Actually because its also narrower and shorter in both wheelbase and length, which makes a lot of difference getting through most autox course, which is why the Miata can also be faster than the RX-8

Forgot to add, if we have the "sport" package with cloth seat and no moonroof, it automatically take about 200 lbs off the car ... that's a big difference.

Now it makes me wanna treat my car in ...

Mazda had wrong gearing. In Mazdaspeed version they have 4.777, it was suggested by Motoharu Kurosawa , he said the car has no torque and you're using 4.3 as final gear ??? use at least 4.7.

with 4.777 at least it can pick up a little bit faster, make it looks "better" against other cars like S2K.

Weight is another problem with our 8, even just 2-300 lbs that's a BIG difference.

My opinion is based on the videos not personal experience so it should be taken as a "speck" of salt. Regardless, there are a couple of other BMI videos showing the A-spec 8 with the 4.777 gearing still doesn't do much at all against other cars.

WHY THE HELL IS NO ONE INTERESTED in how the FX35 run?! lol...
it was the highlight of the day :D Everyone was staring at us when we were on the course lol.

I own both. For one, the s2000 has a much more usable power band for autox. It has a surprisingly amount of power from 7 to 9,000 rpm compared to the RX-8 (at least my impression from a stock to stock comparison). And, as mentioned before, it's lighter, shorter and smaller.

Also, from what I recall, the S2000's stock suspension is significantly more punishing (stiffer setup) for street use than the RX-8.

That particular course would be more suited for cars like the miata and s2000, if you consider the size of the cars, thats no surprise.

Surprising, because I have compared my Series I with my friend's AP1 (2001) S2000 (with an aftermarket intake and InVidia catback) quite a few times. Yes we have traded cars and 'compared' them 'side-by-side'. 2nd gear is practically even, which surprised both of us. What surprised us even more was the RX8 getting a quarter car jump if the S2000 didn't hit VTEC yet. After 3rd, it does start to walk though, but gearing, HP, aero, and weight comes into play especially at those speeds of course.

I don't think power comes into play at Autocross speeds (below 3rd gear). The reason I think the S2000 is faster in Autocross is simply because of the known factors such as a 200-300 pound weight advantage, superior stock handling, small dimension (length, width, height, AND wheelbase, though track is similar).

Yeah, come to think about it.. its wheelbase, size and weight might've mattered... well i hope i'm gonna try one some time soon.

Time Slips for the day for those who are interested

Right. There would be occasions at the local autox where the Honda drivers would complain that the course is set up in such a way that they can't make any use of VTEC.
