Toyota in Nascar

I don't know if anyone has posted this or cares about Nascar but apparently Toyota will be entering Nascar in 07. Waltrip and Rusty Wallace will be driving the Toyotas and probably will be the Solaras. Gonna be kind of wierd watching an import after only domestics have been involved for so many years.

dos 06-11-2006 02:07 PM

Are their really any imports anymore? Hell Toyota probably makes as many cars in the US as some of the Big 3.

HiTMaNN 06-11-2006 03:30 PM

Toyota is already in the truck series of Nascar anyways

rotarygod 06-11-2006 03:40 PM

They are all pretty much the same car anyways. Just a different engine and different fiberglass bodywork.

snizzle 06-11-2006 07:32 PM

Apparently this is huge to diehard Nascar fans that want to keep the sport domestic. RG is right.... these cars are already so similiar regardless.

my10ae 06-11-2006 08:26 PM

The will not be racing the Solaras, they will be racing the new Camery. Toyota is in the Truck Series running the Tundra, why not give them a shot to run against Chevy, Ford, and Dodge?

terrypk1 06-11-2006 09:36 PM

well. hahaha. who cares...
when i heard the news like 3 monthes ago, i was like sure "toyota will make some more money in the future, but i will still not buy your car."

army_rx8 06-11-2006 09:41 PM

don't nascar car's use carborators? i'm pretty sure they do but i don't follow nascar at all.

Chrisbert 06-12-2006 06:13 AM

Yes, they are all carbuerated.

Brice-RX8 06-12-2006 07:54 AM

And they have also agreed with the EPA to use unleaded gas starting next season too.

snizzle 06-12-2006 08:06 AM

So we've got....

Ford Fusion
Chevy Monte Carlo
Dodge Charger
Toyota Camry

Which doesn't belong???

Ok....I'm a fan of NASCAR (not one of those die-hard kind that wears the Jeff Gordan leather jacket or anything like that) but more of the I like to watch race cars type of fan.
My feeling is that it's kinda sad that this 'domestic' sport is being 'invaded' by foreign competition.....This may be more of a mind-set thing on my part....I fully understand the fact that the Japanese automakers have factories and emply thousands here (and they are important for us) But, it just doesn't seem right for them to be in NASCAR. My opinion is that NASCAR is an American muscle car type of sport and I have a hard time thinking of Toyota (or any other foreign manufacturer) as having a muscle car in the same vane as us!
On another note, I think that NASCAR should go back to it's roots of being a STOCK car organization. The cars being raced have evolved into being mere shells of the cars they are representing. I've been watching some of the 'Back in the Day' episodes of the stock car races from the 60-70's (hosted by Dale Jr. on Speed).......now that's what I think stock car racing 'should' be. Not the technologically advanced machines that are being raced today. It's gotten to the point where you can hardly identify the different cars. Let's go back to the original intent of racing 'stock' cars!

toyota is simply buying a name in NASCAR, i don't see how they're invading anything other than being a sponsor. it's not like they're going to be bringing in a carbed cast iron small block v8's from japan....if any exist. they'll probably follow suit like they did with the Craftsman series, higher a bunch of people who've designed/built engines for other teams and call it TRD or Toyota or Japanese-Labeled-American-Designed-Cast-Iron-V8-Engine-In-Yo-Face or whatever.

NASCAR going back to how it was....i doubt that will happen anytime soon. It's a money machine at the moment, only a fool would change it up right now. What you need is another series, but two oval racing bodies in the US seems a little silly, much like Indy and Champ Cart.

Well look at JGTC, which is japanese gt racing. They have Ferrai's, Porsh, Lambo's, Viper's. So i dont see why nascar should be just domestic. If a car c taht is being sold in the US is classed under the same as class as the nascars taht are listed. Then they should allow them in the series.

But to be honest i really do not care. A race series that is about 95% of making left turns does not excite me :P

You cared enough to post in this thread :mdrmed:

Seriously, have you ever even watched Nascar? Usually comments like that come from people who are too close-minded to give it a chance. There is so much more to it than left turns.

No i dotn care if they put toyota in the nascar series , nor do i care about the series as a hole. but what i do care is if a car is sold in the US under the same class, it should be allowed to race in that so called domestic race series.

as for the quote about close minded ppl. how many races a year is road track vs the left turn track? AS i said, a series that has 95% left turn does not EXCITE ME. My opinion of the exicitement should not matter to you. so why would you think i was close minded? Because i prefer 95% road track series over 95% left turn series? If nascar series is your thing over gt racing are you close minded? no because that is what you like. And to answer your question if i ever watched Nascar . I have seen it on TV because my friends love it alot. but i got bored watching. But when i watch F-1 (no one better the Senna, rest in peace man ) and Gt im like glued to the TV .

any how but you are right i should give nascar a chance. being raised not in US im not use to this style of racing. so i guess it would seem that im bashing the series. but im really not. I just make jokes about it, because my friends love nascar but hate GT racing or F-1. I think the way i word things may come off wrong , when im not trying to make it sound wrong. so /salute to you Shake and others that do like Nascar series.

You did give it a chance, and you didn't like it which is perfectly fine. But there are plenty out there that dismiss it without any basis other than "it's just left turns" or "it's just a redneck no-talent sport." I can't comment on GT/F1 since I don't watch so I haven't really given that a chance myself.

I completely understand your point of view if you've given it a chance and it doesn't excite you. I felt the same way initially about Nascar but once I started watching and I had a driver to two to cheer for it was a whole different animal. After I became a fan, it now annoys me when people think Nascar is little more than turning left for 400 laps.
