They really did a nice job on the C6 and that Z06 looks mean.

It looks nice, but I'm unimpressed with the 7.0 liter. I wish they did what was first rumored...stroke the LS2 out to a 6.3 liter. The C5 was a wonderful car and the Z06 took that grunty V8 and let it breathe, it really increased the higher rev power. I hope this is wrong and Chevy doesn't follow in Dodge's footsteps. I really hate what the Viper is, sure it looks nice but under the hood is nothing too impressive to me. To each his own.
P.S. The C6 Z06 does look really badass. :D

I'm very impressed with the C6's wheels. I very rarely like factory alloy wheel, but I love the wheels on both the base model and the Z06.

Are you insane? Who needs high rpm ability when you have earth-crushing power down-low? Besides, engines can be tuned to provide maximum power on the upper end, and vice-versa. I'm sure you've never heard of Dick Guldstrand. Anyway, he was selling Z06s that were equipped with Katech-powered 427 engines with 500 hp. Not much today, but at that time, it was pretty freakin' insane. Plus, the C5Rs used 427 V8s IIRC, and they were a forced to be reckoned with. There's nothing wrong with inreased displacement. Weight is NOT an issue. Remember that you can use it to your advantage, as long as you place it in the right areas of the car. The big problem with FR cars is weight distribution. The 2003+ Mustang Cobra is a prime example. The car is way too front-heavy. Had Ford put some extra dough in placing the engine closer to the firewall, and closer to the car's center of gravity, its 3400-lb curb weight would produce a lower yaw moment. And we all know what a low yaw moment can do for cars (RX-8). However, I'll leave a side not by saying the 2003 Cobra is a pretty neutral car despite its front-biased weight distribution.

I surely hope the Corvette engineers can put a 427 CI V8 in its Z06. It would truly be a beast, as if the normal one wasn't already.

I didn't mean to say that I didn't want more displacement. I just don't want it to turn in a car that only makes power until 4000 rpms. Now I'm sure that won't happen but eh, I loved the C5. I love the styling of the C6 and nothing wrong with 400hp. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into a Viper. We'll see I guess.
About the yaw moment, still don't know how to figure that out but understand the concept, and I agree, I don't care too much about weight just don't want Chevy to sell out the good name of the Corvette. Of course I'll still love the car even if they do :p

The LS7 has a 7000rpm redline, high CR, and high lift camshaft (.591"), so I don't think that you have to worry about it being a 5000rpm redline, weezy engine like some of the big V8s of the past. Best part is, I've heard that it's based on a reinforced version LS-series block so it shouldn't be too much heavier than the 5.7L versions of this engine. Might be the first manual Corvette to be slapped with a gas guzzler tax, though, but that all depends on how the gearing is set up for this car.

The new Z06 will be amazing, but the first thing I noticed is that you guys need to join the 90s and the new millenium and get a BBS that doesn't suck :p

Finally they are going to make it as a "coupe" edition, with the same fast back style as the "regular" Corvette, Instead of the "hardtop"/non-hatchback appearance. This is night & day.

Wow. I'm impressed. I thought it would be like the standard C5 where power would drop off. Thanks for the link and the info, I am happy now

Ya I don't like the painted headlights in yellow...but imagine in black hottness....

Honestly with the cost of this car, and its performance specs, they really should offer it in some sort of radar absorbing paint .

The headlights remind me of a mitsu vr4. Doesn't bother me a bit. Thats just one bad looking car! wowzers!

how are you unimpressed?? more displacement isn't bad, and to give you a motor which is actually stronger than it was before without making it any larger (same tight package) is kinda tricky.

turbo motors with bigger turbos is the same idea, is this somehow cheating?? the "hp/L" arguement is a ricer thing, the best measure would be something like hp/lb or hp/engine volume (in those things that germans use to determine how big a trunk is, something like that i guess).

stroking a motor is a little more difficult than "throwing in" a bigger crank and rods 'cause of all the stuff that has to clear inside of the chev small block (everything is so knit together). besides that, remembering that this car has to be made and sold for profit, and has a niche as the affordable all-american sportscar, using highly exotic materials and production processes not applicable to GM's other cars and motors is for the most part out of the question, so doing the most with what you have is a part of making a great car. this is one pretty darned neat motor (although i've yet to learn much about what makes it different from the LS6).

wow, PCK just checked your link. 2900lbs (small wheelbase and overall length too!), 7000 rpm redline (so peak power around 6.5k ish), and i was curious to find out how many cube 7.0L's are... 427????? OUT OF A SMALLBLOCK??? holy fargging schmit. that's rediculously impressive. this thing is going to make power like a muthaf*cka.

those 70cc combustion chambers are going to make for some hellaciously huge valves too, eh?

I always wonder if there would be a significant improvement had GM used 4-valve cylinder heads while still utilizing the OHV design...

On another note, what good does using sodium-filled exhaust valves other than creating an alloy?

I figured the engine would be made by Katech. I tried contacting them for an internship to which they haven't replied; that was 3 years ago.

I can't wait to see the comparo between the next 911 Turbo and Z06. GM says the Vette will run to 60 in 3.5sec--the last 911 Turbo S was able to do it in 3.6sec. so the more powerful '06 model should be quicker. Porsche always rates their performance specs conservatively.

Dre I actually read 3.8 for this Z06 to 60 and I thought the 911 Turbo was 3.9? Nobody has mentioned the 1/4 times either, they're claiming 11.3 which I don't think matches up with the 0-60 time they're getting.

This is ALOTTA car for around 70K.

That's the thing--Porsche specs are conservative. According to Porsche the last 911 Turbo S is a 4.0sec 0-60mph; however magazines have repeatedly gotten 3.6s-3.8s times. According to Autoweek the Z06 will get to 60 in 3.5seconds. Either way the Z06 is off tha chain; however I wish they would have done a little bit more to differentiate it from lesser C6s.
