Pretty cool find

5 Attachment(s)
When I bought my FZR600 last week I was informed that it was featured in Sport Rider a few years ago. I posted a link to the e-article in my intro thread, but I wanted to find an original copy of the issue. Unfortunately, Primedia, the company that prints Sport Rider, only prints back-issues from 2004 and up, but luckily someone invented eBay and I managed to find a mint condition copy of the August 2004 issue complete with the FZR of yours truly... Granted it wasn't mine back then, but it's pretty cool seeing your bike in print.

Disclaimer: Apparently it's been confusing people when I tell the story, but yes, if you could see the VIN number on the bike it would match the one I own. It's not just the "same model" that was featured, but the bike I actually own.

Indeed, they're even in the RX8 Multimedia/Photo Gallery forum ;)

Eh I consider it a general multimedia forum... there have been plenty of non-rx8 related threads in here before so I didn't think it would do any harm

Love the 8! ;)

rodjonathan 11-17-2009 07:33 AM

oh nice man, my first bike when i was 16 (okinawa ) was a 93 FZR 400. it was the all white with a little touch of red color scheme. jpn ppl buy bikes at 16, since you cant drive car till 18.

but nice bike man, brings back memories.

You have no idea how badly I wish there was more of a demand for sub-500cc bikes in the states... there are so many badass 125-, 250-, and 400-size motorcycles I would love to own. I'm actually thinking about picking up this little guy:

1992 GSF 400 with 15k miles on it... it's not every day you see one of these

Yah, it was very weird when i moved to the US. it was very rare to see 750's in japan. but at the time when i moved here back in 97, i saw lots of 750+ bikes. i didnt quite understand why ppl rather have heavy bikes, but then i learned that ppl love fast straight way bikes.

Very different driving habit that was i use to, where in japan, we do lots of mountain bike runs. so a light bike is what we prefered i guess.

Like the pic you posted , i had my front and engine cover off also. was a trend back t hen lol

my favorite bike that i owned, was a honda VFR 400, which was my second bike.

RickA 11-17-2009 10:20 AM

That VFR is badass, and I agree that I don't quite understand everyone's desire to own liter bikes... twisties are far more fun than nailing the throttle on the highway.

yah loved VFR and FZR equally. but that isn t my bike, but same color scheme. as for FZR, . tehy also sold bikes with race team livery there. i was able to buy Marlboro livery covers for the fzr, before i trade it in for the VFR.
yah. also one other thing was a shell shock for me is, PPl here actually love kawasaki and suzuki. but in japan its totally opposite lol. they like honda and yamaha.

but kawasaki makes good boso style bikes though.

So during that time, my fav where VFR and FZR. I didnt mind the ZXR 4, but wasnt really much on kawasaki for sport bikes. even though some of my favorite race bikes drivers drove them.

I dont follow bikes any more. but i take it that 600 is the new 400?

alfy28 11-17-2009 10:46 AM

one of my close friend had the Team TEch-21 YZF400. it was bad ass looking. i also liked Lucky Strike yamaha YZF that yamaha sold.

As for suzuki, they only sold the Johnny Walker GSX 400. looked cool, but it was a suzuki :(

600's have been popular in the states for a long time. Recently with the way gas prices are going smaller CC bikes are becoming popular again.

Personally I want to get a cafe or bobber bike :)

Ninjas and GSXR's are probably THE bikes people think of when they see a motorcycle, regardless of whether or not the bike is a Ninja or GSXR

I respect both bikes for their potential, but I'm not a fan of the general attitude GSXR riders have which is the stereotypical sport bike attitude of "go fast, be reckless, and piss everyone off."

I like most bikes and appreciate the designs, but I'm not a fan of the cookie cutter bikes... I prefer something that looks a little different, partially because I respect originality and also because I'm somewhat of an attention whore who likes doing and buying things that aren't exactly "mainstream."

Triumph is probably my favorite manufacturer... The Daytona 675 is one of my favorite full-fairing bikes while the Street/Speed Triple are my favorite nakeds

DailyDriver2k5 11-17-2009 11:58 AM

Those are sweet looking bikes, you guys are affortunate that you could have so much self discipline to ride a bike. I rode a bike once and only once and told my boss to come pick me and his bike up, I parked his 750 Honda on the side of the road, did some insane speeds on a public road and scared the crap out of myself. If I owned a bike I would kill myself for sure.:yesnod:

haha I used to say that if I ever bought a bike I would either die on the way home or my girlfriend would kill me when I got home. Well the girlfriend has been an ex-girfriend for a long time, I'm on my 4th bike in a year and I'm still alive so I guess I proved myself wrong :D:

alfy28 11-17-2009 12:23 PM

btw, what is a cafe racer look like?

i love that bike. a fellow class mate had one. he use to park his bike next to ours. so it would be like 30 sport bikes and his 1 awesome looking CB550. i use to stare at it for a good 10mins each morning. Just one of those bikes, or cars that makes you wonder what the designer was thinking, when he drew up the plans.

mah taht is nice. i would like to pick up a cafe racer. still on the wall at the moment. thinkig of getting a 94-97 miata to replace my 97 miata that was hit 2 years ago.

pdxhak 11-17-2009 12:55 PM

Cafe Racer bikes are traditionally smaller CCs and light weight. They have the low hanging handle bars and the rounded off seat. They usually have a subtle yet cool paint jobs. They can be made from any bike today but most like Triumph and Norton but you are seeing lots of Japanese bikes today being used for the the builds. You can say they were the original sport bikes.

Some say the modern "rice rocket" is basically today's Cafe Racer.

Cafe Racers started in Europe. Bobber bikes started in the US.

All of the bikes above are bad-ass, especially anything built by roland sands

I wouldn't even think twice about it... do it

I found two good cycles on craigslist but money is way too tight right now :banghead:

Both of these would be great to turn into a cafe racer.

I vote for the norton... just cleaning it up would make a fantastic bike, and a good starting point
