Bad Dealers

Al Sanchez Mazda, Gilroy, CA
SALES: NEGATIVE. I sent an email to Al Sanchez, detailing exactly what I was looking for (equipment, trim, colors, etc). A salesman called and despite the specs I gave him, kept trying to tell me about cars they had on the lot that did not meet my specs. He offered to check around for what I wanted, but he never called back.
SERVICE: NEUTRAL. I have had two service experiences with them, one good, one bad. The first one was to realign the doors. This was accomplished correctly. The second time was to replace a faulty hatch latch on my wife's Mazda 6S. They kept the car the whole day, never called me to tell me it was done (I had to call them) and when I picked up the car, the repair had not been completed. Apparently Mazda uses a plastic part in the latch mechanism that is prone to fail and the mechanic just put the latch back together (instead of replacing the bad part).

Not a very useful comment. Could you please elaborate, by dealership, what your problems were?

I have done business with Biddulph, over in Peoria AZ at around 84th Avenue and Bell Road. I actually have an Oldsmobile Alero. They sold Oldsmobiles before they stopped making them. I have also test driven an RX-8 there. No pressure, polite, didn't even make me fill out paperwork before the test drive. Anyway, the repair work on the Olds was always done the same day. They were always very friendly. Dennis, one of the service guys there even pointed out a problem with the door panel that I had not noticed and fixed it.

Big time POSITIVE for Biddulph. Take your car there.

128 Mazda service sucks!

Wow ... went in cause my car was flooded , they said its 240 ... then I was like its covered under warranty! , they said no flooding is not covered , infact mazda has never paid them ever to fix flooded cars on their lots. Then I go wtf and leave and leave my car there for them to work on ... low and behold they find my intake and are like " You caused the flood so you are being cahrged 240 for it because the PCM code read air fuel ratio was thrown off and a TSB came in that said K&N intake filters flood cars ? " wtf ... I thought the TSB said it messes up idle on some cars, and some other stuff. Now they say " Oh your car is heavily modified" ... wow , intake exhaust on currently when I brought it in ,and they call it heavily modified ? They even won't replace my brakes .... and they squeel

regehr,

This is your typical bait & switch. If you look at every car dealer ad in the newspaper that is not directly from the factory, you'll see this happens every week in almost every paper in the country and the deal usually is impossible to get. It's all in the fine print which usually specifies one vin # which is usually sold, an outrageous down, a high credit beacon, etc. I'm not saying it's right, but not a new idea either. Just shop around at as many dealers as you can, search the boards for what other owners paid, and be patient. You will be hardpressed to get a $20k car for $249 per/month no down, let alone a $30k car.

ANAHEIM MAZDA, Anaheim CA: NEGATIVE

Accomodates while you wait appointments, but refuses to use the specified grade of oil (5W20) for the RX-8. Doesn't even carry that weight of oil.

WEST COVINA MAZDA, West Covina CA: Was POSITIVE, but is currently NEGATIVE

Positive: They accomodate while you wait appointments, they use the correct weight oil, gave no hassle about doing the PCM reflash, and they'll even wash your car for free. Negative: I called several days in advance for an appointment for the recall work to be done, I took a day off work to bring it in, waited over two hours, and then was told that "We have to order the parts. We can't do the recall work until the parts come in." SO WHY DIDN'T THEY ORDER THE PARTS KNOWING THE CAR WAS COMING IN FOR THE RECALL WORK??

Edit: It has now been one whole week since they told me they were ordering the parts, and they still have not called to tell me they're in. This is ridiculous. If Mazda sent out recall letters, don't you think they'd have an adequate stock of the parts required to do the recall work? I have no patience for incompetence.
I Live in Claremont and totally agree about Claremont Mazda - so worthless that I bought from West Covina Mazda.
I've not had any real trouble with West Covina Mazda - I've gone in on a regular basis and just got my 30,000 mile service. They wanted to charge me $535 for the service because they didn't realize it was a free one (the only Mazda car to get a free 30k they then said??). They are sloppy when it comes to adding washer fluid - gone in empty and came out empty, so now I check (wasn't done for my 30k service). Also, they seemed to have stopped giving me the form that gives the conditions of brake pads and tires. My A/C **** was broken - still they don't have a replacement!! The did another M flash (my 3rd!!) and the car is a little rougher at idle now,
They MAY be under new management - the sign now reads Star Mazda.
Just realized - I know longer get a call after my service asking for my imoressions of the dealership and service. Uh oh???

