Texas will be the first state to have 85mph "speed limit"

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/...154924311.html

Now I officially hating everyone in Texas (YEA YOU 9K!)

Wat da F!? We can't even drive faster than 30 mph in areas cuz those retarded morons never bothered to "look" before they put their foot out on the road.

and most highways in NY is 55 or less. Cuz again retarded people can't drive for shit. I see them every freaking day !

and you guys get to try 85 mph LEGALLY!?

SHIT, THIS SUCKS, I'm MOVING! :shocking::shocking::shocking::shocking:

lta_ds_fs7 06-07-2012 02:42 PM

Not like it would make a difference...Not in Dallas at least...I hardly see a car driving under 80...I usually drive btwn 80-90.

Plus...We need higher speed limits...Everything is so far apart...It would be nice to save some time and not get a ticket for it.

Parmer8 06-07-2012 03:51 PM

If it's the same toll road stretch I'm thinking about, that's awesome. It's already 80, so now I can legally do 85. Toll roads in Austin is popping up quickly and they are usually are empty...no one likes paying for them.

This stretch will also get us in and out faster to the new F1 track.

I wish I can go over 55 on NYC highways without being chase down by some cops camping at the corner waiting to meet his "quota" everyday.

but I doubt we will be able to go anything higher, especially when we have shit like this

http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/abo...eedlimit.shtml

maybe they should ask people to actually look at the stupid roads before they cross ? I think that will be helpful

and they don't even talk about how dangerous all these people on bikes are. dashing around the roads like they owned them. jesus. when you hit them , your fault, if they hit you, it's STILL your fault. don't even ask me how I know.

9krpmrx8 06-07-2012 03:59 PM

Funny, we were just discussing this in the SARX lounge. I routinely take the Toll way around Austin on my way to my parents house and it's already an 80MPH speed limit and it's 75MPH on I-35 in some places and 80MPH on I-10 West outside of San Antonio. And I should add that I have never seen a cop on the Toll Way and I take it at least once a month.

lta_ds_fs7 06-07-2012 04:00 PM

Texas Toll Roads = Pure Gold

Higher speed limits

9krpmrx8 06-07-2012 04:01 PM

Yep, 80MPH = 90MPH + in my head

nycgps 06-07-2012 04:04 PM

I hate NY more and more.

lta_ds_fs7 06-07-2012 04:04 PM

Come join us...Texas is great...lol

 My entire family outside of two cousin and my immediate family lives in the NYC/Jersey area and my dad left when he was 18 and never returned. He has no clue why they stay in NY. But I guess it's tough to leave what you know.

"The higher the speed limit, the more accidents there are, the more injuries and the more deaths," Jerry Johns, president of the Southwest Insurance Information Institute, told Reuters last year.

What?! That is the most idiotic statement I've seen in a while. Most accidents happen when people try to PASS slower cars.

Germany's Autobahns don't even have a speed limit on cars, and it's apparently safer than US limited freeways.

"The overall road traffic safety of German autobahns is comparable to that of other European highways. According to the statistics collected by the International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group,[12] there were 2.2 road user fatalities per billion vehicle kilometers on German autobahns in 2008. Using the same statistic, 4.5 fatalities have occurred in the United States on motorways."

Yep, Central Texas (Austin) to El Paso is roughly 8 hours and you're still in Texas!

tronicj 06-07-2012 05:59 PM

Beaumont to El Paso 13.5 hours.... that's a long drive at 75 or 95 no matter what you say!

monchie 06-07-2012 08:18 PM

Planning to move to Texas now...lol

Razz1 06-07-2012 09:51 PM

Good, then maybe you will stop posting.

pdxhak 06-07-2012 10:35 PM

Both Nevada and Montana at one point had no speed limit or rural roads and freeways.

I wish I could go over 55 on NYC highways without breaking a suspension component, bending a wheel, or rattling 50 bolts off before I get to point B.

YaXMaN 06-07-2012 11:14 PM

I'm in Austin, as well.

Here's something to ponder... you can take defensive driving for less than 25mph over the speed limit in Texas... meaning, in an 85mph zone, you can do 110mph and can get out of the ticket.

CrazyJek 06-08-2012 02:43 AM

fuck all of you lol

NY is garbage. I hate it. I just got pulled over for two speeding tickets in the last 5 weeks. For DOING 70 MPH!!! And i was going with the flow of traffic. Cops must have red car syndrome.... My first speeding tickets in 7 years. That doesnt include the 4 times ive been pulled over in the last 8 weeks for my red parking lights. I went years without a problem...now all of a sudden they are attracted to me like magnets.

Honestly... i cannot wait to leave this pitiful state.

CrazyJek 06-08-2012 02:48 AM

I mean hell.... no point in driving a sports car in NY. The speed limits here dont scale with car technology. WTF is the point of owning an RX8 or ANY sports car for that matter in NY...when your suspension falls apart and your bolts rattle off, and you blow tires and dent rims from potholes...and you cant even drive it like it was designed. WTF is the point! I cant wait to move to FLorida.

rotarygod 06-08-2012 07:25 AM

For those that have never been there, this tollway that is going to 85 mph was built way east of civilization out in the middle of nowhere. That's why there are never lots of cars on it. Then again the new F1 track is being built off of it! Texas won't put a speed limit this high in a congested area. You can't just randomly assign any speed limit to any road and expect it to work. In Houston all the freeway limits are 60-65 but with traffic you are lucky to ever get up to it depending on which freeway you are on. In other places traffic regularly flows at 80 mph.

