take it off, do a search young jedi :)

It's pretty self explanatory. Take out all the fender liner clips, bolts/clips underneath and it just slides off. There is nothing hidden and no special tricks. Bolt the brackets into the bumper, bolt the foglights into the brackets, plug the harness in and put everything back. I'd say it's about on par with changing your oil. Try it first and if you get stuck I'm sure one of us would be willing to help.

So far, I've been searching and it might be self explanatory for those who know these cars, but so far, I think I've found one guide and there are quite a few hidden screws (like behind the wheelwell), so it is a bit harder than stated, but hopefully with that guide I can get it figured out. I appreciate your help and the "try it first and if you get stuck" approach, but since it's my only transportation, I can't really afford to just start taking stuff apart and halfway through, get on here and hope that someone helps me out before I have to go somewhere afterwards. I'll see if that guide will help, but that's why I would've felt more comfortable with someone with some experience locally that could give me a hand (as per my original request).

If I remember correctly there are about 4 on the inside of the wheel to remove and 10ish underneath to unscrew and then pop the hood and maybe two in there. All in all it is really simple and only takes 10min to remove the front bumper. There is a DYI where someone circled all the spots where the screws where. The search button is your galaxy.

Thanks, I found the DIY page, but the search function was useless. I searched "remove bumper," "remove front bumper," etc. It came up with a lot of stuff, but nothing that had the steps (just people mentioning it). I used to be a part of the Nissan Z forums and people would tell people to search all the time, but not realize that the search feature on these forums are not always perfect. I ended up having to look up threads for people because I knew the search wouldn't turn it up for them.

I found it first try in under 10 seconds. Search by "titles only" under advanced search and type "front bumper removal" After doing it once myself I promise an 8 year old cub scout could do it. It's basically a bunch of bolts, a few plastic clips, take out your side markers and pull the bumper up over the pin and slide it off. If you still can't figure it out after reading the write up then I might be able to help you if I have some time. Good luck.

thanks, that's the one I found, but as I said, you'd have to know to try "removal" and not "remove." (I was thinking someone might put - how do you "remove" the front bumper, etc). You could search remove, removal, take off, disconnect - my point is, that the search feature isn't a perfect thing, so it's not like I didn't put forth the effort .

I agree on the search function. Seems to work completely different on every site I use.
