They have been toying with the idea for years.

zaglo6204 05-27-2006 12:38 AM

werrrrrrrrrd...

there is somethin special about the panamera name, but i'll leave it up to someone who knows more than i to tell that story.

The Carrera Panamericana was/is a sportscar racing event that was held on the open roads of Mexico. It was founded as a celebration of the completion of the Panamerican highway. It was part of a series, called The World Sportscar Championship, that at times included such races as the 24 hours of Le Mans, endurance events at Monza, Spa, Nurburgring, Sebring, and Daytona. Targa Florio and Mille Miglia were also on the schedule at one time or another.

As you can see this race series and a couple races in it had a profound effect on what Porsche named their car models. In 1955 the Carrera name appeared and has been associated with a lot of Porsche race and special models ever since. So, Porsche is carrying on its tradition of naming cars after famous races from the golden age of sportscar racing by calling its new Sedan the Panamera.

Not off hand but when I get home I'll scann the Mag and post it for ya. Its like a year old. But IMO I think it looks like crap

yiksing 05-28-2006 03:52 AM

Is that suicide door equiped as well

cjkim 05-28-2006 04:00 AM

I don't think it looks that bad, besides what looks like the immensely oversized wheels (maybe it's just the angle?) but personally, I think BMW has the 4 door performance car department covered quite nicely.

shaolin 05-28-2006 04:57 PM

I don't know about you guys but I think it looks pretty good. BTW...Porsche engineers have envied the RX-8 for some time...
