Should a $400,000 car have condensation in its tail lights?

Check out what I saw driving down CA 280S! The car had dealer plates, and got off of 280 at Page Mill Road. Man, I see cars like this everytime I come back to the Bay Area. I love this place! Boston's just not doing it for me - all I see there are Hummers. I followed the SLR home all the way from San Francisco Airport.

The funniest part (or saddest part) was that after it had exited, I followed a Sunlight Silver RX-8 until I got to the next exit. It was definitely very very anemic looking, having stared at the McLaren SLR for 30 miles  .

Also, take a close look at the rear pictures of the car. That's a ton of condensation. If I paid $400,000 for a car, it had better be an example of mechanical perfection and attention to detail.

That is one sexy car, with or without condensation.

It's a feature!!!

Those water-cooled tail lights are an expensive option.

TODreamer 03-28-2005 08:43 AM

How do you know the owner didnt do something stupid like pop open the rear light housing..... and even more stupid.... not put it back together properly

moRotorMotor 03-28-2005 08:44 AM

Maybe the driver was getting so much...'action', because of the car, the tailights were steaming up?

czr 03-28-2005 08:45 AM

I would have sped off if someone started taking pictures of my car like that at all different angles but thanks for sharing ;) .

honestly.. i hate that mercedes.. i think it's probably one of the ugliest ever made.. and i like mercedes a lot..

oh well..

StretchSJE 03-28-2005 09:55 AM

I think it's the ugliest supercar of recent memory.

V_for_velocity 03-28-2005 09:56 AM

OK I guess, if you like silver.

TODreamer 03-28-2005 10:05 AM

it looks like a fancy dress shoe :D

chinx 03-28-2005 10:17 AM

i really hate that car too

you pay 400k and you get a 5-speed automatic. what the heck?

Captain Amazing 03-28-2005 11:14 PM

There is no manual?

Audioslave8 03-28-2005 11:38 PM

Awesome pics, id love to see that thing on the road.

Silverarrow 03-29-2005 12:29 AM

I too think that is a horrible way to spend 400k....really, it's not that nice looking.

BlueEyes 03-29-2005 08:19 AM

I would spend 400K on this car. It could be the perfect GT car. I think some of you have a hard time swallowing that price tag because you don't, nor ever will, have that kind of money. The people that buy these cars don't finance them, 400k to them isn't very much.

And yes, it only comes in an automatic. With an AMG torque monster engine it doesn't really need a stick, even though it would be nice. Like I said, its the ultimate GT.

Silverarrow 03-29-2005 08:29 AM

I beg to differ, even people with 400k to spend freely would be really remiss to buy this monstrosity....

BlueEyes 03-29-2005 08:35 AM

You're welcome to beg, but it's in vain. The fact of the matter is that Merc sold all 3500 before the first one hit the road. Sure some of them were bought buy flippers, but they will all find homes no doubt.

or this....

BlueEyes 03-29-2005 10:56 AM

well, if you have enough to buy a 400k car, you probably have enough to buy 2. I'm telling you, it's the ultimate GT car. But we shouldn't be comparing SC cars to NA cars right :p

DARKMAZ8 03-29-2005 11:17 AM

Im not comparing performance of the merc.......It just looks like an old mans sport car........ :p

As far as drivability for a daily driver goes....the merc would win that hands down....my buddy has the sl55 and it is smooth as silk!!!!! at 200km/h you feel like your goin half that.......I just rather have a true sports car for that kind of money.....If I wanted a smooth ride and class I would go for the maybach.... ;)

You can't drive the Maybach though, you're to be driven in it. What if you wanted to have a smooth ride, look classy, and drive?

dankgummy 03-29-2005 11:35 AM

reminds me of the car from the SNL cartoon 'ambiguously gay duo'

More than 80% of new Ferrari are financed or leased. Those are people that have high incomes but are still dog d*ck broke.

On the flip side are many wealthy people that don't spend their money frivolously on everything under the sun. Believe it or not you don't get wealthy by spending all of your money.

In my building there is a 57 that is daily driven by the owner. The 62 is meant to be chauffered.
