Good Guy: Pineapple Racing, Rob "Pineapple" Golden

Although Rob does not visit forums really I would still like to let everyone know about my great experience with Pineapple Racing and specifically Rob.

I spoke with most of the normal re-builders and my experiences were mixed. Some did not bother to respond, My first choice could not deliver in the time frame I was looking at due to having a ton of work at the time (which now seems funny since the whole build took much too long ), others seemed as if I was a nuisance with all my questions, and a few were very helpful and probably would have been safe to use but I just could not find enough references to take the risk of using them over a more reputable builder. Price was a concern but my main goal was an engine built for reliability in a boosted application. So after speaking with many people and quite a few builders I was reminded about Pineapple (thanks pdxhak!).

I called Rob and we probably talked for more than hour easy. He went over EVERYTHING. He explained why he doesn't do forums much, his opinion on the Renesis failures, fixes for the renny, turbocharging, cooling, etc., etc., etc. By the end of the conversation we decided on a direction and he emailed me a quote the next day.

I decided to not rebuild my Mazda reman and instead opted to rebuild a low mileage 2008 motor that he had received a day or two prior to our conversation. This motor was rebuilt with heavy duty water seals, stage 2 oil mods, oil passage porting, port work on the housings, and a few other things I don't remember  The only thing he recommended that I did not do, is ceremic apex seals due to the cost and the fact that I was doing a turbo kit build at the same time as this rebuild. In hind site, I should have done it because my budget went out the window after a month anyway

Anyway, throughout the install (as recently as yesterday) I had many questions and needed assistance here and there on many things not even related to the engine and Rob was always helpful and always had great input and ideas on how to do things. The guy just knows his shit.

So, start up time comes and I was a little scared after reading others problems getting new rotaries to start up. Well I turned the key and she started like she had been started a million times before. She smoked like crazy but as of last night the smoke has gone away and she purrs like a kitten :)

So, if you are considering an engine rebuild and you want a great rebuild and the process to go butter smooth, i suggest calling Rob at Pineapple Racing.

I too have found Rob to be a top professional who does what he says hes going to do, uses good parts and rebuilds to a high standard.

9K Yes, The guy sounds like a true professional and enthusiastic with passing on his knowledge and help to others...it is GREAT to see any seller go those extra miles...

IMO, THIS IS WHAT SERVICE IS ABOUT...

There are a few here who could take a leaf out of this guys book, so to speak.

Great to see you have had a good outcome 9K after a few stops and starts, and a good experience with your forum mates....thanks for your info too.

BTW: Did you add any-kind of Oil Filter Magnet or Oil Pan magnet on your rebuild?

Last I saw he was using SCSI hard drive magnets on his filters.

Yeah it really was a relief to pay for something so expensive and have the whole process just get handled right. I am ecstatic, the car is not even tuned yet and it is driving great. The break in period is a bitch.

Ash8,

I am running SCSI magnets on the filter and around the oil pan drain plug. I also use an oil extractor to change my oil so i get a lot more out than a normal oil change will.

Good on you MATE! ;)

Were you in the dog house after that maneuver?

I have dusted a few cars in that turn :D: Not that I was racing though. Hitting boost on the exit is sooo much fun. The poor bimmer did not stand a chance.

9k, dude so glad to help :) Rob is a great guy. Looking forward to seeing your car on the rollers and seeing the numbers!

I can already feel a huge difference putting around town un-tuned and under 4,000RPM. I am excited :)

Bump for a four year update :)

Engine is still running great, as of a few months ago compression was still solidly in the 8's. Rob has helped me with a few non related engine issues over the years so I thought I would bump this in case anyone is looking for a builder.

Called Rob today, I think the shop was closed for the holiday. Voicemail was full. Looks like I am going to try again on Monday morning. Thanks for the tip, 9k
