tiburon

just curious... does the tiburon have any potential? looks pretty sweet for a chick car but the old Super street mags use to have some sweeet kitted tiburons as thier advertisment... any body know the potential of the car? just curious...

PetersonPeleRx8 03-20-2005 06:41 PM

yes.... this car can potentially be the best car ever. They're so rare, I get so excited when I see them on the road, I always try to peak through the deep tint so I can see who's driving too, I just know it's gonna be Paris Hilton one of these days.

They are so well made too, which isn't unexpected from the best car manufacturer around, Hyundai. I heard P. Diddy owns Hyundai now, is that true? All in all, no matter what you have or are thinking of getting, sell it and get a Tiburon.

The best news is this remarkable manufacturer also makes the Sante Fe, which blows Escalade's and G-Wagons out of the water.

LiL BenNy 03-20-2005 06:49 PM

wow thanks for the complete unuseful post...

scottmhr1 03-20-2005 07:03 PM

I think he sells them! Hey the Tiburon isn't too bad for the price but read the reviews from edmunds etc. It is a bit heavy for the horses. Depends too on what you mean by potential? add 10-15 K to it it could be a great car, but then why buy one when you can get a much better car with out having to grossly mod it?

expo1 03-20-2005 07:16 PM

This Tiburon puts over 600 WHP to the ground / 10.96 ET 1/4 mile. Does mean burnouts also.

oh yeah.. its wonderfully helpful posts like this that makes the rx8club the place to go when looking for helpful info

Styling is purely subject....The V6 Tiburon is not all that bad as a street car for what you pay... but you'll definitely have to dump some good cash into it if you want any sort of recognition at the track

as far as quality goes, Hyundais are actually not that bad these days... well not as bad as they used to be.

Rhawb 03-20-2005 07:44 PM

The Tib is an ok car all around, but it doesn't do anything particularly well. It's heavy, I hate the handling of the thing (especially at low speeds - It's the only car I've ever had trouble driving around in parking lots) and like Scott said the V6 is quite heavy for its power. You can make about any car good after dumping piles of money into it, but personally I don't think I'd start with a Tiburon unless I really wanted a challenge. There are much easier cars to build up.

not bad for $4k

LiL BenNy 03-20-2005 08:12 PM

wow.. that tiburon video was nuts!

ps no intentions of getting one i just saw one the other day and though, no one mods them so do they actually have potential...

N8theGr8 03-20-2005 08:36 PM

Personally I like exterior of it. Never driven one or even been in one, but I think its a pretty hot looking car.

Tiburons are actually surprisingly well built. I liked them a lot until I drove one (and I've driven it several times since then since I know a guy with one) which is when I found myself very disappointed.

It does everything fine for general transportation, the ride is nice, it's not grossly underpowered and it's comfy, but it's hardly a sports car like they'd want you to think. The handling at parking lot speeds is really strange, I often have problems getting into parking spaces without having to re-swing because of being grossly off center. I've never had trouble with parking, but that car gives me a hell of a time. The power's fine, but it's far from being fast - especially for a V6. Those aren't very hard to make quick, so I don't really understand why it isn't.

Dr. BOB 03-20-2005 09:47 PM

One parked next to my 8 today. LOL

PetersonPeleRx8 03-20-2005 10:36 PM

LOL did you bow down to it BOB?

I think the current design is a very attractive car, one of the better looking cars on the road for under 30k in fact. They are not as reliable as a lot of the other Hyundais, they also aren't particularly fun to drive nor do they have much potential without putting a good amount of money in them. However, I think the next Tiburon is going to shock some people.

Hyundai is a making some impressive strides, they now have one of the most reliable cars on the road in their lineup, and overall are ranked near the best or best in reliability for the last few years. Their marketshare continues to grow and they're just going to use that extra revenue to continue to improve their lineup. Don't forget about Hyundais participation in the WRC as well, I'm sure their engineers have learned a thing or two about turboed 4 cylinders as a result.

Ahh, good point

Hyundai is a huge company and they have a goal of cracking into the top 4 in auto producers by 08/09.

Fanman 03-21-2005 03:30 AM

Alpine Development has a nice Roots Supercharger kit for it putting out 300 hp at the crank. Not bad.

well what do you expect if you go yelling it out

LucasET 03-21-2005 11:31 AM

Before I moved from Indianapolis, I seriously looked at the Tiburon. My conclusion was that the RSX-S and Celica GT-S were far superior cars (obviously). Plus, I was too tall to have a sunroof (6'1"). That being said, it's a few grand less and there are some companies offering some decent mods. I really like the design. It has nice lines, and seems wider and lower than it really is. There are also several dozen less lights on the front than the previous generation. For everyone ripping on it, realize that the RX8 is in a different league, and costs several thousand $$$ more. I think it's a decent car. You just wouldn't catch me dead in one.

spork 03-21-2005 11:56 AM

Lucky for you, I brought my Consumer Reports to work to let a coworker see it. Consumer Reports ain't so hot on the Tiberon.

It's got the worst reliability rating from them, placed last in the sporty cars category in (overall test score).

Highs: Acceleration. Long warranty.
Lows: Ride, driving position, tight quarters, reliability

"Handling is fairly nimble but not as involving as you might expect. The car feels nose-heavy, and the steering isn't particularly quick. The ride is very stiff, even for a sporty car."

guy321 03-21-2005 11:59 AM

So, if you were laying on the side of the road about to die, and I were drving along in a Tibby and stopped to take you to the hospital, I do not have your permission to put you in my car?

markd 03-21-2005 12:18 PM

I had to double-check the Hyundai website because I didn't think we could possibly be complimenting the same car I was thinking about. I guess I was wrong. To me, it just looks like an oversized Chevy Cavalier. Ugh. Looks slightly better than a Celica, but, in my eyes, it'll always be a Hyundai, which isn't saying much.
