Wow - 93 RX-7

Just watched Barrett-Jackson on Speed.

They just sold a 1993 RX-7 Banzai Edition from Pettit Racing for $48,500.

What a beautiful car! It was black with a 3-rotor(!) estimated at 500hp and a top speed in excess of 200mph yet it looked pretty much like stock (sort of).

What a deal (IMO)

DARKMAZ8 03-30-2006 07:35 PM

Yeah that car is sweet. It's been around for a while now.

Yep!

snizzle 03-30-2006 08:59 PM

Wow, that car is sexy. I doubt the 7 will ever look outdated.

snizzle 03-30-2006 09:01 PM

Btw, why do they feel the need to type in all caps on the website? Ugh!!!

zaglo6204 03-30-2006 09:02 PM

daaaaaang... seen it before, didn't realize it was a 3 rotor! too young to know.

Wouldn't that be depreciation over even a stock 93 RX-7 if inflation is considered?

Yes it would be slightly less if I remember my math correct:

38,000(1+.0399)^14=$62,347

However, that is at the inflation rate as of today. We've had a few low years in the past. Plus, the car market is generally is not reflected by the CPI, or whatever index you choose to use to measure inflation.

You forgot to multiply by Pi.

I like Pi.

is it just me or in the third pic of that web site the rx-7 has our (rx-8) stock shift knob? haha looks kinda funny since they list it as a 5 sp..and you can see 6 gears + rev. on the knob. hehehe

Red Devil 03-31-2006 08:46 AM

I think Pettit announced a while back that they're not making those anymore either. But I bet if you throw enough money at them you'd get one...it's just a 3 rotor, though. Lots of shops out there can do the same thing for you.

DreRX8 03-31-2006 09:35 AM

:tear: I miss my FD

Red Devil 03-31-2006 11:23 AM

^^^^
You know what, except for the obvious lack of power (please let's not discuss the 8's lack of power again) I like my RX-8 better in every way as compared to my FC or FD. I loved all my RX cars, but I really do like the 8 the best.

The FD is more visceral, but with coilovers and FI I think the 8 can hold it's own well enough.

buzzardsluck 03-31-2006 11:32 AM

Just a 3 rotor?

Also that thing could easily get over 500hp. I was surpirsed it was that low.

It was a surprise to me also when I saw it on TV

Red Devil 03-31-2006 01:54 PM

I meant "just a 3 rotor" in terms that any reputable rotary shop throughout the country can do the same job as Pettit. Pettit doesn't have some super-secret upgrade that no one else has.

snizzle 03-31-2006 02:42 PM

are you saying they overpaid for this car?

buzzardsluck 03-31-2006 07:51 PM

I agree anyone thats competent can do the 3 rotor conversion.

As for overpaying, maybe a little (w/fees and stuff) but it is totally professionally done. I know of at least one guy thats dropped 60k+ into his 20b fd ,experimenting w/different things.

also w/that tune nothing is being pushed too much so it last awhile.
