White is Right! My new 2014 Mazda6

Hi guys, I just purchased my 2014 Mazda 6 Snowflake White Pearl Touring with Tech Package. This is my second Mazda. I also have an 2006 Mazda RX-8 Whitewater/Snowflake White Pearl. As you can see, I LOVE white cars.

Initial impressions are very good. It's not a sporty car, but it's very comfortable and has a ton of amenities that make driving easy and enjoyable.

Since I have the 8 still, I opted for the Touring trim which comes only with the Skyactive-AT. (Only Sport trim has MT). I would recommend getting either the Touring or Grand Touring as the Sport models are VERY stripped down. Also make sure you get the technology package which comes with GPS navi, blind spot monitoring, Bose system, advanced keyless entry, smart city brake system, etc. All which make driving so easy.

For those who care about MPGs: EPA estimates are 38/26 hwy/city. I've averaged 32 MPG combined with about 60/40 hwy/city driving.

I don't have any real plans for the 6 as of yet, but I know I want wheels, drop, tint, etc.. basic stuff as it's my daily driver/AT. But I thought I'd share a picture or two with you guys.

My little but growing White Mazda Family =]

Lastly, I was wondering if I could get some input.
I can't figure out which wheels to get.
Should I do TE's on the 6? Dunno if that'll look right haha.
Maybe BBS LMs? Work VSXX?
Help me out guys!

Looks great! Any reason why you didn't go for the GT instead?

The 6 now is really way different when it started in 04. Anyway, congrats on the purchase.

GT was priced at about 4k more than the Touring+tech. Also, I needed it ASAP with 100-mile round-trip commutes daily and availability is very limited at the moment. The local stealerships only had Touring trims in White.

I do somewhat regret not getting the GT since the headlights look so much better haha and it comes with more overall luxurious amenities, but I'm very satisfied with the purchase. It really is a great car.

Also, I was hoping the Skyactiv-D diesel would be out but that's gonna be towards the end of the year =[ and I couldn't wait that long.

How is the leatherette in the Touring? If I recall correctly, this is the first time Mazda produced full leatherette in their cars. Got me curious how they feel in comparison to the big German threes that have been doing it for years.

MattMPS 02-24-2013 11:55 AM

the leather quality is very high...but the rear of front seats is still in synthetic leather for easier cleaning....a smart choice in mazda6 since the first model...

SayNoToPistons 02-24-2013 06:04 PM

I am talking about the Touring package in the states where the entire seating surface is leatherette (synthetic leather). Only in the Grand Touring does it get leather seating surfaces. The far side of the seat bolsters and back are still leatherette on new Mazda's including the CX-5 and Mazda6, which uses nearly identical front seats.

From experience, I have found that the poor quality of synthetic leather in Japanese cars to wear much quicker than their leather counter parts. In my Infiniti that I had, the leatherette started cracking before the leather. The RX-8 is also showing obvious signs of quicker leatherette wear on the bolsters than the leather parts. This is with frequent (gentle) cleaning and 303 protectant (one of the best) on the surfaces.

Germans claim their leatherettes are more durable than genuine leather (in addition to obvious low maintenance). I cannot comment too much on long term durability, but I have seen their leatherettes in my friend's VW's and BMW's, and they do hold up very well.

Congrats on the new 6! I'm actually looking to get one for my family as well.

The initial quality is pretty decent. I'm not used to having leather at all so I don't think I'll be a good judge of the leather quality and I can't really say how durable it is, but I guess time will tell.. :fingersx:
