Used car values
A friend just lost her car to a pothole. Insurance declared it totaled, and she's got collsion coverage.
An agent told her to look up its value at NADA's web site, so she'd go into the negotiations prepared. I've suggested that she also look at kbb.com. Are there other sites that she can check for favorable value? I'm also digging out Doc Beech's great post on how to maximize a settlement. Thanks Ken |

I didn't see the pothole or the damage to the car. It was big enough for the whole tire to drop into, and apparently did enough structural damage to total the car. It was a '99 Audi, so there's a combination of old car and expensive parts.
This was in Arlington, VA, which has had some actual sinkholes this season, along with a bumper crop of potholes. Arlington tends to spend its money enacting taxes on commuters and buying radar/laser guns for their police, rather than building durable roads. Ken |
i'd look at some for sale ads too, and maybe pick 2-3 that are for the same car. i've never had to USE this info, but if i did it gives a "real world" picture of selling price.
