Its about damn time the law gets tough on there own! Although he should of been put in JAIL instead of slapped with a measly fine! If that was you or I doing that speed on public roads , they would buried us UNDER the JAIL!!!! :icon_no2:

A state trooper who was clocked traveling 131 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone Saturday has returned to work after a three-day unpaid suspension, Department of Public Safety director Mark Keel said.

Senior Trooper J.D. McGaha was ticketed for speeding and immediately suspended without pay about noon Saturday in Kershaw County after his unmarked Dodge Charger was stopped on I-20 by another trooper, Keel said.

McGaha, who is assigned to Horry County, was scheduled to direct traffic at the Carolina Cup in Camden and was running late, Keel said.

He faces a $355 fine and six points against his license if convicted, Keel said.

“There was no justification for it,” Keel said. “He had no excuse.”

Efforts to reach McGaha on Thursday were unsuccessful.

While McGaha was being stopped, he flashed the car’s police lights, presumably to let the trooper know he was a police officer, Keel said.

McGaha’s unmarked patrol car was taken away, Keel said. He’s now driving a marked patrol car.

Troopers consider it a privilege to drive unmarked cars, Keel said.

McGaha has been with the patrol since July 2005 and has no prior disciplinary violations, Keel said.

In August 2006, McGaha was recognized by the Department of Public Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving as “Statewide Rookie of the Year” for his work stopping drunk drivers.

“He’s been a great trooper from what I understand,” Keel said. “He was very apologetic, and he knew he made an error in judgment, and it’s those kinds of errors that can get people hurt.”

Gee.

I'd end up in jail, and without a license, and my car impounded.

He gets 3 days vacation.

What justice?

Got pulled over doin 140 in the vette once...cop let me go because he was into american muscle...wrote 'too fast for conditions'....his boss is in my corvette club...let the ticket go totally.

I pooped a little when I got pulled over.

That speed is excessive as hell and i actually agree with the outcome. Most cops would have been let go with a warning. Thats the the way it is. Like it or not, a perk of being a cop is that you get away with infractions such as these. When i was an investigator for a federal contracted agency, i carried credentials and a badge and was let off MANY times for traffic infractions, but never anything THIS extreme:)

i just got a ticket in SC for 102 in a 55 zone.

445 dollar fine, non mandatory court appearance.

Trooper pulled me over and asked why i was speeding, i said because im goin to meet my new gf.. he just said be careful because there are lots of deer around. Let me go on with the ticket.

BTW, this is in my car that has limo tint, no cat, blue led sidemarkers, and just loud as hell.

SC is NOT strict at all..

U mean THAT trooper wasnt strict at all. I wouldnt necessarily generalize to that extent based on one Trooper's leniency. U were fortunate

Apparently he took his job very seriously (Rookie of the year) so he wasn't about to be late lol.
I have a measly associates degree in CJ and I have spent time with NC troopers for class credit and trust me these guys know how to handle their vehicles!

After going through an academy that rivals the difficulty of the marine corp how could they not??? I completely agree with the three day suspension just as a slap

on the wrist. If that was me on the other hand I would've deserved to loose my

license because average citizens lack the training (no matter what we would like to think).
