Is You Other Vehicle a V-8?
 

Does anyone own a V-8 as a second or third vehicle, if so how does it rate to your RX-8? Ha I see you can't edit you thread title if you make a mistake. I guess I better learn to spell lol.

The V8 has no where near the amount of torque the RX8 has.

There are a lot of V8 cars out there. The Lexus IS F, BMW E92 M3, Audi S4 B7 all have V8's

You mean a domestic V8? Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, Vette? What are you asking?

I'll pipe in! I have an old school V8! A '66 Mercury Comet with the forebearer (predecessor?) - to the famed (?) 302 from Ford...or 5.0 to you gearheads! It's got the original 289 with a 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust putting out a spectacular - LOL - 225 hp! Though, with about twice the torque of the 8, so it's not too bad actually.

Funny thing is I actually bought my NG RX-8 2 weeks ago with the intent of having a Summer cruiser (Comet) and an 'economical' daily driver!! After I went thru my first couple tanks (low fuel light on at about 190 miles!) - I now realize my trusty old 3400 pound tank gets about the same ()*^&^$^ mileage!! 16/17 city! Go figure (I shoulda researched better.........but still love the 8!)

I use to have a 1996 mustang gt. Im in the market for a 5.0 notch, that is if I can ever fix and sell my 1990 civic si without someone trying to steal it.

I use to own a 5.6 V8 Nissan Titan King cab, that truck had balls! From a rolling start that truck would hang with my Rx-8 till about 85mph.

I have a 1990 F-150 with a 351. Want to talk about torque??? I get 9 mpg but I have an exhaust leak right now at the downpipe end of the manifold throwing a CEL and it's running rich as hell. I think I could get 9mpg while pulling a house down the street. It actually starts faster and smotther than my 8 but that truck is an engineering anomolly. It won't die despite being run hard and put away dirty for 20 years. It used to be my farm truck when I had a horse farm. And it also used to be a plow truck for 5 years. Still on the original motor 165k miles and original tranny and transfercase. Only problem is the horn is dead and it won't go into 4low. With that much power I don't need low. Not what your looking for but had to chime in.

My dad has a 92 F-350 and it just won't die either. I think he's up to 230k+ miles now, it's been his work vehicle for many years now. It got backed up into on the drivers side by a semi at a work site and he just replaced the step and banged out the door a bit haha. Loaded up with a rack in the bed and sporting 2 fully loaded tool boxes on the sides : ) I remember when I used to borrow it and let him use my Miata for the weekend, it was a nice feeling knowing no one was going to ride my ass on the highway while I was in it : )

Nope, my other car has an inline 5 and gets decent MPG.

My wife's car is a BMW 535i with a 3.5l V8. Its not very comparable to American V8s, but it is a GREAT engine. Very smooth and much more fuel efficient than my 8 haha. This engine actually isn't available in the U.S., if you know anything about Bimmer engines this is a de-stroked 4.0 V8.

Its rated around 240 hp I believe, but its in a 3700 lb beast of a car, so I think its almost even with the 8 in a line. Of course its not even close in the corners. The torque is nice though, and its definitely not slow. I imagine it kinda feels like the 8 would with torque.

07 silverado quad cab short bed, with the small 4.8l V8. Exhaust, intake and programmer upgrades. The price was right, the back seat is big, the bed is big enough and has a lockable sliding cover. Enough torque to get out of its own way and it works great for trailering the RX8 to the race track.

I was about to post about how this is probably an inline 6 and not a v-8, but then the wonder of wikipedia corrected me. I never knew they made such a small v8 back in the early 2000's, 5 internet points for you sir :beer05:

my other car has an inline six, 60 less hp and the same amount of torque.

but it weighs about 400lbs less.

still, im going to think my rx8 is a ferrari as soon as i get it back from the body shop.

i used to have a 65 mustang- the RX-8 is kinda like the modern version of that car. more so than the current mustang. Both are fun to drive, have a decent trunk and can take the whole family where ever you want to go. They are both fast enough , are fun to drive especially with the windows all down on a warm summer day with the kids in the back.

My other car is a rotary, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Our second "car" is a 2003 GMC Yukon. 5.3L V8, and the "short" 3.73 rear gears. I think it's rated at something like 285hp, and 325lb-ft. A little more hp, and about double the torque. Weighs in close to twice the Mazda though at just under 6,000lbs!!

It's roughly the same "speed" as the Mazda up to ~80-85mph or so. Then the shear size of the truck starts to become an aerodynamic problem. Ironically it gets about 15mpg on my daily commute, and the wife gets about 16mpg in the Mazda. Highway mileage is similar as well, with the Mazda getting 20-21 at a 70mph cruise, and the Yukon getting around 19-20 at the same cruising speed. Obviously VERY VERY different driving feel between the two though.

I doubt the Mazda would pull our boat very far though :D :D

I love that car but it's a totally different monster than the Rx

Old fords were pretty good it seems. My granddad has a ranger that he bought just before I was born and it's still running. It's an 86 or 87 I think and it just broke 200k miles. He just replaced the hoses and said it's still running like the day the bought it. I just found out that I'm going to be getting it whenever they decide to get rid of it so that made me kind of excited. I'm already looking forward to getting it a fresh coat of paint and any other touch up stuff to get it back to looking brand new.

I actually was wrong on the miles for my dads truck, not 230k. Odometer was just shy of 250,000 miles when I dropped it back off : )

I don't know why you are confused, it was a simple question. I asked if anyone owned a V-8 as their other vehicle(s). I didn't specify what type, because I just wanted to know if RX-8 owners drive V-8's also. It really didn't matter if it was a domestic or foreign V-8. I guess the reason I'm asking is because RX-8 owners love their cars and it's a special type of car so I wanted to know if they would also own a V-8 vehicle. I just became curious because I own four other vehicles besides the RX-8, and they are all V-8's

This is why I asked the question. I wondered how many people felt this way about this car and it's rotary engine.
