There's been talk of a merger with VW, but talks broke off a week or two ago.
Edit: I guess it says that in the article.

YaXMaNGTO 05-25-2009 03:36 PM

They're probably angling for a government handout... just like every other car company. Hey, it's free money.

delhi 05-25-2009 04:29 PM

Unpossible. Porsche AG is the most profitable car maker by a long shot.
Yax is correct. Why not line-up for free money if you can?

StealthTL 05-25-2009 04:39 PM

The VW merger was being pushed by the EU government - all car makers have to achieve a certain 'grams of CO2/kilometer' and Porsche is not going to be able to meet it.

A merger with VW, with all their economy models would satisfy the eurocrats, but who in the class can tell me the total amount of CO2 that this would save?

Correct, Little Johnny: not one single gram.......

hey hey hey, we all know that life is all about the letter of the law!

lawyers tell us that all the time!

RotoRocket 05-25-2009 08:06 PM

Porsche needs a 2.3 billion euro loan from the German Government, and so far, the government has balked.

77mjd 05-25-2009 08:54 PM

From a common sense standpoint, Porsche is more or less a niche car company and 99% of the car buying population can't afford a single one of their vehicles. Why on earth would you bail them out? I don't want to see them go away and I'd love to have a Porsche if I could but based on pure economics and reality it would make no sense at all to me.

I don't even like the idea of a merger because now, at least by idiotic US standards, you have another company that is too big to fail. Not sure if European governments share that same attitude but if this keeps happening you are going to have nothing left but a bunch of huge companies run by corrupt and greedy people, just like GM and Chrysler and they will always know they can get away with anything they want because the gov't will always bail them out.

nycgps 05-25-2009 10:23 PM

Its just that the bitchin' made them look even worst thats all.

Now ppl know Porsche's car is not as good as it looked, and their drivers cant drive for shit.

RotoRocket 05-25-2009 10:54 PM

They went to the dark side officially when they started making SUVs.

IMO!!!

kersh4w 05-26-2009 12:26 AM

Stealth, you know as well as I do with these people that it's all about their intentions and has nothing to do with results.

The point is they "tried" to save CO2 emissions. Demanding results is a capitalist thing and therefore isn't imporant.

I know. Mercedes, BMW and many others.

But Porsche?

Who's next? Ferrari?

Some car companies lose their soul when they commit certain acts, and Porsche had such a pure sports car soul that the foray into the netherworld of SUVs and such just corrupted that soul.

shazy 05-26-2009 07:55 AM

Didn't they try to be more effieciend by using Direct injection in all their cars?

kersh4w 05-26-2009 10:12 AM

Damn you, Aston Martin!!!!

(shakes fist angrily)

ANZ 05-26-2009 09:08 PM

Lets see who has money and may be interested in buying them. Maybe Tata Motors? They, like Porsche, are big fans of rear mounted air-cooled engines.

kersh4w 05-26-2009 10:51 PM

at least the ferrari suv looks nice. the lambo is just... ugh... my brother took pics of a yellow one on the road in italy.

Ross_Dawg 05-27-2009 01:36 AM

the ferrari suv lacks that, well, 'ferrariness' about it. It looks like a bone stock cayenne

This thread has just broken through and entirely new dimension in weirdness. THIS ISN'T REALITY, I SAYS!