Galpin Mazda - Van Nuys, CA

BIG Negative.

Selling "NEW" 2004 8's with 200+ miles on them...No window stickers on them and broken interior parts.

Also, lojack for $600 was 'added' once we started talking #'s.

NEGATIVE: Jim Ellis Mazda- Marietta

I ordered a Red, fully loaded 05 from Jim Ellis-Marietta. Told the salesman Red (he wrote it down and took $500 from me), told the sales mgr, Red (twice). They gave me the VIN # which I called in to Mazda USA to verify the car I ordered was correct. She said yep its on its way to the dealer, BLACK w/ Red & Black Interior! Called the salesman, he said yep it would be in the next day, "Black, right?" (Moron). "Well, I guess we have a problem then". "I'll find you one".

Two days later, noone from the dealership had called me, so I called him. "Oh, the district sales mgr is on vacation, so I can't locate a car for you" (Lies).

Called MazdaUSA again, they found me an 05 exactly how I wanted it, IN 5 MINUTES! "Team Mazda Lithia Springs has one due to arrive the first week in Oct.", she said.

Couldn't the saleman have made a 5 minute call to sell a 35K car?

czr,
actually, i removed my post because, after a nasty letter, they honored their ad -- lease deal = $249/mth + tax (=$263), but they did charge about $1k in up front fees (bank fee, title, reg, inspection, etc.), for an rx-8 with msrp $31,240. i pick it up monday.

Poor Service - Town North Mazda, Richardson TX

Sales: Bad. Dealer told me the car was shipped from another dealer in San Antonio. However, they forgot to remove the "Freeman Mazda, Irving" sticker. Irving is no where near San Antonio. In fact, it was a 15 minute drive.

Service: Bad. Brought my car in for the "rock in condensor" problem and they did not warranty the issue. Also, they called me and told me the problem is fixed however, when I got to the dealer the car was still blowing hot air. They didn't believe me when I told them the car's A/C had problems and didn't even bother to look at the car. I had to show them the problem AGAIN! Wasted 2 hours of my time.

They also told me that they ordered me an A/C Amplifier but NEVER called me to tell me if the part ever arrived.

Tully Mazda in Nashua, NH--sales- NEGATIVE. Salesman said he could get me a car with my specifications in a week. I put down a deposit. Three weeks later asked for my deposit back as the $200 a week for a rental car was getting expensive. Both salesman and sales manager lied a lot. Bought car at IRA Mazda in Danvers, MA. Sales- mediocre. Some bs but bearable. Service so far not great but decent.

Thumbs down NEGATIVE: Gaithersburg Mazda, MD

My girlfriend purchased her RX-8 from Gaithersburg in July. She lives in Delaware, but was directed to Gaithersburg by the Costco Auto Program, and they had the configuration that she wanted in-stock. It had the two recalls performed already, but none of the TSBs (we had them all done elsewhere later).

The sales manager, Nacir Assadi, was very nice and professional. The actual salesman, though, was not RX-8 -savvy, and wasn't very personable. The no-haggle pricing from the Costco program, and some other adjustments the dealer included were acceptable.

The 'finance guy' was initially super-friendly, but his demeanor changed as soon as he realised that we weren't going to finance the car through them. We also repeatedly declined their hard-sell on LoJack/extended warranty/etc. He wasn't so friendly by the time we left, as if he was personally slighted by not making commission off of the sale.

