Thoughts on this RX7 please (now with pics)

I'm curious your guys' initial thoughts on this car. Its only about 30 mins from me, and I'm really curious about the price. However what should I be thinking about here? I basically have a fun autox car in mind to create with this. Something to beat up around a track. However there's always the LS1 swap as well. Just curious your thoughts on the price. Opinions are encouraged. With no pictures, I can only imagine his wide body kit, is 4 different colors of misery, with a bad applicant of bondo all over the place. |
It sounds legit, much better than some lady selling her '94 RX-7 with 56k miles for 2k dollars, and in the ad she says she is selling it because she feels the need to help out the little guy who always sought after the RX-7 but could never afford it....can you say SCAM!:rollingla
The ad sounds legit, I say take you and a buddy and check it out, craiglist ad tend to be on the shady side these days. |
That's pretty cheap for a running FD. The best thing you can do is check it out and test drive it. Bring a compression tester, also.
|
i haven't personally ever driven one, but it seems cool. def check it out for yourself. see what the mileage is, the history, and so on. also remember you have to pay insurance once u get it too.

I think its some kid who thought he could build this dream machine, and realized how much time, effort and dough its going to cost him, and just wants it gone now. What sounds sketchy to me is it was originally from Hawaii. Up here in SD, you don't hear to many small town people shipping cars from Hawaii. But Theres always a first. If its true it had to cost him a small fortune to get it here.

I"m not even too worried about the compression testing out that well. I kinda want it for the LS swap. I have a friend whose going through the swap right now and turns out its not that hard.
|
^^^^ But then again I might turn into the guy who bought an RX7 with big plans, realized how hard it is, and returns it to Craigs list shortly in the future and just wants it gone! HA

Sketchy ad.
Has 2X intercooler with aluminum piping and HKS blowoff 3.5" turbo back SS exhaust, turbo timer is wired just not installed. There are no pics--no doubt because it's fugly in its current state. The bodykit thing is sketchy. You will need a compression test done on the motor. 7.5k isn't a killer deal for a ragged out car anymore. The price of crap FD's are going down. You'd have to go there and physically inspect everything to get a better idea of whether to go for it or not. If you really want to do an LS1 swap then it might make sense to buy this car. Many LS1 swapped cars started life as somebody's aborted project like this. |
Of course there's my personal car:

Paul that is a beautiful car! Good luck with your sale.
|
No pics makes it hard to help, but I say you go check it out if you're only a half hour away.

Wells its not a scam. However its for sure not Pauls!!! Now what you think? I'm thinking offering 5K now I see it. I doubt he'll take it. I think he's young and thinks he has the next barrett jackson dream.
I hate the body kit. I've never worked with one, is that sucker most likely on there? I probally wont get it off will I? Much less any blue paint under there. |
that body kit is rather ugly. It depends on how it's put on. No matter what, you're gonna have some body and paint work ahead of you. Those tails are hideous as well. If you're looking for a nice slow build, $5k might not be terrible.

Intercooler, turbo back exhaust? No mention of ecu or tune or boost controller... IBscared of that car. With a full exhaust on a fd, you need at least a boost controller and should port the wastegate too to keep the boost down to safe levels. A tune should also be done.
