Shell V-power
 

Anyone try this new gas yet? I put a couple of tankfuls in my 2004 WRX, and my mileage is about 2 MPG better. Obvisouly not a perfect test, with some of the variables we have in driving, but it sure seems to be higher immediately after I changed brands. I just filled up the 8 tonight, so we'll have another test next week.

I've switched to V-Power since the end of June and have found it to be outstanding in performance. Like you, I've been getting "extra" miles out of a fill-up when compared to the other fuels I've used.

I have done many mileage tests with my Tundra with shell gas and have always gotten 1 to 2 mpg better. The problem is it costs 10 to 15 cents a gallon more then Citgo which I usually buy. It probably has more cleaner in it also.

V-Power all the way. I have been using this gas for some time now in my 8. My gas mileage is better, power is better...wallet is lighter!!

I called Mazda USA after I bought my 8 and asked there recommendation on gas. The person I spoke to said V-Power.

Yea that MPG thing, all depends on how you drive.

I don't want no yellow tropical fish swiming around in my gas tank :D.

The only difference between gasoline brands are the additives that get added as the truck leaves the depot. They're literally dumped in as part of the load relying on the movement of the vehicle to mix the product.

Never forget, that grades of gasoline brands are themselves a commodity. Companies will buy/sell/swap inventories without any product changing hands.

Don't believe the hype.

v power 93 is all I have used and right by my home at 2.19 per gallon.
Good power --get 17 mpg hyway which is all I really drive (50 mile commute daily)
I am still "L" flash and thinking about getting "M" but no problems so far ?

my last 3 refills with V-power had led to 19 mpg. Previously, on the old premium shell, it produced 16 mpg. It sure made me feel better to see better mileage. There could be other factors, but from consistantly getting 16, then when vpower came out to 19, it drew me in. VPOWER ALL THE WAY!

its been nothing but vpower since i got it in january. id swear by it, but my mileage doesnt let on as much ;)

I just think it's funny putting "V-Power" into my 8.

i notice milage different in mine, mine is still with orginal flash from 7/03. have not gotten my car ecu flash yet. driving habit wise i floored it every chance i get and i almost got 300 miles on one tank. i am not sure if this is the normal milage you would get on one tank in the 8.

Not sure how many of you know this, but one of the biggest gas mileage issues has nothng to do with your car, but instead with your gas. If you live in one of the major urban areas that has air quality issues on a regular basis (NY, Chicago, LA, Denver, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, etc. etc.), you likely have only oxygenated gas available to you. Oxygenated gas includes an oxygen-content enhancer that promotes more thorough burning.

In theory, one would think this would improve mileage, but it has quite the opposite effect. Instead, the oxygenate "dilutes' the gas and lowers the BTU value or energy content of the gasoline. Basically, the oxygen, by volume, replaces hydrocarbon content of the gas, and the hydrocarbon is where the energy is stored and released under the catalyst of heat.

Ok, enough organic chem, what does this mean in real-world driving" In Chicago and many east-of-the-Mississippi states, they use ethanol to oxygenate the gasoline. Most gasoline manufacturers claim that MBTE or ethanol (the two primary oxygenating compounds) reduce fuel mileage by 2-3% ... reality is that MBTE is in the 2-3% range, but ethanol costs more like 10% in my real-world measurement over a number of years and various cars.

Put another way, last week I drove my new RX-8 to Detroit and back on a single-day round trip - Chicago-Detroit-Chicago - 620 miles round trip. My first tank of gas, containing good 'ol Illinois ethanol, gave me just over 230 miles of range. I stopped to fill when the tank was 1/8 full, put in 12.6 gallons, and, because it was "straight" gasoline, that tank lasted 304 miles. , I put in 12.8 gallons, and went on home.

Bottom line, is that the first tank returned 18.4 mpg (all highway), the next tank returned 23.75 mpg. This is a 23% difference!

Both tankfulls were Amoco Ultimate 93 octane unleaded.

This experience is borne out in every car I've had.

IF I get 225 mpg in the city I am jumping for joy. Most of the time though, I'm filling up at about 210. Lately, I have not even been checking just because it pisses me off so bad. Highway miles are much much better though. That's the only time I can get 300 out of it. Even with the shitty milage, I still love my car.
