Don't forget the air mattresse!!

I8U 09-24-2009 11:20 AM

Ehhh, I'm good. I'll be fine with just a sleeping bag. I can sleep anywhere. ;)

edit
I just got word from VIR, that the car corrals will be centered around The Gallery. That's a good walk to the main paddock...I was hoping they would have put us up near the skid pad as they did for the Rolex race in April. Maybe someone can pull some strings? ;)

:ylsuper:

I enjoyed the gallery area last year.

G-ReX 09-27-2009 08:57 PM

I liked the gallery because of the shade and it's central to the paddock, the Patriot track, the skidpad & the Roller Coaster viewing. It's good as long as they let us camp with the cars. I hope they leave the Gallery building open overnight for the bathroom.

I8U 09-28-2009 10:59 AM

I just wasn't sure if anybody had issues with the walking from there to the main paddock...others have said they like this location as well so, it's good. We won't be the only clubs in that area this year so we'll see how it works out.

msumlin 09-28-2009 11:15 AM

As far as the location, I am not sure where we'll be located. I sent an e mail to Steve Focazio to see if he can find some informaion for me to pass along. Since this is an Octoberfest event, why don't we bring some type of local beers.

Since we are coming from Cleveland, we'll bring some Great lakes brew, as it is from our local brewery. What do you guys think? I talked to Tom Long of Freedom Autosports, they are looking forward to the event as well, should be a lot of fun, we'll see you in a few days!!!

Turbo II 09-28-2009 01:03 PM

The "message" I got from VIR was this:

Off Track Activities - Speed is only part of the attraction for fans for Octoberfest. Other activities include a 'sound off' competition testing custom stereo installations, a car show, a Children's Fun Zone, fan parties with live music on both Friday and Saturday nights, plus the Playboy Bunnies, VIR Girls and much more.

The Sound off and Car Show and Car Club Corrals all take place around the VIR Gallery. Located between the Patriot Course and the North Paddock the VIR Gallery will be the central location to park your neat ride in the car show, check out the sound off and see all the amazing rides expected to attend. Prizes will be awarded to the best cars according to our judges.

At the fan parties, music on the PA will start as soon as the track goes cold. Then the band Nex-Faze will take the stage from 7:30-10:30 on both Friday and Saturday. Nex-Faze plays an awesome mix of classic rock, 80's, 90's & modern rock and country as well. The VIR Girls will be at the parties with various give-aways for the fans from our sponsors. And what would Octoberfest be without beer? Special sponsors of the fan parties are Spaten and Leinenkugel's Octoberfest - two premium beers that will be served at the fan parties along with food for those that work up an appetite dancing!
So maybe we park at The Gallery again like last year? :dunno: I suggest just follow the signs when ya get there and look for a group of Mazdas!

I've also had lots of people asking me about the VIR car clubs part, like the hats, food tickets, Playboy Bunnies , etc... They're wanting to know where they are suppose to go to pick them up (not the bunnies) or what they are suppose to do and I was wondering if anyone had any info on that.

BTW, we're going to need a bigger boat.

I am sure that they will have an desinated area where you can pick up the hats, etc. I will try and find out for you, we should have a good turn out, which I am looking forward to.

I8U 09-28-2009 06:03 PM

Is it Friday yet!? Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Thanks Marlon!

We have 23 confirmed on Facebook with 14 maybes and 14 who haven't replied.
I have 2 different Miata clubs that will be joining us Saturday morning for a caravan to VIR (which I've been told could be 15 cars or more) plus the people that are going to show up from those 2 clubs on their own for the event.
I have another Mazda club with about 10 people who say they are going to show up for the weekend.
We have everyone from here (some of which can be found elsewhere), the crew from the CVMC, and then hopefully a few from the INC, MSCCNC, the RX-7 Club, the Rotary Car Club, Mazdas Forums 24/7... and I posted it on MySpace today.

Plus whatever has been posted elsewhere by others...

So yeah I think we'll have a good turnout as well and it should be quite a bit of fun. Looking forward to it!

7andan8 09-28-2009 06:20 PM

Fingers crossed for the weather girl too...I've been watching Stephanie Abrams on the weather channel. I think she likes me. So I'll see if I can get her to order sunshine in abundance for Saturday.

This is a fine idea sir. My favorite local NC brew only comes in kegs :( but I'll see what I can drum up :).

