I'd rather have an 8... Except maybe that 911

kersh4w 12-25-2008 09:54 PM

each of those cars has their own merits.

but i'd gladly take the elise or 911 seeing as their are in our own sports car territory.

kersh4w 12-25-2008 10:30 PM

you wouldnt waste your time with a lotus elise?

man you just dont know...

and all those other cars serve a purpose. that just might not be a sports car. would you really pass up a 500ft/lb bently for $25,000? i know i wouldnt if i was looking for a sedan.

briann 12-25-2008 10:58 PM

id take the porsche or lotus
the DB7 looks fun though

User24 12-25-2008 11:51 PM

Mercedes #1? That is by far, the ultimate woman's car.

911 is a good choice, but never in silver.

"Top 10 used exotic cars". What is range rover, bmw doing there?

I'd buy an Elise but it's just not as good of a deal (compared to list price) as the others listed and i'm thinking daily driver -- like my 8.

Got a bit excited bout the Aston Martin until i saw it was a freakin vert, puke.

911 gets my vote as well, although the AMG would be tuff to pass up i admit.

Hornet 01-01-2009 11:33 PM

Let's see here...I'll take a E55 AMG along with a side of 911, and for dessert we will finish with an Elise (only because I'm not sure I would fit into one at 6'1"). The reason I'd take that AMG first is because as much as I love the twisties, I am absolutely intrigued by the concept of having a sleeper and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that don't know about the AMGs.

What are you talking about. Everything I have ever seen says that the Elise is the most fun car on the road today. The thing is under 2000 lbs with a full tank of gas. Fastest that "Car and Driver" has ever taken a car through the slalom.

The Elise might not be as good of a deal as the other cars on the list, but most of the reason the other cars are on the list is that the cars are liabilities due to the cost to service them. They have unique engines, and a lot of luxury electronic gadgets that tend to break. What are you going to do if the motor on your electronic seat breaks on your bently? Especially if its all the way forward because you were vaccuming or let your girlfriend borrow it? It might take another 15 grand a year to keep some of these things going. The Lotus has a toyota engine. And not much else is going to break, since it doesnt have anything else there is not much to break.

It's funny how the 996 prices are dunking below those of the 993. Given the choice for the same dollar, I'd be taking a 993, but at 25 grand, the facelifted 996 is a pretty sweet deal....provided you have a good source for parts/labour.

I leased my 2004 RX-8 with the intention of buying it out at the end because the balloon payment was lower and so were the monthly payments, as opposed to the financing the dealer offered me; however, my thinking had been that if it had turned out that my wife and I could not have had children, then I was going to let it go and get a 1986 Lotus Esprit (the last year of the original Guigario design) which had the improved engine, Bosch injection and electricals, and the galvanised underpinnings. When my daughter was conceived, that plan was scrapped and I decided to buy out the lease. In retrospect, I'm glad, as the RX-8 is incredibly fun, and yet has a perverse amount of practicality to it.
