Great Guy, Scott Rx8 Performance

Wanted to make this thread specifically, I know their is a lot of controversy over this vendor and wanted to share the great experience I had dealing with him.

Products I ordered where

The Performance Oil Cooler system (Two cooler, External Tstat@175 degrees, AN fittings and lines needed)
Trio Canister (Gloss black, serves as a catch can, SOHN Reservoir & washer fluid reservoir)
Throttle body Bypass
OBD relocation bracket.

All in all about 1500 bucks worth of products, which is a heavy amount of faith in a vendor. I will break this review down into 4 categories.

Customer Service
Lead time
Price
Quality

As these are the most basics of any transaction and everyone prioritizes on over the other.

Customer Service

As far as I am concerned this was great, to this day I have over 100 emails back and forth with Scott about everything containing to the purchases, all my questions where always answered promptly and he even goes out of his way to update me or inquire into the progression of my build on his own accord, which says something about his character that cannot be matched with words.

Lead Time

Considering the products I ordered are for the most part speciality built to order products, I was not expecting or cared to much about long lead times. I will say they took longer than expected but not longer then what I deemed to be an unacceptable amount of time, overall no complaints.

Price

As I have already said it before in other posts, yes you can always get things cheaper. I wanted a turn key kit, I did not want to source the right coolers, then make the brackets then fabricate the right AN lines with the proper fittings etc...

If you have time and the patience for that great, you will probably save yourself a couple hundred buck, I opted to buy something I knew would fit right and not give me headaches for that I went with a kit that I do not believe it overprices considered the RB lines sell for half this kit.

Quality

This is another area that excelled for me on two key points but overall just a great choice in components and overall skilled craftsmanship on all products received.
First area was dealing with the oil coolers, after talking with Scott he wanted to try out new bored AN connectors to see how they helped with flow and other characteristics. This was after I already received my kit and Scott called me out of the blue saying I can make it better for you, the initiative is impressive.
The other area was on the coating of my canister, the coating shop did not do a very good job, and instead of sending the product anyways, Scott noticed the problem and notified me. then proceeded to resend it out to be fixed.

Being that quality is my biggest concern and the amount of time that went into ensuring that I received the best possible products I can say that I will always buy from Scott at Rx8performance in the future. I believe that this vendor received a bad reputation a long time ago and that some of the more stubborn members and new members should evaluate him on his actions today, and not what people say happened years previous.

My two cents...

I bought a couple of items from him, not as much as you though.
And i can report positive results from this seller.

Glad to hear some positive stuff about this guy. I ordered an aluminum under tray about a month ago and it still has not been shipped. I have been emailing back and forth with Scott and he says they were out of stock when I first placed my order, but now they should have a new batch in. I haven't heard anything from him in a week, so I am going to ask for an update. Luckily I still have 15ish days to file a PayPal dispute if I must, but I am being patient.

Mercatis 08-06-2013 12:22 AM

John, I believe I bought the last one right before you placed your order then. I asked and he said he had one left so I took it. Which setup did you take? But I have to agree with Carbon8, Scott is a good guy to work with. I was going to fab some things out for the intercooler, and he said it would be easy for him to take my money, but believed I should be good and test a bit with the cooling options I have gone with thus far, then if all else I need more cooling, then we can discuss the fab things out.

Johnvx1k 08-06-2013 12:44 AM

I didn't buy a fan kit with the under tray. I just ordered the under tray it self as the OE plastic one got torn up on a trip up north. I need something that is more durable than plastic. Glad to hear you had a good experience as well though.

I bought the oil pan a long time ago and Scott's customer service was excellent along with a kick ass product. I also just ordered carbon header collector gaskets and they are sweet.

TeamRX8 08-19-2013 11:16 PM

Had to wait for the oil pan to be built, but I knew this upfront and wasn't in any hurry. Most of these products are hand fabricated and having experience with doing so myself sometimes it takes longer to build & finish them properly than was originally anticipated. Likely no need to file any dispute. If you have any concerns just contact Scott directly. Your money will most likely be returned on request should you prefer not to wait.

I have always gotten quick email responses from Scott. When a product I sent him to be looked at was lost in return shipping he had the insurance check sent directly to me. He may move a little slower than some, but I would use his services again.

i ordered the undertray, auxiliary cooler, and the cooling fan control kit in June or July-ish I think. I wasn't in any hurry, but hadn't heard anything for several weeks. When I emailed him, he gave me an update, and the parts arrived in the timeframe he provided. He also provided tech support on installation when I finally got around to installing them. I'll put him down as a good guy.

Anybody have any opinions or thoughts about his trubo kit? RX8Performance Turbo Kit by RX-8 Performance | RX8Performance.com

Carbon8 11-26-2013 07:15 PM

Honestly, I like his kit, It reminds of the turblown low mount kit that is apparently not for sale anymore. If I wasn't dead set on a pettit kit this would be one kit I would be drastically considering.

I would just make sure the MAF is placed near the filter to make it a draw thru, and tune it with a Cobb. Make sure to get the OMP heat shield and I don't see much more that should be needed, I could see 300WHP on 7-8 PSI safely.

Brettus 11-26-2013 07:23 PM

Have worked with this kit - seems pretty good . The owner did have to do a lot of mucking about to make everything fit though. I don't think it will be straightforward - but what turbo kit ever is ?

Carbon8 11-26-2013 07:25 PM

100% true Bret, anyone going into FI thinking that the kit is all they need and everything will be fine and dandy after 5 hours of installation is very misguided and should reconsider even thinking about going FI.

The major point for me with this kit, is just dealing with Scott (Rx8performance) the communication between him is top notch and any alterations needed or adjustments I am sure he will be more than happy working with you on. Its a major benefit that these kits are built to order to they can be customized to better suit your needs

Warrior777 11-26-2013 09:30 PM

Thanks for the answers guys. I really appreciate it. Its hard figuring out who to trust etc. I have so much to learn about turbocharging the 8. I've been reading through the build threads.

One question i have that i have not answered yet is how feasible is running a turbo'ed 8 on a road course? Say running 5, 15 min sessions. Any ideas if this is feasible and enjoyable or would i spend most of mine time messing with the turbo, etc.

Carbon8 11-26-2013 10:37 PM

Heres the only thread on this kit I can find around here, nothing but great reviews even from the members that are not very supportive on Scotts work.

:boink:

I have met Scott before, he seems like a standup guy. He got a little too busy in the past, made a few mistakes, and the forum mob attacked him.

9krpmrx8 02-15-2014 12:39 AM

Yeah it's all the forums fault. Poor, poor banned Scott.

dannobre 02-15-2014 12:43 AM

Classy Scott :( You are like a dog that someone stole his bone. .except you have never been personally involved....

You are bordering on slander as well. Why Don't you let it go. ...

9krpmrx8 02-15-2014 12:59 AM

That is the great thing about opinions, you can have yours and I can have mine.

shr3da 02-15-2014 02:23 AM

Not my person experience, but someone I know is still waiting on products from scott over a year later.

ShellDude 02-15-2014 09:00 AM

Someone should point out this thread to stick