I8U 09-28-2009 07:17 PM

I think I may bring some REAL German wheat beer. I'm a huge Hefeweiss fan!!!

theused7151 09-29-2009 11:13 AM

Hey guys I'll be down there in my titanium grey 2007 rx8...but driving for AMG in the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup. Be sure and cheer me on! Not sure what car number I'll be in yet!

Wow, I know a number of drivers in the MX-5 Cup, Todd Lamb, Mark Miller & Team MER, Stan Wilson, Randy Hale and a number of others........Can anyone stop Todd?

msumlin 09-30-2009 09:46 AM

I am working on trying to get a private paddock tour of the Strevenson Motorsports paddock. They are running the new Camaro in GS. Also, the Blackforest Challenger is going to be making an appearance as well.

Nice to see some new entries in the GS Class!

I8U 09-30-2009 11:13 AM

Cool, yeah I really wanted to take a look at those 2 cars in particular!

Nic, go by Grand-Am registration to pick up your other ticket.

I8U 09-30-2009 06:01 PM

Yeah man. I think I picked it up from there last time too. Thanks again!

make sure you go to the Grand-Am registration window, not SCCA's.

G-ReX 10-01-2009 12:30 PM

Parade laps are listed as "1:10-2:10 Car Club and Spectator Laps (spotters versus full flagging)(pace and chase cars)" for Saturday. Any idea if we have to sign up at the VIR store if we're already signed up with Mazda group? I won't be arriving until about noon Saturday. so I don't want to miss out.

We are already signed up, I will also contact Steve Focazio of Grand-Am, to have him re-confirm our particpation. With that being said, we are going to need all of the particpants at the corral by 12:00 noon, as we have to sign waivers and have a drivers meeting, to review the rules.

Also, I will be arriving at the track early on Saturday morning to help organize the corral and to set up the paddock tours. If anyone needs anything or has concerns, please call me @ 440-382-3636 (cell). If I don't answer right away, please leave a message and I will return the call.

I8U 10-01-2009 04:26 PM

Myself and the rest of my group will be there around 830 Saturday morning, we'll be able to help you out Marlon.

mrthundercleese 10-01-2009 06:52 PM

Is anyone else planning to go up on Friday? I am.

OK, I'll have to move up my departure time a little bit. Wish me luck getting the kids up.

7andan8 10-01-2009 09:39 PM

Marlon, I mentioned it to Nic. I got a call from Crista Walker @ VIR today about picking up all of our "freebies" for the group, hats and such. I told her I would get them Saturday morning if no one else had. It sounds like you are picking them up?

She also said we appeared to be the largest registered group with 39 cars! Mazda rules!!!

Greg and I are getting there tomorrow evening. I don't mind picking up the stuff if it would help Marlon out (one less thing to do is always a plus right :) ). I'll check back in here again tomorrow before I head out.

And Mazda FTW!

I8U 10-01-2009 10:05 PM

Yeah, thanks Bobby. That would help. When you get there, just make sure you get a hold of Crista Walker...she's got the goods. Oh yeah, I'm sure you know, but see if they can give an assortment of sizes in t-shirts...I'm sure L and XL will cover most in the group...but we have a handfull that will need smaller and larger. Thanks!

theused7151 10-01-2009 10:31 PM

I'll be stopping by a lot this weekend...really upset I couldn't bring down my rx8...but I'm racing the #19 AMG MX-5 Cup Car! Cheer me on...! :)

Guys, that would be fantastic! Any help would be appreciated, please ask Crista is she can add 4 hats and t's for my Ohio volunteers, me included.

1-large
1-XL
1-2X if the have it a
1-medium

Thanks...

Also, please make sure we have organized parking in the corral, it does not mean that all of the 8's, 7's, etc have to be together, but I want us to look very organized, as I am going to see if we can get some photo ops with the VIR Girls, and also the Playboy Bunnies too!

Thanks for stepping up and helping out,.....once again, Mazda leads!

7andan8 10-02-2009 09:02 AM

Okay Bobby, I'll send Christa an email now telling her you will be by today to get the goodies! Ask the parking attendants to direct you to the Registration Building (Crista Walker).

msumlin 10-02-2009 12:15 PM

Steve Focazio is finalizing the meet and greet with Stevenson, so we can see the new Camaro first hand. For you youngsters out there, this Camaro is being driven by the sons of the original Penske Camaro back in 1969!