The real problem came later. The dealership collected the Delaware tax/fees/whatever to process and obtain the tag and title, assuring her several times that they did out-of-state transactions all the time, and that the tags would arrive in a couple of weeks. We left with a Maryland temp tag on the car.

Time passed, and no tags. She called Gaithersburg repeatedly trying to get in touch with the sales manager, Nacir, but was always deflected by the operator who claimed that no management was on-site, that nobody knew when someone would be back, that they didn't have schedules, etc. Furthermore, someone who supposedly handled registrations was very rude and said that she had no right to call.

The temp tag expired. Mazda corporate customer service finally got involved a little bit - they reimbursed 2 days of a rental car while Gaithersburg again promised that the tag/title would be there overnight.... what actually showed up was another damn temp tag.

This dragged on for another month or so. Finally, just before the temp tag was to expire again, the real tag showed up... sort of. It was supposed to have been a tag, a sticker for the tag showing it had been registered for 4 years, the registration slip, and the title. The tag and title showed up, along with the registration slip, but no sticker (therefore illegal to install/use the tag). Also, the registration was for 2 years, not 4 as had been specified/paid for.

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Agency is not happy about the fact that they issued a second (illegal) temp tag for the vehicle, and has been apprised of the circumstances. We'll be letting the Costco Auto Program know about the poor customer service, too. Being out-of-state it's not like the dealer is going to get any service business from her, so the only recourse we have is to air the facts and let other people decide whether or not to do business with Gaithersburg.

Below is the letter sent to Gaithersburg and MNAO regarding this situation:

October 29, 2004

Nacir Assadi, Sales Manager
Gaithersburg Mazda

Dear Mr. Assadi:

I purchased a new RX-8 from Gaithersburg Mazda on July 10, 2004. At that time I paid to have the vehicle registered and requested to have the full four-year registration allowed by the State of Delaware. After repeated calls to Gaithersburg Mazda, the Delaware DMV, and the Maryland MVA, my temporary Maryland tags expired and I was left without legal means to drive the vehicle. I was repeatedly assured by Gaithersburg Mazda I would have my permanent tags before the temporary plates expired. Since I did not have valid registration on my new vehicle, I was forced to rent a car for two days (subsequently reimbursed by Mazda North America Operations).

After this time frame, I received a second set of temporary Maryland tags. By the end of November, I was still without my permanent Delaware registration and license plate. Once again, I made repeated phone calls to your organization, the Delaware DMV, and the Maryland MVA. During my inquiries, the MVA informed me it was illegal to have a second set of Maryland temporary tags, and that they would be taking the matter up with Gaithersburg Mazda. When I finally received my permanent plates (on 10/27/04), the registration sticker was missing and the accompanying paperwork indicated that the registration was for 2 years only, not the 4 years that I had requested. I once again received no help from Gaithersburg Mazda (attempts to reach you or other management by phone were unsuccessful as your operator claimed that no management was on-site and that no schedule was available for when any management personnel would be available) and was told to go to the Delaware DMV myself to obtain the registration sticker. After personally visiting the Delaware DMV, I was able to resolve the problem.

At this point, I have lost considerable time from work due to Gaithersburg Mazda’s failure to handle the registration in a legal and timely manner - a service that I paid for as part of the ‘Dealer Processing Charge’ line-item on my Buyer’s Order. I feel that Gaithersburg Mazda has acted in breach of contract, and has subjected me to unnecessary liability by issuing me a second, illegal set of temporary tags for a vehicle that I depend on for daily transportation.

My unsatisfactory customer service experience will be communicated to MNAO, as well as the RX-8 Owners’ Club. However, any satisfactory compensation for this experience, starting with a refund check for the $99.00 ‘Dealer Processing Charge’, will be likewise communicated. You may contact me at the above address regarding this issue.

Sincerely,

Dr. S----- L------, Ph. D.

