You know, I love my RX8 and it's been nothing but good to me and I'm glad I got her back in December 2004 (05 base 6spd). She has a narrow opening truck but while deceptive it can hold a bunch of stuff like my son's mini stroller AND the weeks worth of groceries. Meanwhile, it’s comfortable and my son (only 1) loves it back there…you should hear him sing/talk all the way to grandma’s who takes care of him during the day. So…I’m still all smiles and in stupid love with my 8.

YET…I also am having a love affair with the Audi A4 (past generation and current), the next Camaro, and now the G8 (you can watch me become a fan boy of the G8 in the other thread, lol).

Meanwhile, I also really like the GTO, G35, and still considering a look at the next Evo.

So, this automotive whoredom is a common ailment that us car guys/gals have. We say…

“Now this is all I ever wanted, this will be my last car…I’ll keep it forever”

…then, BAM there comes a new car looking all sexy and hot, winking at ya like only you and the car are the only ones in the world (we are still talking about cars right…???, LOL) and then we go run the numbers to see how and what we need to do to get our hands on one.

LOL, it’s a drug…chasing “WANT” is a dangerous game, and foolish, but most of us after looking at the numbers come back down from cloud 9. OR…our wives slap us into reality.

SO, trust me…us, we GET this problem of yours.

^ agreed, wives/fiance/girlfriends are the ones who give you that "you and your freakin cars" look haha

also where have you been wannahave??

Have you ever driven a kit car before? Even I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment. Plus, replica kit cars are lame not matter how they perform.

I've ridden in a FFR Cobra before. It's a kit car, in the fact that you must source a few parts to complete it. But done right it's no more a kit car than an Ariel Atom. The body fabrication was perfect. The ride was superb. And it went like stink. It's no Fiero Ferrari.

A real Cobra is nearly unattainable, even for the richest of the rich. A replica, in this case is perfectly ok, in my opinion. No more lame than debadging (and dewinging), say, an STi.

It's like when it comes to women... the grass is always seemingly greener on the other side...

Even after the day you're dating someone so stunningly beautiful and has an awesome personality.. there are always other temptations out there, and you will ALWAYS ask youself the question.. "can I do better?"

The sky's the limit on that one, and you'd be foolish to give up something good in "hopes" of getting something else better.

The wise thing to do is stick with what you have.. cherish it, make the best of it, and don't let temptation get the better half of you...

Cheers,
Andrew

I do the same thing...especially with power. When I got my 8, I was most concerned with having a car that looks cool. The 8 certainly does look cool, and I love it for a lot of reasons.

However, I find myself wanting to go faster. Another problem is that my 8 is an AT. Ouch. I look at the money I'd have to spend just to get to the power of an STI or EVO, and think about how I could get 400rwhp from something like an IS300 with the same money.

Funny enough, I don't have this problem. I'm about as big of a car nut as they come (I even know the between generation changes from year to year of a lot of cars, some mundane like the Civic), but while I appreciate cars for what they are, I don't lust after Corvettes or Aston Martins or Porsches. I see a Ferrari going down the street and I think "cool," if it's stopped, I'll even ogle it and check out the details, but for some reason I never have a desire to own it.

Right now, the car I want most is a Honda Fit or Subaru Impreza wagon to complement the RX-8...

That's spot on re. age, but life events are even bigger. It's true that as you get older you care less for what others think, though every 22 yr. old today would say they don't care, which is the biggest load ever. But having kids completely changes one's perspective on what's important i.e. without sounding like Clark Griswald...I get more satisfaction out of an amazing family vacation instead of kitting out my car. Of course there is room for both, but perspective is everything.

Allow me to attempt to psychoanalyze this condition…I think this has more to do with flaws in the human condition, rather than being “enthusiasts”. It is an insatiability that is more rampant in strong capitalist societies or cultures more absorbed by consumerism…never being happy with what you have. Our youth today especially suffers from this condition. At least 5 of the deadly sins – pride, envy, gluttony, lust, greed – are represented in this condition. Even those who seemingly have everything, are often still not satisfied.

