rx-7 on ebay
|
Yeah I saw that one a couple of days ago. I've been wiping drool off the keyboard since. Start savin your pennies.

Looks like a well done car, however his buy it now is too high. I also am not into the Vielside stuff, and the spoiler is terrible IMO. I really wish highly modded 7's went for these prices, but they very rarely do. I will be interested to see if a deal gets completed for more than 25-27K. Modding the shit out of these cars should be done for your own edification, not for any return at all.

wow
I want a hood like that for my 8 sweet ride |
The wing is a bit much but I could easily live with everything else. The Nose of the car is what draws me in. I don't think the price is too bad but I also don't think it will sell on ebay. You are basically getting a brand new R1 which was more than 37,000 new probably, except its been upgraded in pretty much every way. I think its fair for people who do mods to try to get 50% of what they put into the car back; the guy claims $75,000 is invested so $37,000 doesn't seem like a gouge to me. MK IV turbo supras sell for prices like this (20,000-35,000) and those are often stock with lots of miles on them. All im sayin is show me a car that will be better than this one for $37,000.

It says 3500 miles, but I guarantee you that's on the new engine because they blew the last one, it's not what's on the odometer. Turbo Supras have a great resale because those engines are incredibly strong and reliable as hell. |
Very nice! I ran a carfax on that car coz I still have the 30-day thing. Here's what I found:
The story of this 1993 MAZDA RX7 (JM1FD3319P0200745) according to our interpretation of the information reported to CARFAX: - This coupe has had at least 3 owners. The first title for this coupe was reported to CARFAX by a New York DMV in 1993. - It has had no minor or moderate accidents reported to CARFAX. - It has had no DMV-reported total loss events, like a major accident, fire or flood. - It has a consistent mileage history with no indication of an odometer rollback. It was driven an average of 5,884 miles per year, which is lower than the industry average of 15,000. The last odometer reading, reported on 01/04/2003, was 57,421 miles. - It was repurchased by the manufacturer after repeated repairs. The title was marked by a New York DMV as a Manufacturer Buyback (LEMON). - It has no recalls that still require repair. ... about the lemon, was that a common incident for those 93 RX-7s? Just wondering. I'd still love to own that 7 though. *slurp* |
Trust me, the car is way overpriced. I watch the market for 7's weekly as I am an owner of a modded 7 with a vested interest in what the return is. The car certainly has had an engine replacement (maybe several as it was lemoned). Custom paint does NOT help resale as it is an individual's taste--not done for the general market. The bodywork is also a similar issue. BTW R-1's went for around 37K in 1993. The market for Supras is way higher. If you want your Rx7 to sell for the highest amount, have it bone stock or a few reliability mods. If it sells for that, good for the seller, but the new owner overpayed and could have built a comparable car for way cheaper.

The market bore a high bid 20,000 under the buy it now. Tell you something.

BTW, I love my FD and almost all FDs, but if I am going to spend 37K there are literally dozens of cars (new and used) I would get first because of resale value and reliability. 3 rotor FDs rarely go for this kind of price. Do you want a list of better used and new cars for under 37K that I would take?
Look, IMO the FD is amonst the greatest looking cars ever mass produced. And a well modified one is highly desired by me. But the high end market for this car is not there. Over on the 7 forum the FD owners cry almost daily about how low costs are for our cars and how it allows way to many kids to buy them and wreck em or ruin them with shit mods. |
I already got one; The Evo MR for $33,000. Aluminum roof, 6 speeds, me likey. I know all about kids buyin Rx-7's and wrecking them. My friend sold his 89 turbo II with a blown engine to a 16 year old with the intent to buy it back from the kid at some point. The kid dumped like 5 grand into the car and made it better than new. Wrapped it around a light pole within 3 months. My friends brother bought a 93 rx-7 off of ebay for $10,000 (working at hy-vee) before he even had his liscense. Now he has done a few nice budget mods and that car is in auto shows and he hardly drives it and lets no one touch it.

glad im not the only one not liking the childish spoilers and bodykits.
you'd look like some fast&the furious reject driving around in that. doesn't matter how fast it is...you'll be having 16 yr olds in civics revving at you at every light. trust me. if you like bodykits and clothes rack spoilers...chances are you wont when you graduate highschool... can you imagine showing up to a job interview in that? (i mean one that didn't involve french fries or some "hip" job at mtv. |

FDs look good straight from japan with all the JDM on them. The bodykit on this car looks okay, the wing is hideous, and the headlight kit I am not a huge fan of. I would not be paying 37K for a car that heavily modified.

‚`s much as I love the FD, there's no way in hell this car is worth anything near $37k. Even with a 20B it wouldn't sell for $37k. If this guy is really, really lucky he will get $25k for it and it will still probably take at least 6 months.
And we could flame each other ad nauseum about whether or not the body kit is ugly or t0TalLy r0x0Rz, but I think we can all agree that people who both have ~$40k CASH to spend on a car (since no bank is gonna give you a $37k loan for that) and who like that look are few and far between. |
