Sub installation price
I blew the sub in my Toyota. I dont know much about sound systems but im looking to get it replaced. It's I went to a local car audio/fabrication shop. The estimated price they gave me was $200 for a Memphis MClass 8inch Sub including the installation.
Is this how much it would usually cost? I've heard of Memphis but im not sure about the quality. This a good brand? lol :eyetwitch |
Are the electronics blown, or just the driver? If the woofer itself is popped, why not buy the cone and install it yourself? A few screws, plug a couple wires, and you're good to go.
If it's a complex job, then probably best to pay the pros. |
Just the driver I believe.
I didn't know you can just buy the cone lol hm.. thanks for the advice |

You could probably buy the woofer and install it without much trouble. Google some reviews and see what people think. |
Sounds about right. 100 bucks labor, 100 bucks for the sub.
If just the Sub itself is blown and the amp or enclosure isn't damaged; the repair isn't hard enough to warrant professional installation, so long as you can handle a screwdriver. There are probably 6 or 8 screws around the edge of the speaker. take those out, and the whole thing should lift out of the enclosure. Disconnect the speaker wires and then repeat the process in reverse with the new sub. Make sure to replace the sub with one of the same impedance. I've never used Memphis so i cant speak of quality, and i cant find pricing for them online. Is this an OEM sub? |
I'll need to buy a special screwdriver/bit to remove the sub.
&I shall google what the impedance is. Does it say it on the subwoofer? The OEM sub is JBL. thanks for the help |
I bet the toyotaclub forums would have a sticky detailing what size and impedance sub you need, and how to remove any panels in your way.
