0-60 5.8
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
All I gotta say is wow, from a family sedan I am pretty impressed. It has all the luxury features you can want AND its fast! I am startled to look into the future, 2009 Camrys that go 0-60 in like 5.4..
Of course this is all useless when on a track with actual turns and such, but on paper Camrys rule!

LOL, speed isn't everything. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone excited about a Camry...

Family cars get faster and faster with more HP and decent traction control systems. Now can they finally go fast in the fast lane instead of impeding traffic in it.
Most people drive these things like there is a 4 cylinder in it. I guess the HP and 0-60 are there to boost their child seat in the rear egos.

You guys are missing the real question.
With the accord, camry, altima, and many others pumping out more power then the 8, when is Mazda going to give some attention to it's flagship sports car.
When the average people mover is moving faster then mazda's top sports car, it's time for Mazda to start keeping up with the competition. I mean, all the cars that we first compared the 8 too when it first came out are all leaving the 8 further and further back.
This is not about the camry passing the 8 in the power department, it's about mazda's inability to keep up with the competition...

similar to the s2000, due to the lack of torque and power down low, rx8 needs a clutch burning high rpm clutch drop in order to get a good time in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile. its very hard to execute, without it, you can easily add another .5+ second to the 0-60 time....
sooner or later even the likes of 350Z will be slower than the grocery getters. its just a natural process of cars getting faster and more fuel efficient...

Yup. Just look at the Z's VQ. 10 years ago, you'd have been laughed off the block for suggesting a factory, naturally aspirated V6 producing 300HP. Unfortunately the rotary will be left behind (NA at least).

A 1997 M3 by my sources produced 240hp @ 6000rpm with 236lb-ft @ 3800rpm. BMW didn't break 300 until the E46. It looks like the old M5's were pushing 300, with an I6. BMW has always been the exception when it comes to building engines. They make some of the best out there.
I said V6 anyway
