SayNoToPistons 07-11-2008 07:04 AM

^ I thought those were G35/37/350z drivers. You know, the teenage kids driving those brand new G's/Z's brought by their parents?

Seems like they'd be great cars for someone younger. The Tc is no where near as obnoxious as most of the Scions and it's a decent enough driver.

As mentioned Scion drivers are kinda weird so you might be introducing him to a pretty random cult.

I have driven one and have a couple of friends with TC's and they are pretty good cars. They only have one problem with the moonroof that you should make sure the recall has been taken care of because if not the wind defelctor might fly off.

I actually don't like the way the roof opens up. I just goes both way . I now it does not sound right , but you guys know what I mean ..............

do not care for them. its for personal reasons, nothing against the car. just ppl who own them think they are the shxt. kinda like ppl who own SI civics.

It would be a good car for your son. Alot of younger drivers have them, they have a good sound system, quick enough for most people, and have some cool features.

I used to own a Tc before I bought my RX-8.

Overall, it was definitely a good car. Never had a reliability problem with it (of course, since I bought it new and only owned it for three years and put less than 40,000 miles on it, that may not be saying much).

The Tc (kind of like the RX-8) makes great use of its interior space. Even though it's a coupe, I found it very easy to get four people in it (assuming that the ones in the back were medium-sized). Plus, if you fold down the rear seat, you have a HUGE amount of room for hauling stuff around.

As others have mentioned, the stereo is quite good. I had the upgraded version with the 10" sub in the trunk and I think it may have sounded better than the Bose system in my RX8 (it certainly had more bass). The sub is quite nice, actually, since it mounts off to the side and barely takes up any space.

The engine is pretty fun. Plenty of power to get you into trouble, but obviously not as smooth or high-revving as the RX-8.

The transmission (I had the five-speed) was kind of weird. It was probably the lightest feeling shifter I've ever tried. It almost didn't feel like it was connected to any mechanical bits. I kind of liked it, though. I would have liked to have a sixth gear for highway cruising, however.

Biggest disappointment with the Tc was with the handling/traction. Maybe the tires were to blame, but I could spin the tires without hardly trying, and it's not like the car had 200+ horsepower. It was especially bad in the rain--I had to really be careful when accelerating away from a light or it was just spin city.

Another issue was the sun roof. During the winter that thing would creak like mad, especially if there was any ice/frost on it.

I've heard that a lot of people have paint issues with the Tc, but I didn't experience any. Again, though, I didn't put that many miles on it (plus I garaged it over night).

Oh, and I had the side-impact airbags on mine. Apparently that was a rare option.

All in all, I liked it a lot. When I was shopping for it, I also test drove the Civic Si that was out at the time and thought that Tc was way better.

I would have loved to have had a car that good for my first car.

Personally, I found the back seat very cramped, and I'm only 5'4". If I sat naturally, my head would hit the back edge of the ceiling and I was uncomfortably close to the back glass. My friend who was with me, and about 5'11" had to sit with his head tilted forward. I don't know, they're nice cars, but that aspect really bothered me.

Anything Toyota is gonna be reliable but meh...I'm done with wrong wheel drive. It's RWD or AWD for me forever. How old is your son and what is his price range? I just bought a car after 6mo of research so maybe I can offer some ideas.
