Saab

How are they still around? I did a title search for saab and only got like 10 threads to come up. For obvious reasons, I can't just base it off a forum search, but I also see similar results when driving around. I almost never see a saab on the road. I think the last 20 times I've seen a saab are all the same one owned by a guy on the other side of my apartment complex...

We basically have no discussion on them, even with all these automotive companies scrambling to survive. I understand that there are larger brands to talk about, but barely even a mention of them to be seen.

SAAB still is around, they are in disussions with potential buyers.. Haven't follow it that mutch but I think its Kina companies.

I personal dont like SAAB, I feel sorry for the workers if they go down but for the Brand? naa let them die I'm more of an Volvo fan.

My boss, brother, and a colleague all have Saabs and like them actually. Maybe I'm a statistical anomaly.

saab has sort of a cult following. the 9-5 was hugely popular. and they've never been very big. I think there's one dealership in all of florida.

kersh4w 05-17-2009 09:36 PM

there is at least one dealership in the d.c. area.

quite a lot of yuppies drive saabs here. they are nice cars. not uncommon at all here.

I have owned two Saab's and loved both of them. The 9-5 Aero is a really nice sports sedan and is extremely comfortable. I also had a 9-3 Turbo Conv that was a blast. After I had my son I traded it in for an Audi A4.

There are plenty of Saabs here in New England. I see 'em every day.

Ohhhh man, I love Saabs...I used to have a 9000s. It was awesome for the first couple of years I had it, then little things started popping up ALLL the time. I started to have transmission trouble, so I took it to Aamco.....they did a horrible job! So I wound up trading it in. I'd totally get another Saab, but would NEVER trade in my 8 for one

i used to have a 900 turbo. older saabs are awesome, especially the really old ones. they really were as quirky as they're supposed to be. in many ways, those were the ideal transportation devices. fast, sporty, very safe, and economical. unfortunately, saab is a company that gm has utterly and totally ruined. if gm is good at anything, it's ruining things, and saab is a great example. i hope they somehow come out of all the crap that's going on alive, as i'm very curious to see what the new 9-5 will look like. there's a good chance, however, that they may perish, and that'll be real sad. and the one w/ the smoking gun would've been gm

The newest Saab wagons (9-5 or so?) are some of the nicest wagon designs around. But Saabs have some "special" solutions inside, and would for me be annoyances. I don't like things being different just to be different. So I'd never buy one, I guess many people think like me, since few people do :P

 NO DOUBT!!!, I remember one time driving from Wilmington, NC to Atlanta, GA, the ride to Atlanta was awesome...no problems AT ALL. Now..on the way back, the sunroof would open up all by itself...like out of no where...the darn thing started sliding open..ok, weired enough, so I just took the fuse out, no problem. No sooner than taking the fuse out, all the interior lights would just come on for no reason, stay on for a second and turn off :uhh: It was soooo weird. It did that off and on for the last 3 hours of the trip :banghead: When I got home, all that cookey stuff stopped and I couldn't get the sunroof or the interior lights to do it again, my mechanic thought I was crazy.

I traded a 2002 9-3 for my RX8. The 9-3 was not a bad car. It was peppy and with lots of torque steer which was kind of fun. One thing to keep in mind is dealerships are rare so servicing could be a headache. The car needed work once in a while but it was all covered under the warranty unlike my buddy's 9-5 which he had lots of problems with and ended up selling in about a year after he bought it.

The other thing I did not like about it is a bunch of small annoying things:
- Kept replacing one of the headlingts until I disabled day time running lights
- If the AC was on the engine revs stayed up after shifting
- When I changed the tires all wheels were out off alignment
- I could fold down the backseats but then I had to sit with my chest pressed against the steering wheel. That design was kinda stupid
- Under hard acceleration the shifter would get slightly stuck, kinda annoying

Other than that, it was a decent car. By trading for an RX8 I traded decent mileage for refinement, driving precision and awesome feel. Like RX8s, Saabs depreciate quickly so you could get one really cheap.

I had a Saabaru 92x Aero. Fun little car especially when it shares the drive train components with the WRX. I have a soft spot for Saabs. they are unique. That 9-3 Turbo X is hot!