Cc: James J. O’Sullivan, President & CEO, MNAO
UPDATE: This was originally posted on 02 November 2004, the day that the dealer should have received the above-quoted letter. Today, 8 November 2004, a cheque arrived in the mail from Gaithersburg Mazda for $99.00. The note on the cheque stub indicated that it was a refund of the processing charge (which the letter had requested). No enclosed letter, no apology, no explanation, only the cheque. Keeping our end of the bargain, this action by Gaithersburg Mazda is being communicated to complete the story.

Classic Mazda in Orlando FL

I had a bad experience with Classic Mazda in Orlando FL. I went to check around for a mazda rx8 on August 16, 2004. The computer was down and could not sign papers that day. So I loaned an 8 until the computer comes back and running again. It took about 4 days. So I was back there August 19. They had promised me that I will be getting a different 8 since it was only a loan car. Came to find out that day that I will be keeping the 8 I had for 4 days since I put on miles on the 8.

Alright, so I signed the papers since it was the silver 8 I wanted. I told them that I didn't want the rotary accents and cassette. So they ended up giving me this for free.

Alright the numbers on August 19 was, $27,115.00 + 9.99 APR/60months = $34,692.60. They called me on the August 23rd and told me that they can offer me a better interest rate and EVERYTHING will stay the same. My dad cosigned for me. So we went to the dealership and the new numbers were $26,808.45 + $2,328.28(Life and Disability) = $29,451.33 + 3.89 APR/72months = $33,119.28
I dont know why he added Life and Disability knowing that he told me that everything will stay the same just the APR will change. That is why I was wondering how the invoice jumped to $29,451.33 When I went back home that night I found out that the Finance Manager Keith Vogel had added the Life and Disability. The next day I went there to try and see if we can sign new papers again. Keith Vogel said that the already sent the papers to the bank. It got me thinking I purchased the car on the August 19th and you havent sent it til the 24th the day before I purchased the car the 2nd time?! hmm. Then he told me that he can cancel the Life and Disability but its gonna take 2-4 weeks. He made me fill out a Cancellation Request Form.

Two months came and no sign of any changes to the numbers. So I called them last week. I talked to Rob another Finance Manager. He told me that they sent out the check last October 25th. I checked my balance on the internet a few days ago and no sign of them sending a check to the bank. So I give them a call again yesterday. I talked to Rob and he said that the check was stopped. I was wondering why?! and that they will issue another check tomorrow.

The bank should receive the check next week. If Classic Mazda dont situate this at the end of November I'm about ready to go see the LEGAL that way it's less hassle for me. I'll have no choice but have Navy LEGAL help me on this.

Service-negative Took car in to get replacement bulb put in for rear tail light. I was told that the factory tail lights were aftermarkets by the service counter lady. Needless to say, They did not touch my Car. If they dont know that the 8 has clear lenses factory on them then why would u want them touching your car??????

BAD DEALERSHIP, Don Allen Mazda in Pittsburgh. Gave me a ton of crap about my brake pads and tail lights, saying they would not be covered under warrenty. Service staff was rude and could care less about customer service.

I then took my 8 to Moon Township Madza and they fixed everything, no questions ask!

Reliable Imports (aka Reliable Mazda)

Springfield, MO

I was planning on getting an '05, until I got an e-mail from the salesman about 5300 off MSRP for all '04 models. I checked the MNAO website and it listed 2 Red MT at this dealer, 1 of which met my specs. I contacted the dealer and he said that he had 1 Red left in stock (not the one I wanted). He quoted me a price with a 1195 addendum (code for dealer fees). He then said that the addendum did not affect me, but added it into the price. Also, his 5300 off, turned out to be only 5000.

I told him that MNAO listed 2 Red ones. I also said that the 1 I wanted was already gone, so I wasn't interested. He then changed his story and told me that he did have both Reds in stock. He quoted me a price of 1000 below invoice. That was also when he stopped responding to my e-mails.

caveat emptor!

