Toyota Prius' - are they always thrashed?

Are most Toyota Prius' banged up, scratched up, and dented? From driving around the SF Bay Area where there are tons Prius', a friend and I have noticed they consistently have more damage than other newish cars of the same vintage.

My friend and I decided: 1) Most Prius' drivers are not very good drivers & often trying to eke out every MPG, 2) See their Prius' more as transportation appliances only. As a result, the little Prius' suffer the consequences and look like crap very soon. It is an amazing thing when we see a Prius with little or no body damage.

Anyone else notice the same thing?

I never really noticed that ,I wouldn't say all Prius drivers are bad. But a lot wome do own them ... I do agree with your 2nd point.

alfy28 05-20-2008 11:49 AM

i read there is a Anti Prius group here in houston just banging up every single prius they see.

oh wait that was just my imagination

around me, all the prius drivers think they're race cars, cutting people off and trying to accelerate quickly. At that point they should have bought another vehicle.

Jasonawojo 05-20-2008 12:21 PM

Oh, I'm waiting to see a "riced out" Prius. I've seen then on big cheesy chrome rims, haven't seen the tin can exhaust yet though! :lol2:

We have seen the Prius' trying to be race cars down the freeway. The car isn't the fastest thing and the mileage must drop considerably going all out--they might as well drive something else. Agree on that point.

most prius owners cant do basic math, you expect em to park?

the prius is 24,000 (base model after taxes) and gets 45mpg freeway. corolla is 16,500 (base model after taxes), and gets 35mpg freeway.

the prius get better mileage, but to break even on the $7500 difference in purchase price you need to drive the prius for 300,000miles.

who's gonna do that?

jeffe19007 05-20-2008 02:57 PM

I agree with the observation that all the ones I see are in rough shape.

Most of the 'green folks' I know drive Subarus. So I don't know who buys Prius's, except they don't know how to take care of a car.

And come on, the styling sucks! You would think they could take that shape and make it look good.

I agree. I don't understand the Prius at all. Do the owners who think they are saving the environment know how much oil was consumed to make the car, and bring it here, and the resources used? I just can't be a believer in Hybrids unless they are prices only slightly above normal cars.

My friend bought one, and I didnt' say anything, but I was thinking. Why? Granted he's a computer nerd who loves all the cool gadgets the car has, but when he mentions the money he saves on gas, I quickly point out that he actually spends more. I have a co-worker who owns a 2002 5 Speed manual Corolla. and that car actually gets over 40mpg on highway.

I had a loaner auto 04 Corolla LE when my RX8 was in the shop a couple years back, and took that on a 200 mile trip and got 39mpg driving at 70-80 on cruise. I assume the new Corolloa out now got a bump up in power, so they lose some MPG, but still. I just don't understand the car.

You guys don't understand the Prius...

its all about HOLLYWOOD, TRENDY, all the lefty /Democrat "save the planet" look at me morons.
I mean how can anyone pay more for something that really gives you less?

we're ramping up ethanol even more because it gets us off foreign oil dependence. Nevermind that we need an assload of diesel powered farm equipment, and fossil fuels for fertilizer, and that ethanol gets lower mpg and is costing us more (gotta add in subsidies, and tax breaks) along with raising feed costs (among other things) so our food prices rise.

Yea, but see the farmers all like it and so do their lobbyists so it MUST be good, despite all evidence to the contrary -_-:icon_no2:

Everyone knows the Pirus will stop the sky from falling in so stop your BS.

yea, that helps it get up to 10 mph at which point the gas engine takes over.

I think it'd be cool to take a prius and do a 20b swap... it'd be very unexpected and somewhat of a slap in the face of those who think it has a huge role in saving the earth.

Most Prius owners in the Bay are woman, asian, and older... like my grandma.

yesssss. or like a 12cylinder beastaroni. would waste more gas.

krijpipudht 05-21-2008 03:35 AM

I tried to buy a Prius and end up with an 8.

mysql 05-21-2008 06:04 AM

yeah. A 20b catless rotary engine with straight pipes would be bad ass.

heyarnold69 05-21-2008 06:19 AM

i looked at a prius before i baught my 8 as well hahahah

Clavius 05-21-2008 08:33 AM

I have to agree with most if not all comments made about Pruis owners. I've never once seen one being driven down the highway in the right hand lane. Always in the left lane doing +80mph zig zagging around to get ahead all the while thinking "Haha meh getz da highOmilage foo's!". Most owners around my area tend to be between 25-40, and usualy men. I agree a Corolla would be more reasonable that and wouldnt it cost less to maintain also? I doubt you can just go to your local mechanic and ask "Hey fix my Pruis!" and expect him to go "ok no problem".

But then again its trendy and cool and makes those who previously bought HUGE ass SUV's feel like they are repenting for their sins of driving that huge beast mainly by themselves and not using the thing for what it was meant to do.

refugeefrompistons 05-22-2008 01:40 AM

I agree with not caring for their car and racing. Can't really describe them as bad drivers. One girl at my school was eavesdropping on my conversation with a buddy talking about RX-8s. She said, "well my prius is like a sports car, its all quiet and such." My first response, "Do you know what rpm stands for?" "No" "Then butt out"

BRGREEN8 05-22-2008 02:50 AM

you rang about riced out prius?
