I wonder how this helps them get drugs? Maybe they are able to better witness people in their cars and their actions since the officers aren't in a marked car? I dunno. I guess it will also cut down on people believing that they can run from the cops once they've been flashed down.

NC has been using marked sports cars for a while, haven't they? I seem to remember seeing troopers driving Camaros back in the early part of the decade.

Unmarked sports cars would just be natural progression ;)

There are/were a number of marked and unmarked police package camaros with one white SS in particular that would always freak me out. These vehicles are typically with the Highway Patrol, this ZO6 is with the Sheriff's Department.

The Sheriff Department around here rarely checks for speeders as that is typically handled by Raleigh Police in the city limit and Highway Patrol on Interstate 40 and the other major highways. It appears as though they want a bigger piece of the speeding pie.

We have unmarked (State Police) and marked (local Police) high performance sportscars here in MA. Not very many, but they're out there.

edit: mostly Hemi Chargers.

I saw this lastnight on the news also. Pretty nice I might say. They Sheriff's office in Wayne county has a couple unmarked HEMI Chargers. And once I get on with Goldsboro PD, I'm gonna try my hardest to get one of their unmarked Hemis. :)

Back home in TX, this is a common occurrence. Unmarked Vettes, Camaro SS, and GT/Saleen Mustangs everywhere! Gotta remember, there are more drug runner down there than here.

I think we have one or two of those in town. They are marked.

We have unmarked Mustangs all over the place, but the worst are the "random" unmarked cars. So far I've seen a Nissan Pathfinder, Jeep Cherokee, and a 300C - I never EVER would guess those were police cars.

I've seen a PT Cruiser, a 2009 Ford Focus, a few GMC vans.. They're sneaky up here in Canada..

I live in Tennessee and I can tell you that more and more unmarked cars are emerging. We have a bunch of unmarked chargers, a celica, a durqango, and a lot of explorers. Our funniest marked car though is an old bug ha ha

havent seen many unexpected unmarkeds here in texas but i have seen the camaro thats on youtube its a constable though but yeah minus the unmarked crown vics nuthin here

^You just can't find them apparently, they are all over I35 near and around Austin and San Antonio. I've seen a few unmarked SS Camaros in San Marcos.

I saw an unmarked Mustang GT race a 350z and then pull him over here in miami... totally caught me off guard

Stealth cars do make a huge difference in traffic enforcement and getting drugs off the street.

"Oh damn steve! We just got us a Corrrr-Vette!! WOOO DOGEYS!!" <--- I'm guessing that's more to the truth. Stop speeders and drug traffickers? Yeah.. right.

I definitely get the traffic enforcement/speeding edge. But how does it help with drug enforcement? That is the part that baffles me.

They must be using is as an approach vehicle to show up somewhere to meet a drug-dealer. I can imagine showing up in a cruiser might scare most dealers away.

You saw the video from WRAL, they pulled over some suspected drug runners and came up with a few pounds of drugs so far. That's drug enforcement to me, they may have gotten lucky with those busts but since whatever they pick up off the street is just bonus. Besides the fact they never paid a dime for the car, any traffic fines or drug busts they get using it is a huge plus and revenue producing.

well, I doubt they will use that car for any undercover buys, but if your driving around in a crown vic or a charger people already suspect that is a cop. You know that feeling on the highway when you see a crown vic come up behind you :scared: and you start to worry, but it ends up being an old person or some young kid that thinks hes cool. Thats the point of having a car that is not usually a police car.

Most of the drugs they will get from using that car will be because people wont think its a cop, ie; driving by a drug sale, or making a motor vehicle stop.

When people see the police car behind them, they will start to hide "stuff" before even getting pulled over. So if your in the vette, and you get behind someone they will not try to hide anything until the lights come one and by that point its just a quick throw or stash some place.

Speaking from experience it really does matter what you drive. Sometimes its good and bad to be in a marked police car, Depends on what your objective is.
