I got thinking about TVR again. I love these cars, I have ridden in a couple that my grampa owns. Their performance is incredible, although they are a little rough around the edges. But, thats why I love them, very pure sports cars. I know there are better performing cars, better looking cars, but I just love them.

Anyone else a fan??

I really have to stop dreaming about cars.

some random images I have compiled.

Trevor Wilkinson was a genius, and a visionary. TVR designs and builds their own engines in-house. I believe each car is hand-built as well. I love the TVR Tamora, which I would consider a Miata on steroids. I would put it third behind the Vauxhall VX220/Opel Speedster (tie!), and the first place Series I Elise (the Series II is too soft). Damn, shigginsrx8, you sure have a bitchin' taste in cars :).

AbusiveWombat 08-05-2004 09:51 AM

Very cool cars. I got a ride in one when I was in England and it was sweeeeet! Like Shelley said: a Miata on steriods. Too bad they aren't sold here anymore.

Those were all over the town I was stationed in in England..., drove my rusted Ford POS beater past the dealership every day. Love those cars. Only "driven" them on GT3, wish I could have for real.

these cars look like they are from the future, got a good sound to them too, have yet to get behind trhe wheel but id be excited for a try.

Unfortunately, I am worried that TVR is doomed. Peter Wheeler has owned the company for the past couple of decades, and is the inspiration and soul behind ALL of the memorable TVRs (ie last 20 years). Did you guys see the news this week? from EVO's web site - TVR has been sold to some 24 year old Russian rich kid using daddy's money. Wheeler will remain on the TVR board for some period. :(

Regards,
Gordon

One of my favorite dream cars has been the TVR Tuscan S. If they sold it here, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. The only car I want more, would be the Ford GT. They were hoping that the movie Swordfish would push the interest in making a U.S. street legal cars, but oh well...

Labop 08-05-2004 12:09 PM

If I ever go back to the UK, and there's a good chance since my wife is from there, I'm buying one. Probably the Tuscan. She's already said that it would be "OK" with her. MUAHAHA

I figure my chances are good, she let me have the 8 ;)

Oh man I love the TVR too. I think it has a straight 6 right?

Ike 08-08-2004 06:36 AM

They are very cool cars and I love them, but from what I've heard they are pieces of crap and their engines make the FD's engine look like a marvel of reliability.

Supposedly the newer ones are much, much better!

That second on is an Invincia, (I believe thats how you spell it) its British as well.

As for TVR I love the newer models...fast and as exotic looking as they come inside and out.

Feras 09-01-2004 01:12 PM

to all the comparisons out there, you cant make a sports coupe look all that different...it all started with the 911 about 30 years ago and that shape stuck as the prototypical shape of all sports coupes, almost every car that has the coupe shape shares basic lines with the classic, RX8 included.

Yep - 2nd pic is an invicta s1. quite a beast by itself.

The TVR's are nice cars, and even recently started sorting out the aerodynamics and improving handling some too.

The straight 6 has been an absolute disaster though , with dodgy 3rd party parts pretty much every 6 made in the first 4 years either has been rebuilt or will need to be. I hear the newer engines are better but I'm not convinced.

I love the TuscanS, super car, but if I was handing over cash it'd be for one of the older v8 cars (cerb or grif).

Pity about the i6's, its a company which (had) its heard in the right place, didnt produce the speed 12 because it was to nutz lol. In bad need of some quality controll though.