Angry Negative: Magnussens Mazda in Newark/Fremont, California

This has been the worst experience in my life. Never trust a car salesman or manager. This is a long tale and scary to boot.
I bought my RX-8 thursday night(big mistake!!) before xmas at Magnussens in Newark/Fremont, Calif. Test drove week before other Rx-8 but the car I wanted was in another town. Only a few left in Calif. so I was told, so they had to search for it. Found a few within 60 miles.
Wanted to go to to Capitola where car was so I could see and make sure in A-1 condition. They had promised it to Newark even though I hadn't said I would buy. Finally said o.k. and said it had to be perfect and that they could get it and I would buy. Salesman went and picked it up and brought it back and I made mistake of trusting him. He said he walked around it 3 times and perfect. $10,000.00 down and signed paperwork and left dealer with new car(my xmas present to myself) at 10 p.m. Got on freeway and drove for about 10 miles then went to store to get cold medicine. Had about 20 minutes of happiness until....... Parked under big bright lights and got out. About screamed!!!! Multiple scratches below where you put gas in and 2 dents on right side rear wheel well. Few other scratches here and there that I could see. Immediatley called salesman and said i would have it back at 9 a.m and this was bull!!!!! Spent sleepless night being sick and worrying about this.
Took it back bright and early and told them no way. Not what I was told it was and they said give us a chance, we will fix. Few more scratches found and interior had soda can exploded inside that no one cleaned up also. Left it there at 10 a.m. 12/24 the day before xmas. Went in Sunday after xmas and talked to manager. Told him that car wasn't as promised and would of never bought it if I had seen dents and scratches. I told them I didn't want it and if I did take it they would have to do something for me. He said no way you are getting anything for free and tough. You bought it that's that. Left there crying. Went back next day and talked to boss over him. Told him story and he said they would fix and give me something extra. Told him also that had I seen it first I would never of bought it even though they said they would fix. That was sunday. Never heard back from them all week. Never called me at all. Meanwhile spent sleepless nights and not getting over being sick because of this. Went with friend back there following friday(1 week after I returned to them) and talked to guy and he took me to car. Still had numerous scratches and found even more stuff and dent on panel between front and back side window. They fixed 2 dents on wheel well and some scratches out below gas intake, that was all. Told guy no way. Had friend who wanted to get me a lawyer and take to court. Most $ spent in my life on a car and this is experience I am going through? Manager guy said if you take us to court I would lose so just take car and they will make right when weather gets better. Took car and had it for a week and a half and took back to them to fix things. They now have had it since last weds 1/12. Said would be done on 1/14. I had to call them!! Finally called me back and left message and said be ready on tues 1/18 and would touch base on 1/17. It is 1/18 at night now and haven't heard anything. I am tired of calling them. They gave me a loaner ford to use so i am not without car. This is just the worst experience I have ever had. I have been more than patient I would say. I have had the car for 3 1/2 weeks and they have had it 2 of those weeks. No end in sight?? Meanwhile 10 grand down and payment is already due this saturday and I haven't even had damn car to justify me spending more $. I am going to wait for them to call me. I am at the point that I am going to call the big boss tommorrow and try and let him to know what I have been going through. Not that it will do any good. The dealership is a Ford/Mazda dealership. At this point I am dealing with the Ford side because if I ever see the Salesman or Manager from the Mazda side I will go off on them. Never have sent me a survey yet. Can't wait tell they do!!
Thanks for letting me tell my story. Never had done anything like this before but am hopeing that someone who works for Mazda will see this and maybe try to make things right. Until then, 5 years of payments to go!!

Similar situation happened to me at Santa Monica Mazda. Almost took them to small claims court. Car dealers are all snakes, every one of them.

I know that sucks but “ worst experience in your life”, it’s just a car. My son was born 10 weeks pre-mature the ten weeks after that was the “worst experience in my life”. Sometimes we really need to ask ourselves are things really that bad?

Yes, my worst experience. I know there could be a lot worse things that could happen but for me as yet there hasn't been. On going for a month and still don't have the car. Don't have any premature kids to compare situation to and thankful that I haven't had worse things happen to me. When spending most $ ever on a car I think this sucks. Thanks for voiceing your opinion.
