What's the most **** thing you've done for your car?

Ok, I admit it—I'm pretty bad. On my first Miata, I replaced the entire passenger door panel when someone made a tiny 3/8" tear in it with their high-heeled shoe. I had my GTI's rear bumper repaired and repainted for a 3/4" gouge from another car. I replaced two Racing Hart wheels for barely noticeable "you're-replacing-it-because-of-THAT!?" curb rash. (And no, I'm not rich—I just don't have any kids. )

Anyone else?

Umm... I'm currently having the dealership replace the clear panels that cover up the tachometer and guages. There were a few hairline scratches on them...

Does spending 6 hours applying zaino only to put the car cover on and park it in the garage count??

When I got my car, there was a slight hairline scratch that turned onto a HUGE scratch when sun hit it on my radios screen...I had them replace it.

I can never be that ****, but I understand those who are. I fight it myself, but I keep telling myself that cars get old, and it will take the enjoyment out of it if you constantly try and keep a car brand new. My best therapy is after 2 years of ownership. I now don't care much what happens cosmetically to my sti, minus noticable dents, ect ect. I'm also less afraid to park it in certain places now. For me, time heals my analness, but getting by in the beginning is a tough task, as I do drive myself insane sometimes when I see one small imperfection. Like all things though, you get over it and move on. The only way to avoid wear is to not drive the car. To that I say NO THANKS!!

I agree with you viking....I love my rx-8...and currently when I goto wal-mart I park at the furthest corner of the parking lot...at the highest point...this way nobody ever parks next to me...and unless the winds strong carts wont blow UP the hill and hit me. I also make sure to keep a ways away from people in front of me when driving...I even get **** when someone touches my car....

I am still absolutely no-food, no-drinks even after 9 months (I bought brand new). My wife only occassionally rides in the car - last time she commented the car still has new-car-smell.

Slightly **** - I bought TPMS for my winter rims.

Ditto!!

i do the same thing

Once when there was bird poo on the car, and it was too cold to use the water from the garden hose... i used bottled water instead.

I agree with you... I used to worry about things like that but I could never get to the point were I kept a car for show. Just driving the hell out of it gets rid of any worries. I like my car clean and non-junky but I have to draw the line somewhere.

During the winter when it was too cold for touchless carwash (all closed below freezing), i washed my car in the garage with warm water from inside the house. Had to park it head in first, wash the back, then drive it out and back into the garage and wash the front.
