The poor man's Aston Martin?

Right now, if I could have any car it would be the new DB9 or Vanquish.

Do you think the 8 is a poor man's Aston?

If not, in your opinion what is the closest thing to a poor man's Aston?

Discuss! :D

i think a 350z is a poor mans aston martin..thats coming from me..i have a 94 nissan se-R..those were considered a poor mans BMW..haha

fluque 11-05-2004 01:55 PM

I don't see any resemblance between an Aston Martin and an RX8.....

I don't think the 8 is a poor man's anything, when was the last time a poor man could afford a 30,000 car? or any car for that matter.
Here's the poor man' Aston Martin: :D

XDEEDUBBX 11-05-2004 02:28 PM

^Good answer. If 8 drivers became suddenly wealthy, I don't think many would by the Aston.

Aston Martins are all about big throaty V8s and V12s, they're also usually pretty porky. If anything the Z is closer and probably the GTO is the closest.

canaryrx8 11-05-2004 05:40 PM

yup, I'd agree with that one, they're very porky, kind of remind me of a British Lincoln/caddy.

truemagellen 11-05-2004 06:29 PM

the 8 has a rotary remember...instantly falls into the class of exotic sports car

m477 11-05-2004 11:44 PM

I dunno, I always thought of the RX-8 being a poor man's M3. ("poor" in this case being a relative term :p)

RXE16T 11-06-2004 03:02 AM

The 8 is a rich man's rotary, not a poor man's 'anything' since it's unique and the most expensive rotary powered car available on the face of the Earth at this current point in time.

Porky? A British Lincoln? Are you kidding me? They are some of the most beautiful cars made.

Porky as in need a diet. The DB9 may be a wonderful car but it was just released and the older Vantage, Vanquish, and others certainly had their issues.

picosrx8 11-06-2004 02:25 PM

The Vanquish may be a LITTLE heavy at 4133lbs, but it still does 0-60 in 4.8 secs. The real bummer is after you shell out $200,000 they recommened 95 octane which can be found evrywhere  , and it only get 11mpg! Now who's complaining about their RX8s gas milage?

911SC 11-06-2004 03:22 PM

Yeah, but your 8 can't even dream about 4.8 sec. ;)

People who don't have $200,000 to spend on a car  Plus the 95 octane in europe is prettymuch the same as out 93 octane, they measure octane differently.

I would say the closest thing to a poor man's Aston is probably the Jaguar XKR. Much cheaper than the Aston, but seems similar in appearance & technology. Not cheap, but much cheaper than the Aston.

I love the look of that car with the green and yellow. As well, it is always interesting to see the size of functional rear diffusers as apposed to the decorative ones kids staple onto their cars.

Zaku-8 11-07-2004 10:51 PM

poor man's vanquish is the db9. thats how freakin expensive the vanquish is. same logic behind the modena being the "entry level" ferrari.

Although I guess the newer maseratis, at "only" 80-90k, take that place now.
