XDEEDUBBX 07-31-2007 10:55 AM

very interesting, over the years the tiburon has been looking much better. not that I have a soft spot for korean cars but the tiburon isn't that bad...

dynamho 07-31-2007 11:30 AM

I like the part about the boosted V6.

supergoat 07-31-2007 11:34 AM

That is actually very cool.

dillsrotary 07-31-2007 11:44 AM

People have been clamoring for a cheap RWD car for years now. I personally believe most people are all talk in this area and would much rather pony up a few extra thousand to get more refinement/performance. Guess we'll finally get to see what happens.

DailyDriver2k5 07-31-2007 12:22 PM

Good for Hyundai... but did you notice that it will probally be coming out a half year later than the new sedan that suppose to debut a year later from now. So where talking probally a mid '09 release date. By that time the new Tiburon will have alot of stiff competition.

By that time the new 370Z should be out, the new Camaro will be out, new STI ,EVO , refreshed Mustang, will be out. Cars that will be in the mid 20-35k range , all that will probally toating well over 330HP/300TRQ+ under there hoods.

A 300 HP Tiburon could be competitive , if and only if , if its lite weight, which would be a stretch now that cars are packing on the pounds . Or if they offer a boosted V6 which you the consumer could tune and mod.

I fear 300HP in the next few years will be the late '90's 200HP. Where every car will have 300HP as a standard or close to it. But the achillies hill is that these cars will be porkers packing 3500lbs+ range. So really that 300HP becomes useless and watered down. The only thing that can save these obese cars if they come with massive torque to move that heft around. But haven't seen that yet with the lower end market of American/Euro /Japanese cars, except in the Euro cruise missles a.k.a E63, M5, S6, etc....

Everything else is just gainging the pounds yearly and not offsetting it with a high output motor to move that heft around.

Hyundai needs to keep the weight down or the car next Tiburon will be a RWD hefty coupe that performs ok for the money.

all this talk about hp, my car still doesn't break the 200 whp mark =(

Yeah but your car and our cars are lite compared to alot of the cars out there with 100+HP more and that is toating 500-800lbs more weight, making our cars still competitive and effective against them.

Million dollar question.... will the Tiburon be?

dmorales 07-31-2007 01:15 PM

Boy are we going to hear about it when people start putting down high 13 second passes in their Tiburons...

We'll see...

lesper4 07-31-2007 01:30 PM

cant wait to see the finish product, they remind me of a "big lots" sport car

Tessai 07-31-2007 01:34 PM

I'm excited about this. Sure, the new Camaro and the 370z and the STI/EVO and all that jazz will be out.. but the Tiburon will most likely cost $10k cheaper.

Besides, as much as Autoblog keeps going on about a V6... the engine bay photos show a turbo 4. Perhaps the car will base with a turbo 4 and have a V6 option... much like the 1.8t/VR6 choice for VW's a few years back.

Although I'd much rather Mazda made the Kabura... I'm looking forward to more news about this new Tibby.

its because your car is not JDM enough. you have to add like these jdm type stickers to even get over 200whp. i thought you knew this already . wtf :)

as for the tibby. nice to see tibby getting love .

I keep telling XdeedubbX that Carbon Fiber fender strakes would help wind resistance and increase HP. :D:

Glad they're finally going RWD on this thing, should be the death of the Eclipse when it comes out.

Spin9k 07-31-2007 01:55 PM

Just to keep persepective... Read this review http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_108986/article.html of the current car.

This is where they are coming from, and obviously they realize a number of the current offerings shortcomings, or they wouldn't be changing the car so much. Still, it is a Hyundai, and they have to work with the knowledge, platforms and equipment they have; which from a sports car perspective the review shows is pretty much limited to the sporty styling, not sports car DNA and substance.

I wish them good luck, but with low expectations of the final result.

I thought the Eclipse was already dead. :)

playdoh43 07-31-2007 02:27 PM

i wouldnt be surprised if the 4g eclipse is outselling the rx8 and crossfire combine.

playdoh43 07-31-2007 02:39 PM

and the pic looks like a turbo I4, not a v6

Spinning Sushi 07-31-2007 02:47 PM

Man, I hope I don't see people going around saying "I LOVE MY KDM"

I'm sick and tired of people saying "OMG! THAT'S SO JDM" and such....

tjbourgoyne 07-31-2007 03:02 PM

This car will be a fatty pants that rides like a rickety ship.

m477 07-31-2007 08:46 PM

rwd platform that the company recently developed for its Genesis luxury sedan
Well, there goes any hope that it will be lightweight. Basically it will be a Korean Camaro.

But that's what North American likes! Lots of hp on paper. Forget about weight, balance & cohesiveness. :) It will sell!

playdoh43 07-31-2007 10:00 PM

actually north america dosnt even like coupes or care much for rwd to begin with. even the best selling coupes' sales numbers are very small compared to what american people actually like, big floaty sofas on wheels :)

then theres like these enthusiasts who are like what? 5% of the population? always crying out for an affordable rwd sport coupe, then when it comes out, few can actually afford one, or isnt in a financial situation to get one, next thing you know harsh reality hits and it dosnt sell well and its discontinued. sounds like the story of 240sx :)
