When an rx-8 owner wants a new car...
What do I do? I have a winning blue '04 and I love the car. I usually keep a car about 4 years before getting another one and I've had this one for about 3 1/2 years now. But in thinking about a new car to get, what is there? I want a sporty car like the rx-8 and around the same price range. I do like the z, but I just can't see myself getting one, but besides the 8 and the z, there's nothing else out there! And I'm not going to buy another 8 since is pretty much has not changed at all since '04. Whats the word on that new Supra thats supposed to be coming out? And I know about the Kabura/rx-7/new rotary engine crap thats going on, but geez, 2010? Thats a long way off. I don't want to wait that long, but I might have to. I've never been in this situation before. When it comes time to think about a new car, there's always something I'd have my eye on thats already out, but this time, the only thing I have my eyes on is still three long years away.:banghead:

If you can wait till next spring how about a BMW 135? There really isn't much out there with the same priorities as the RX8, so no competition if you want something like it.
|
there's alot out there, i assume you want to stay with an import. so, what about a s2000, or evo ix.
|
?? I'm actually going to get something differant soon here. it's either going to be a mk-iv supra tt, evo iv, or a m3. who knows, but like i said there's alot out there.

Counting down the days....
Stuck with my 8 till then http://www.toyota.com/images/vehicle...hs/photo_1.jpg |
S2000, Elise, or Evo. Otherwise you're banned.
|
s2k would be nice.
|
The s2000 shouldn't be an option, he might as well keep the 8, unless he's dying for a convertible with slightly more acceleration.
An Elise is out of the price range, unless he has a very broad price range. Turbo or supercharge? If not, Evo. |
a used m3 or a used vette might be in the price range. if you can afford them brand new, then it'd be better. just what i would do.
|
^that too. Good thinkin

The replacement(though I'll be keeping the 8) for my 8 will be a 911 or Cayman.
|
I'd pick up a mint 993 Carrera personally.
|
The problem is that you own the best car in the price range. The only car I would want to upgrade to as a daily driver is an M3.
If you dont want to buck up keep the 8 and save your cash. |
S2000 gets my vote, too.
Depends on whatcha want though. the new supra is supposed to be $60k. What price range are ya looking for? |
s2k, all the way.
|
orrrrr if you are convinced to wait, get the new NSX. Yeah it'll be a pretty penny but you have all that time to save up. And maybe F/I your 8 during the time to spice it up.

Ahh, yes, that Toyota FT-HS concept is freakin' hot. That was another one I had my eye on, but I'll bet that is at least 5 years away. I suppose I should have mentioned I'm not a fan of the S2000, so I eliminated that one. And that BMW 135 is ugly as hell. I might as well just save up and wait for the Kabura or RX-7 or a revamped 8.

sports car? 2 seats? 4? price range? |
I'm mainly looking for something not more than $35,000. I usually like stuff that wow's you in the looks department...I'm not really concerned about 2 seats or 4. Around here, stuff like my 8 and the Z stick out like sore thumbs because there are hardly any around. So I like the 8 and the Z, that Toyota concept, the new Supra concept or whatever that is called, and the new Kabura/rx-7. Problem is 3 out of the 5 aren't out yet.
And I will only stick to imports. I already looked at the new Eclipse and thought that was a POS, drove the MazdaSpeed 3. Liked the power but not into the wagon. Don't like the rally cars looks-wise (Sti, EVO). I did kinda like the VW GTI. Drives really nice, not that powerful but pretty peppy. But the turnoff is the bland vw color choices. I guess I'll end up keeping my 8 until one of the above comes out, but deep down I'm just really waiting for a revamped 8 or whatever car that new rotary goes into. |
If you like the GTI check out the R32... same looks with a bitchin' engine and AWD.

I went with the S2K. The 2007's can be had for about $29,500 if you take one on the dealer's lot.

An 06 330i wouldn't be bad. This only had a one year model run as the 335 turbo replaced it.
But the 330 has a great 255hp inline 6, very similar in performance to the 8, as well as utility. The sport package ones are quite nice imho. I test drove one last summer, and the driving feel was top notch. Plus, they look still very new, and are in your price range. |