It should be a lot of fun and once again, I love the fact that Mazda owners have stepped up and claimed the highest number of registrations for the car clubs, says a lot about us! Great job, by all

We will also have paddock tours of Team MER ( Jason Saini is an owner) in the MX-5 cup, they'll also be stepping by to check out our corral as well. We'll see everybody tomorrow.

I8U 10-04-2009 05:43 PM

Once again, AWESOME event Marlon!!! I really enjoyed myself and I'm sure everyone else did as well. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in promoting and putting this all together.

Also, if anybody has pics of me or my car with The Playmates and/or the VIR girls especially the "kissing" photo, please email me full size copies, thank-you!

7andan8 10-04-2009 07:38 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Sorry Nic, no kissing photos of you in my camera. But I did find a couple...

Attachment 271556

...and there are tons more coming!!!

Thanks for a great weekend!! Goes out to everyone there!

mrthundercleese 10-04-2009 07:48 PM

This weekend was fresh off the grooler hot. Thanks Marlon, Lori (I hope I spelled her name correctly), Grand-Am, and everyone else who helped put this on. I'll have pics up tomorrow sometime. Still blowing from all the walking hahaha.

I8U 10-04-2009 08:20 PM

HAHA, thanks John. Anybody remember the Playmates names...I apparently wasn't paying attention when they told me.

theused7151 10-04-2009 10:56 PM

Did anyone watch the MX-5 Cup Race from today? I got taken out at the top of the roller coaster section and wanted to know if anyone saw it? I was in third in the #19 Blue AMG Machine

7andan8 10-05-2009 06:27 AM

I just flipped through all of my action shots and sorry, no #19. Unfortunately I was focusing on the Freedom Autosport team since we met all of those guys in their pits. I got a semi-crash of a Porsche and a Beamer at the top of Roller Coaster, does that count?

I believe we met your Dad though didn't we? It was nice of him to come over. Good luck on the next run.

msumlin 10-05-2009 08:30 AM

Thanks to all that came out and lent a hand, it was great to see everyone again. I can say that Mazda, VIR and grand -Am was very happy with our group! As far as the parade laps, we were the best organized group, as eveidenced by us getting up to 90 MPH in the straights.

Also, it was nice to have "our club" do the gridding for the race, since we had the highest number registrants for the car club. I am guess I am most proud that we beat out Porsche, Cobalts, Mustangs and other makes and models. it did not go unoticed.

It was great that Freedon took first and third in ST, I think Mazda may have finished either 2nd and 3rd in the manufacturers championship. Also, here is some news for 2010, Freedom Autosport will be running 2010 Mazdaspeed 3's in ST, along with Team MER!!!

So we'll get to see the debut of the cars @ the 24 Hours of Daytona. As you know, Grand-Am is working on special pricing, infiled access for the KONI race and a host of other special events.

Again, thanks for showing what Mazda owners are all about, both on and off the track, we'll see all of you for the 24 hours race in January!

Big thanks to Marlon and the folks at Mazda & Grand Am for all the hospitality. My kids and I had a great time. My son's digging his picture with the bunnies, but the kids were most impressed by getting to hold the marshalling numbers in the pits. Awesome stuff.

I missed it. Most of us were watching down by Nascar. There were some tight bunches of cars coming through - really fun to watch.

How you guys like the parade laps? It was fun having the wife toss around the wagon, espcially through the uphill esses! We are looking at coming back to VIR with the MSP for an HPDE as soon as we can fit one in!

The parade laps were much more spirited than I anticipated after seeing the other groups run on Saturday. Very nice.

msumlin 10-06-2009 09:11 AM

just got a conformation from Steve Focazio of Grand-Am, we will have full access to the stands on top of the garages for the KONI race, another Mazda Corral exclusive, for our membership.

In addition, we are working on the pricing fo rtyhe event, we will have our own dedicated Mazda owners campsite, tech talks with KONI officials, Pirelli, Hoosier and other sponsors. We will have our "private paddock tours" with the Mazda teams and so on.

So stay tuned for pricing, which we'll have hopefully in two weeks, as the folks at Grand-Am are excited once again to have the Mazda owners supporting both KONI and the ROLEX Series.