Keep in mind that Montana had no speed limit years ago but that was done away with because car clubs kept showing up to the state to do top speed runs on public roads. People from other states ruined it for those who lived there. I've seen speed limits go up and down here. They've gone from 55 to 65 to 75 then back to 70 then back down to 60 and up again. Each time people argue that the roads will be safer. There is one consistent element to all of them. People still die in car accidents. I have no doubt that 85 will last a few years and then they'll change it again. Probably because too many people will be going to defensive driving for going 110.

usnidc 06-08-2012 07:39 AM

I went to my Grandmother's funeral last year in Plainview, TX. It was about 20 miles from the funeral home to the cemetary... I had a hard time keeping up with the hearse driver with my crappy rental car on the long straight country roads... he was going about 95 mph most of the way.

the coolest thing though was everyone we passed pulled over and stopped and let us pass, even the cops...

"Clara Heyworth was killed at the hands of a driver who may have been drunk, may have been speeding, and definitely did not have a driver's license. We'll never know for sure, however, because the NYPD botched the investigation into the crash. Clara's death in July 2011 is a tragedy. The police department's handling of the case is an injustice.

The botched investigation of Clara Heyworth's death let a deadly driver back on the road. The police failed to visit the scene of the crime for three days. By that time, any evidence that could have convicted the driver -- skid marks, debris, surveillance videos -- was all long gone. The worst part is that Clara's tragedy isn't an isolated incident -- it's standard operating procedure for the NYPD. Vehicles crash on city streets approximately 215 times a day. The NYPD investigates less-than-half of one percent of those crashes. In every other case, evidence of possible criminal conduct is ignored."

And for the record, if anyone thinks they "own the road," it sure as hell ain't cyclists.

Come to Colorado for a week, and spend some quality time in and around Denver, Boulder, Louisville, Superior, Broomfield, Arvada, Westminster, and any of the canyon roads in the Foothills, and you will see groups of bicyclists hogging the whole road, and throwing things at cars on a daily basis, and much much worse on the weekends.

Professional Bicyclists from all over the country come here to train in the warm, thin high altitude conditions here all year long, to prepare themselves for competitions in other areas of the country/world.

As a sports car driver, and a motorcyclist, I get into exchanges of unpleasantries with them on way to frequent of a basis for my tastes. When I'm on my motorcycle, they get a warning honk when they are blocking a curve, and then I ride right through their pack if they've upset me long enough. They really don't like that.

Not all are bad, but for some reason, when there's a pack of spandex wearing brightly colored morons on bicycles, the stupid seems to come out in them.

BC.

Kinda like, not all motorcyclists are bad, but for some reason, when there's a pack of black leather-wearing morons on obscenely loud hogs, the stupid seems to come out in them.
I get it. (And for the record, I rode for 19 years. My bike was real quiet, though (Honda GT 650). Loud bikes really anger non-Harley owners. Not that what bothers non-Harley owners matters.)

But seriously, I think we can all agree that jerks on any kind of wheels – bicycles, motorcycles, cars, skateboards, blades – tend to be selfish assholes. And nobody cares for that.

Matrx8 06-08-2012 10:58 AM

Well I can understand where they're coming from, riding bikes motorized or not is dangerous. I generally give both types of bikes a wide birth. But just because you're doing 25 mph on a bicycle and you're in a large pack doesn't mean you can hog the entire road, you need to be courteous and let faster traffic pass safely.

Another part of it is the pack mentality. People tend to act more aggressive and outgoing in a pack than they normally would by themselves. For instance, you're more likely to call somebody an a**hole if you've got 5 buddies behind you saying "Yeah that guy's an a**hole, don't let him get away with that."

New Yorker 06-08-2012 11:29 AM

after 30 years of still going road work*cough*

there are couple of highways that u can go 55 without killing our 8

just gotta be careful cuz they lowered the speedlimit to 50 on most of these nicer roads, and cops have been pulling people over for doing 55. hey Bloomberg gotta balance budget, right?

while i feel sorry for her death and no doubt that driver is a pure a hole and got real lucky over this, but we weren't there so we honestly don't know what happen. maybe she thought it was OK to cross at 2 am without looking? maybe she underestimate the upcoming cars speed? who knows. i know i seen enough people just cross without looking and even gave me a dirty look when i hit my brakes hard like i did something wrong.

if she got run over on the side walk then its 100% drivers fault, otherwise, I'm not going to say who is right unless i witness the whole incident, gotta know both side of the story u know.

i drive almost 12 hours everyday now so i am fairly sure i know how nyc people and cyclist deal with the roads ...

I thought "Reasonable and proper" in Arizona and Montana went away in 1974 with NMSL, Nixon's double nickle. That was for fuel economy, but the "speed kills" crowd adopted NMSL as if it made sense.
