Quality of BP gas?

I'm thinking of applying for a credit card that gives discounts on BP gas. Anyone use it regularly? How's the quality?

nSanity 08-25-2005 04:20 PM

in the UK, BP gas is very good, cant comment on if its any different in the US

Mugatu 08-25-2005 04:23 PM

isn't BP gas really just exxon/mobil gas in disguise?

nSanity 08-25-2005 04:31 PM

BP gas in the UK is right from the north sea, the US might be exxon/mobil i presume, kinda far to send it to you guys

97zimmer 08-25-2005 04:33 PM

NO, completely different corporation. I've used BP gas in my Mazdas since 1998, i have the credit card or whatever, good stuff, in my miata i use 87 in my 8 i use 93(south U.S.) never have had any problems with the company.

nSanity 08-25-2005 04:40 PM

do you guys not get 98 ron petrol over there? shell and bp offer that here, normal unleaded is 93

LIShinka 08-25-2005 04:46 PM

BP is the same company as Amoco now. Very good quality gas.

wankleman 08-25-2005 04:46 PM

nope, the highest rating is 93 but you can get 103 octane gas(petrol u wanker) some places. 93 octane here is $2.76

Glyphon 08-25-2005 04:48 PM

@olds:
BP uses shell gasoline. and i use BP almost exclusively.

@nsanity:
and here in the states, we don't use the RON rating. we just use octane. 98 ron = 93 octane, 95 (6?) ron = 89 oct, and 93 ron = 87oct.

Thanks for the answers, everyone. The card I now use for gas just cut their discount, 2% instead of 5%, because of the high cost of gas. I'm looking for a better deal.

The BP card offers a 6% discount, but it's only an introductory offer. Also says that when you use the card for other purchases, you earn credits for gas. If anyone knows of a card with a good gas discount, let me know.

nSanity 08-25-2005 06:09 PM

ah right, thanks for that Glyphon, didnt even know there were different ratings, thought it was all standard :p

Any MAJOR name brand of gas is gonne be better than a "Billys-Big Old Gas Stop" but I only give my cars :

Chevron - Techron is shown to work very well at keeping you motor clean and 'happy'

Shell - If its good enough for ferrari, its good enough for me! Plus the V-Power is also a great addative.

rxeightr 08-25-2005 08:40 PM

NMO,
What card cut their % ?

No More Oldsmobiles 08-25-2005 08:48 PM

My AAA card. Got a note in the mail.

Mugatu 08-25-2005 09:47 PM

maybe i'm thinking of Amoco? I think BP is really Amoco gas.

Huhwha 08-25-2005 09:54 PM

Around here BP was at least 10% ethanol. Everybody avoided them like the plague. They've closed a lot of stations around here.

PaulieWalnuts 08-25-2005 10:12 PM

BP was Amoco. Amoco was a premium brand in gas. Not sure what if anything changed when BP took over.

Aseras 08-25-2005 11:04 PM

any name brand ( bp amoco shell chevron citgo texaco etc.. ) gas is fine. it's the independant stations you have to watch out for or those in the middle of nowhere that have had the same gas in their tanks for the past few years...

PaulieWalnuts 08-25-2005 11:07 PM

You mean like Bubba's gas station in the middle of the desert between SoCal and Vegas? I forgot the name of the place but it was creepy.

whiteknight 08-26-2005 01:24 AM

isnt it arco using BP or same company...or somthing like that.
question...is ARCO gasoline same quality as other brand ?

playdoh43 08-26-2005 02:13 AM

I just filled up my tank with bp tonigt, i believe they use Amaco gas, they bought out Amaco. Personally i think Shell 93 octane V power is the best normal gas money can buy, BP is also high quality, but not shell.

No More Oldsmobiles 08-26-2005 12:26 PM

The Amoco logo is next to the BP logo on the credit card ofer.

Swagman 08-26-2005 02:27 PM

BP bought Amoco years ago, but took their time about remodeling the Amoco stations to the BP look. I've always used Amoco premium gas (it's been unleaded at least since the 50's, I think), and my neighbor who owns a BP station claims all the BP gas in the US is really Amoco - hence the little stickers on the BP pumps.

All the majors are OK - some petroleum engineers claims that Shell V-Power is the best. Whatever!

I don't know why people get fooled into comparing name brands of gasoline, and saying one is better. Their advertisement has apparently fooled you, and many others. It makes no sense to me. The only difference in gas for the most part is how old it is. If you pull into a gas station that is busy all the time, and sells a lot of fuel, you're getting the same crap, whether it's Shell, BP, Exxon, or a name you never heard of. All you have to do is avoid gas stations that are small and remote, because odds are the fuel is old.
