The RX8 finished at the bottom of this reliability list for sports car (this sports car reliability list doesn't list the MX5, though it is mentioned in the article. Go figure !)

Um the Chrysler Crossfire is high on the list of reliable sports cars. It was not with my n=4 friends that have them. Junque is a better Frenchesque term for the ChrFire.

...after driving a ChrFire off and on for some time...I was sold on the S2 RX-8.

Sports Cars? :lol: And most of the cars on that list are not sports cars and are junk. Aside from the engines, everything else on my RX-8 has been pretty reliable over the last almost 160,000 miles.

RX-8: 0 reliability. Excellent article! We must all be idiots, right? That's an extremely low blow.

I have a feeling that people confuse reliability with longevity. Rotaries may not last as long as a piston engine, but when properly maintained(which you need to do for most sports cars anyway; you can't treat them like a Civic), it's not unreliable. You can expect them to start up every day just fine.

For me, I looked into an RX-8 and ultimately bought one because of the uniqueness with a good dose of practicality. Every time I see a fellow RX-8, I give them a thumbs up.

Sure, there are cars that are faster and nicer, but some of them are just everywhere nowadays, like the new Mustangs. Those don't have any character. I call them rich people's Civics. And most of them are the econobox-sounding Ecoboosts anyway because I4s sound so sexy. Ha.

I agree with you folks. All my rotary cars, sports car and rotary sedans have been very reliable. That list is so incomplete, I don't know how they came up with it.

Well RX-8's are not reliable by any normal standard. And faster is faster, rotary owners just love to make excuses. Yes I love my RX-8 and they handle great, but plenty of cars are faster and handle well and there is a reason the rotary is dead. Driving experience is important but there are some amazing cars out there today. And while the Mustangs and Camaro's are everywhere, you can't deny the ROI.

I am putting everything I have into rebuilding my engine. (First rebuild for it). I don't imagine dumping 5000$ into any other car. The rx8 just talks to me. It makes me feel happy and if you could see my face every time I hop in and start it or hit that rev limit omg. Orgasmic. It so unique you can drive around my city for weeks before you see another one. It's not just a car it's a lifestyle. Long live the wankle

RX-8 has good driving experience and great practicality. The latter is what really captured me, and not something a lot of other sports cars offer. I can fit people in the back with absolutely no complaints.

As for Camaro and Mustang, yes, they are hot, and I get why they are popular. I would love to have a 392 Challenger 6MT in the (distant) future. I love V8 muscles.

My grudge is mostly directed at Ecoboost Mustangs. While they have good performance, they pretty much go against what muscles/ponies stand for: big displacement and a "Fuck you, Prius" attitude. Now that Civics come with turbos at higher trims, saying that your Mustang engine is just a bigger Civic engine is quite hilarious and pathetic.

Another thing is, most Ecoboosts (with slushboxes, no less)are driven by people who have no ideas how a car works, and that's a big reason why I despise them. A GT or up Mustang with 123456R? Totally different story and those are the ones I pay attention to. Same with Camaro SS, hot stuff.

So your Mazda 3 needed a new engine too?

I wouldn't say the RX-8 is that much more practical. I do like the rear doors, but it's not the most ideal city car or road trip car.

Pony cars and Muscle cars have always come in base trim levels with weak engines, lackluster suspensions, shitty interiors, etc.

The Ecoboost Mustang and 2.0 Turbo Camaro are least performers in terms of engines and you can get them with almost every performance option you can get on the higher trim levels. And the TT Ecboost v6 in the Mustang will be a game changer I think. But saying someone who owns a turbo 4 version of the car doesn't know the car is just silly. Just as silly as saying everyone who drives rotary has a clue.

I said my rotary cars overall have been as reliable as my piston cars, many of which were other brands besides Mazda. No I never replaced an engine in my 2008 Mazdaspeed3 GT which I owned for three years, but Yes I have replaced engines in other piston cars I have owned over the decades. But none of my other six rotary cars had an engine replaced, ever, street or track car. Only replaced the RX8 engine, which is my seventh rotary car. My rotary cars overall have given very reliable service in the past 45 years of owning multiple brands of cars.

he has owned every rotary car ever built. has a special deal with mazda, when a new rotary is built they give it to him for a week before they hook up the odometer then they sell it as new. he has literally owned EVERY rotary car built including yours. how else do you rack up over a billion rotary miles

One RX3, two RX4s (coupe and sedan), all three generations of RX7, one RX8. Street and Race modified. Over one million rotary miles and counting, on street and track. Get it right folks if you are going to post about it. LOL
