Turbo Renesis in a Miata

Sorry if this is a repost (didn't see any threads about it in a quick search though); I figured you guys would like to check out a crazy modified NA Miata with a turbo RX mill of some sort, purported to be a Renesis.

Do you guys deal with AutoKonexion too, or are they just Miata people? Anyway, here are some more sweet pictures. I guess SEMA is good for something after all!

You forgot to ask:
where are the wings? :D

That thing MUST fly!

bose 11-04-2009 04:22 PM

That is the sickest Miata I have ever laid eyes on.

dozer 11-04-2009 04:38 PM

thats the shit im talkin about...

EdwardsB 11-04-2009 04:44 PM

I'm not the biggest fan of miata's styling (not aggressive enough), but that this looks awesome!

Even Better!!!

If you do much of the work yourself and live without a few luxuries, total cost to build one into a little Japanese Cobra could be well under $10,000 (including the car with hardtop).

I know it's incredibly petty and entirely not the point of this car, but the interior looks like shit.

I like everything else about it.

c0ldf1ame 11-04-2009 07:40 PM

that car was at a JRX rotary for the last couple of monthes, for some reason i thought it was a 13b swap. Shop owner told me its prepped for time attack

i met the owner of the car mike also, really cool guy, and he owns a shop that makes bodykits, the wide body and hardtop are of his own design. He also asked me if there are any interest in wider fenders for the rx8

No pictures of the engine bay :(

Either way that top is sick, looks like a mini Porsche!

mscamp02 11-04-2009 08:00 PM

good looking car but no pics of the renny

dabax2324 11-04-2009 08:21 PM

that top actually makes the mx-5 look like a guys car

2tone 11-04-2009 08:50 PM

that IS a wicked top!! it'd be better all one finish, imo, but i love the lines.

Easy_E1 11-04-2009 09:27 PM

Nice setup. Like the look. But that's not a Renesis with the front cover and EI distributor.
Over all it must be a fun ride.

rotarygod 11-04-2009 10:36 PM

From what little I can see of the engine, everything points to it being a Turbo II block from a 2nd gen RX-7. I don't even think its an FD engine.

shazy 11-04-2009 11:37 PM

Wow that really looks awesome!
Wouldn't mind driving it.

mike[piston eater] 11-04-2009 11:47 PM

looks beastly

RyansRx8 11-04-2009 11:57 PM

dopeage

DailyDriver2k5 11-05-2009 06:27 AM

Thats a wicked little Miata, it looks great with that top, defenitely makes it look like another car.

shazy 11-05-2009 09:54 AM

IT's GODLIKE.

Ross_Dawg 11-05-2009 11:59 AM

Sexy sexy... If I could fit in a miata Id totally get one myself

EdwardsB 11-05-2009 12:50 PM

I wish there was a picture taken directly from the side, want to see exactly how the roofline looks.

Here is a cost saving way for the next RX. Keep the miata the same (little more agressive look) and make the next RX a miata coupe. Save money on body panels, lights, windows, suspension components, etc., it would keep the RX light, and they would still appeal to different people (coupe/rotary and convert).

yeah but that makes too much sense. They would much rather keep making the miata with a booooooring ass 4 banger that doesn't even rev high or anything special to maintain the miata's famous gutless prestige. They will then proceed to spend a lot of money developing a new car that weighs a lot more for the 16x, and probly will have a stupid flappy paddle transmission.

Sorry, I know they're long, but these guys are pushing out huge amounts of power from the stock Miata engines (all you need is a crazy turbo kit, right?). The first link also includes a heroic engine swap... done a grand total of 11 hours before he took it to a track day at Infineon to break it in.

Besides, the cars weigh nothing; my 1999 NB is 2299 lbs, and the NAs were significantly lighter than that. Strip it down a little and you're easily below 2000. :D Power to weight what?

CaliMiataChick 11-07-2009 12:18 AM

Well, looks like the Renesis hypothesis was busted. Here are some of the engine bay shots for you guys :)