First, understand what REALLY drives or motivates you, then you’ll better understand this condition.

..that’ll be $525.

Such is man’s condition, AMEN to that…

Proverbs 27:20

20 ….Nor are the eyes of man ever satisfied.
Living by “want” is like chasing the wind, your always running after it but NEVER reaching the satisfaction of garbing a hold of it. This is a lesson we all have to learn, but sadly some never do and no matter what they posses they are never satisfied and miss out on the big picture…the reality of this life.

Money or THINGS, will never = joy!

^ agreed, wives/fiance/girlfriends are the ones who give you that "you and your freakin cars" look haha
LOL, mine gives me…you and your freaken tech toys, also…lol.

also where have you been wannahave??
I’m a mod at a Christian forum so been busy there, busy being a new dad (doing my best to get better at it daily), I came to the realization that the mods for this car are too expensive so most likely I’ll never really mod it extensively so watching others play with their 8’s is a bit sad for me…lol.

I’m just trying not to drift too much from this place so I don’t get further behind than I already have gotten. Gosh, I don’t know what’s going on…is there a SC now? Any new Turbo’s or tricks? How much RWHP are people getting now a days with the 8? Are none FI mod’s coming around and giving the 8 some significant HP? Has my dream of a 3-rotor Renesis come true (doubt it)? I’m lost now…

The sky's the limit on that one, and you'd be foolish to give up something good in "hopes" of getting something else better.

The wise thing to do is stick with what you have.. cherish it, make the best of it, and don't let temptation get the better half of you...
I understand, but you have to also ask yourself….can THEY do better? Friend, I understand our male pitiful mind (lol) but you explained it well. It’s chasing the wind…good stuff.

This thread is becoming a support group....LOL!

I've never questioned that actually.. "can THEY do better?"

That is a good question now that you've raised it, and I frankly don't know how to approach that. Can you please elaborate some more so I can get some good guidance? I've never seen relationships from that angle before.

Amen. Very well said.

Believe me, I suffer from this affliction BAD....and it makes me ashamed at times.

I have bought 8 new cars over the past 3 years, keeping one the longest for a grand total of 7 freakin' months. Every time I said to myself "I am happy with this one, and I shall keep it for good."

Yeah right...

Better to lust for other cars than other women. At least that's what I tell my wife when she gives me a bad time about the thought of a new Z06 or GT-R.

That being said, and I know this sounds uber-fanboy-ish, but I've yet to find a car that upstages my Evo in the driver feedback category. To be fair though I've yet to test drive a Lotus or Porsche. Even then those cars are out of my price range and/or totally impractical. No fellas, my car lust goes above and beyond what I could ever own. I want stupid fast. The kind of fast only a high six-figure exotic can deliver. Seeing as though that will never happen I'm left to fantasize about making friends that have those kind of cars. That's much more likely.

I wouldn't be like this if I never met the group of friends I have now. Before I was the guy that enjoyed looking at cars but was fine with an A-B vehicle. Now, I am just all messed up.

LOL....look away....look away, don't listen to us...RUN MAN RUN!!!!! LOL

A car, in reality is JUST a A-B tool but of course some cars make the A-B experience MUCH MO FUN!

Just, don't put yourself in a financial strain because of this problem we all have and if you never had it before then stay that way.

Eventually you'll find out, that it is more satisfying to do than to have.

Stand up

Hi everybody! My name is Hornet and I'm a Auto-holic!

I go through a lot of the wanting other cars but the thing about it is I don't want those other cars instead of my current car...I want those cars along with my current car and others. I want a Veyron, and a Mclarren F1 and, Porsche Carrera GT....you get the point! Either way I can only afford 1 car maybe 2 at the most with one being used or very inexpensive!
