Roadster C&D comparo!

S2000 wins in the end.. I can't believe how heavy the 350Z is.. almost 600lbs heavier!

discuss.. :)

To quote an infamous car manufature's ads: "Weight is the enemy!"

Puppy1 07-03-2003 07:35 PM

oh yeah, and who cares about low end tourqe. Most important factors in buying the S2000: Fun to Drive and Value. Does it sound like any other car we know and love?

Schneegz 07-03-2003 09:12 PM

Three ironies observed in this article:

1. This very magazine whines, nags and nit-picks the S2000 in some articles, and fawns over it in others.

2. The lowest-priced car got top honors this time.

3. The Z4, though the top performer overall, was relegated to 2nd worst.

These cars are 100% emotional purchases. People should disregard magazine opinions, drive each one and pick the one they like most because there is NOTHING practical about them!

True to a point.. but would you want to buy a TT that is based on a VW chassis? Ugh...

Not my cup of tea, but obviously a lot of people like the car.

Most people don't know that audi and vw are the same company, and what they really care about is its looks (maybe not all owners, but i know a few that bought it just for that reason).

Schneegz 07-05-2003 10:02 AM

I'd bet that if you take a poll of Audi TT owners, the #1 reasons for buying the car would prove to be the exterior and interior appearance and stiling, both of which have won awards. I'm sure it's a fun car to drive, but I'd bet that most TT owners are more conserned with the admiring looks they get when driving the car than measureable performance.

I've never liked the TT's exterior stiling, but I'm obviously in the minority. The baseball stitching of the leather seats, however, is totally trick.

m477 07-05-2003 11:19 AM

That cracked me up how they started ripping on the TT again in the Boxter section! I don't remember C&D having such a biting sense of humor...

And if people think the TT styling is that great, line it up next to an FD or a 911. Next to the FD it just looks like a lump, with no real shape to it. Next to a 911, it looks like a "Hello Kitty" version of the 911.

You'd be surprised how many people got it for performance. Mind you, a good portion of those people go by "hype" (as in the car has quattro and a turbo) more than the actual feel of a car's ability, and a good portion of those people will rarely push the car far enough so that it's unpleasant qualities become apparent. And some get in that car, are impressed, and buy it w/o trying out too many other sports cars, so they don't know what they are missing.

i test drove the 225 hp version of the tt a couple months ago and i thought it was ultra fast in town light to light.but price and the fact that only 2 people fit and consumer reports rate it poor on realiablity turned me away.

Yep, one of our local Miata club folk bought one recently. Lasted all of about a month before he ditched it and went back to a Miata.

Sure because of the turbos and low torque it "feels" fast.. but if those acceleration numbers are true than it is NOT fast at all.. hell those are Prelude numbers.
This is not a convertible, it's a roadster which to me anyway is about performance first.. and the TT does not deliver at all in the accleration and handling departments according to that review. Factor in the $50K plus Canadian price  and I don't understand why people would even consider it.. I guess the looks are enough for them..
