First, nice video.

Now, for the purposes of streamlining the responses in the waiting....the typical response will be...

"WOW!!, No way dood. The Vette has leaf springs"
or
"Dood, that's impossible, my grandma's car has overhead valves"
or
"Enzo would've won if Schumacher was driving it"
or
"Vette only wins by xx seconds, that's sad"
or
"Vette wins because it's lighter cause of the plastic interior"

and last but not least and done in honor of our resident elitists (LOL) ....

"Vette driver must not have been towing his double-wide"

My apologies in advance if this puts a damper on the responses, but we've heard it all before.

the GT-R is faster in the turns while the ZR-1 is clearly faster on the straights. props for both and not taking anything away from the ZR-1, in the world of performance motor sports the lap time is ultimately what matters. cant wait to see how the v spec stacks up

Digi Sniper took the words out of my mouth....

But looking at the drive. The GT-R driver had it easy. No sawing at the wheel like with the ZR-1 driver. Overall a great video and a great find!

I love Corvettes and plan to get one when they work out the insensitive steering bit.

They were both failry close. The Vette driver messed up in a couple of places but admittedly I was watching him most of the time and not the GTR so I don't know if the GTR driver ever messed up. Through the corners it was anyones game and it probably came down to driver. They were both very good though. Over the distance of this track I think a couple of seconds either way is a moot point. Had this been a race with other cars, they'd both be matched up very well. I'm sure someone will point out that the GTR has turbos and a little bit of extra pressure alone could have made up the distance. That too is irrelevant as that's not how the car comes.

Overall I think they are both quite evenly matched. At the end of the day you are going to have a different person for each car. Both are impressive and I'd be more than happy with a car that couldn't do anything close to what these can as I'm sure my driving skill would run out long before the car hits it's limits.

I for one see no valid excuses to hand it to one or the other nor do I see any valid excuses to say one should have this or that. Two very close cars with two very close drivers. Both excellent vehicles. Enough said.

I'd say you summed it up nicely.

'll take one of each.

No magenta.

Jet Black and a pearly white would do fine.

It looks like the GT-R would be easier for the common driver to get more out of. It looks more tame, so to speak. Like most other AWD cars, they are easy to drive fast.

You can see how the Vette is a little harder to keep straight, but in the right hands is is an amazing weapon.

Over the distance of this track I think a couple of seconds either way is a moot point.

The car with the better lap time is indeed the better car for this particular track and that should be noted. A win is a win whether it's 1 sec. or 1 minute. Different track things may change. I would like to see the same driver drive both so we could eliminate driver skill. Though that doesn't mean that the ZR1 is the better all round car. I give that to the GTR due to 2+2.

IIRC, didn't an engineer or tech drive the ZR-1?

I personally don't care either way who wins but I do find your logic to be flawed. "The car with the better lap time is indeed the better car for this particular track and that should be noted." This sentence in particular can be torn apart all day long. So what would happen if let's say they took another lap and the outcome was reversed? Does that mean that suddenly the other car is the best for that track? With times that close, it would be foolish to claim the outcome would always be the same. A win is a win I agree. This wasn't a race though. They were compared timed laps and these particular timed laps turned out this way. You nor anyone else can say with any certainty that it would always turn out this way. Therefore the car that wins is not necessarily the best car for this particular track. What if I were driving one and the Stig were driving the other? He'd probably kill me with a much lesser vehicle. Would that make the winning car then the best?

I think the point is clear. When no excuses are made, these are pretty equal cars on that track. There is no winner or loser. There is only a 1 lap video reference for each.

I would still rather drive the ZR-1, no matter the lap time, as it is more engaging than playing Gran Turismo....

DailyDriver2k5 07-15-2008 09:17 AM

Thanks for the vid alfy, great find! Both cars are very capable at what they do best, to be fast and to handle extremely well.

nice comment, based on the fact that youve never driven either of the cars

Nice vid!! Scary stuff!!

The Vett is to light in the turns. Any more HP and that thing is going to be a death trap for the stupid drivers. The GTR looks like it plants on the ground real good.
I like GTR :)
