RX-8 and RD-6 serarated at birth?
Just a little weird. Isn't it? The Jaguar RD-6 looks a whole lot like it's sitting on the RX-8 platform.
Just when you thought you had something truly unique... corporate incest comes to the rescue. Thoughts? Maybe RD-6 stands for Rotary Deprived 6-cylinder. I do like the rear door though. Then there's the Ford Visos... just add suicide doors. So, maybe the 8 is the marketing trial balloon... or guinea pig?... or test market mule?... I still love mine. So, it IS a car of the future... I can live with that. It won't be long before we forget that sports cars once had just two seats(joke, please don't roast me). RM |
Yeah... a typo in the title... real nice.
Sorry about that. RM |

Thanks.
Well there you have it. At least Mazda got to go first. And us. It's hard to believe how many new concepts follow the format. RM |
great pics
what are those rims 22's |
Is that really being produced??? That sucka looks good!!!

So this is where the turbocharged renesis is going...?
No wonder Mazda execs were so coy. Look at the profile and suggest another fit. Slick little Jag, 4 seats, 315hp, AWD, and ah... how about 7 gears? But I guess the "6" answers that. And oh yeah, $46,900... My 8 is still looking pretty great. And best of all it's right outside and the keys are in my pocket. But when the Jag DOES come out... boy, am I ever going to know how to drive the living **** out of it! I think I'll go start practicing. RM |
It's a good looking car, but I hate platform sharing. I understand it's just good economics to do so for corporations like Ford. I just don't like the idea of Jaguar stealing the RX-8 and making it there own. Build your own platform, come up with your own ideas, and do your own product development.

Looks pretty cool but weird at the same time. The butt looks chopped off and the blind spot is going to be huge with the C-pillar being so thick. Overall, I think it's an exciting change for Jaguar.

I agree with red devil

So much engineering went into this platform... and Ford is in so much trouble. I'm sure they're just glad to have this asset to use across their portfolio. Have you seen their Mazda 3/Ford Focus/Volvo platform share-jobs? And I'm sure we ain't seen nothin' yet.
It would be nice to see the rotary under more marques. RM |
Nice pics DrKillJoY, thanks!
Are we sure that the RD-6 is sharing the same platform? There's already been some eariler links on the RX-8 resemblence ... http://www.autorevue.cz/Images/2442/44.jpg From this angle it really does seem related to the RX-8 ... ;) I found this from cardesinnews.com ... http://www.cardesignnews.com/autosho...hts/index.html Jaguar R-D6 concept Making a surprise debut at Frankfurt IAA today, the R-D6 is the most compact 4-seat Jaguar ever, and builds on the design direction shown by the R-Coupe two years ago. The long 2840mm wheelbase and short overhangs give a new proportion for a premium car, while the pronounced rear haunch provides a very dynamic emphasis to the rear. The headlamps and grille show a fresh interpretation of the Jaguar face. Meanwhile, the rear end has echos of the E-Type with a 'coffin lid' rear hatch and slim taillamp graphic. The interior is laid out as four individual seats and is finished in black leather with piano black and aluminium inserts. Built on a shortened aluminium XJ platform, the R-D6 is powered by a bi-turbo 2.7 litre V6 diesel with 230ps, underlining the message that Jaguar will increasingly offer such powerplants in future. I like the Opel Insignia concept from the Frankfurt Motor Show much better! :p |
so it is not platform sharing, just design stealing :D

Jaguar R-Coupe
I did a "google" search and this came up from edmunds.com ...

I'm not buying it, friends. The bigger Jag concept looks a lot different to my eyes. It clearly sits on the big Jag sports coupe platform(I can't recall the designation) from my POV. Look for the 8 to show up as a Jag (don't believe that truck motor crap). My guess is they're thinking about it as a Cougar and a sporty Volvo w/AWD. It's a great, great platform.
I think you could overlay the two profiles (rx-8 & little Jag) and they'd match up exactly. I am surprised Jag didn't lengthen the platform(the strength is there to do it) to make the world's first TRUE sports sedan (It's such an obvious idea, I'll bet they didn't have time). I'd like to get under mine sometime and see how much room is in there for other motors(and AWD). From the top I have to admit the little rotary looks like it's swimmin' in there. RM |
look, its another, never to be built Jag concept.
There always making great looking concept cars, then making crap. Jag cant make an x-typeR never mind another car, and if this was to see production it'd be replacing £50k's worth of XK8 , and howhere near £25k. |
Looks like they just slapped a Jag front on an RX-8, the profile and rear is extremely similar. True, the RX-8 isn't the first car ever to use clamshell doors, but immeadately after it comes we see a bunch of other cars that resemble it, and not just in the use of suicide doors. It's pretty obvious that Mazda's influence on the Automotive styling world is still pretty strong, which is pretty cool IMHO.
