Sad that people don't go to the track to do their racing.

Hey bang up job guys, you really showed those people who had the faster ride. Right before those people died they were like, "Wow, check out that guy's sweet ride! It sure is fast! We should totally hang out with him, just because he's so cool."

Jesus. There are people out there who actually think this behavior is cool and/or fun. Oh and if you call them on it, they always do this racing "safely." Lame.

yeah this kind of stuff is sick.

Most likely it was two punk ass kids who thought they had to be cool and do some 2Fast2Furious shit, at the same time its just as much the fault of all the stupid people that decided to stand in the middle of the road.

as i read the story the person that actually hit the big crowd of people was just someone driving along and couldn't see all the MORONS standing in the street with their backs turned.

Darwin award here people - it sucks people died but how am I supposed to feel sorry for a bunch of idiots that decide to stand in the middle of a road with their back to oncoming traffic? Am I missing something here?

street racing is illegal and stoopid.. but what happened there wasnt even the 2 racers.. the doode that ran over the people blamed it on the racers smoking tires when the spun their tires on the line.. he couldnt see the crowd and plowed them!! on that defense he has no charges and they are looking for the 2 racers.

Rhawb 02-16-2008 03:59 PM

So they're letting the guy off for plowing into a crowd of people even though he decided to keep on truckin' even when the visibility was 0? Something does not compute.

mdr 02-16-2008 04:57 PM

When I posted this story last night they were saying one of the racers slammed into the crowed.

That is why i titled it as I did.

supply and demand.... During the spring to fall season, we have the tracks up here host events on weekends to help curb street racing, and get it into a focused venue. It's amazing that not just local authorities sit reactive, but the local legislation as well. Just like alcohol was banned through history. These events need to be directed and controlled, vs slapping it as " If it's not allowed, it doesn't exist".

Ironic parody of this is how Skateboarding developed from the 80's through the 90's. I can't go 2 cities without passing 3 skate parks... this is literally similar.

Flashwing 02-18-2008 05:25 AM

Your point about skating does make sense though I'd be certain if you asked most skaters they wouldn't tell you part of the attraction is because it's illegal. Street racing's alure has everything to do with the notion that it's "dangerous" and that it's against the law. Since the movies have successfully glamorized the lifestyle of street racing, it's no surprise people perfer to do it over going to the track.

On the other hand, I know people who street race because they insist on not spending money on required safety equipment like helmets, roll cages, harnesses and fire suits. They would rather run their 10 second car on the city street where such things are not required.

Phoenix has a very active street racing crowd on the west side of the city. Despite having 3 race tracks of which 2 have friday and saturday night open drag races for $25...these groups continue to operate. These tracks are all easily accessible as one is on the north side and the other the south side. 30 minutes of driving gets you there.

Right on...this situation is horrible because it could have been easily prevented. It goes to show you that the drivers in street racing are not the only ones at risk.

CyberPitz 02-19-2008 01:02 PM

This story doesn't really make me angry at the street racers as much as the idiots who stood in the road. Plus, I got a chuckle off this video link..."Video Watch sheet-covered bodies lying along road »"

Morbid news.
