Pics of my RX-7 (FD) model.
Well here is my model of the 1994, 3rd generation (FD) Mazda RX-7. Sporting twin sequential, intercooled turbochargers and fuel injection this was the fastest and most powerfull of the rotary powered sports cars. It was also the final rendition of this outstanding sports car to be built by the Hiroshima, Japan based manufacturer.
The kit is from Tamiya (kit# 24116). The model was sprayed with Tamiya rattle can Telefonica Blue Mettallic (TS-51). This was an experiment that faithfully followed the directions that were featured in a past Finescale Modeler article. It was sprayed straight out of the can and polished out with Novus #2 and then #1 and cotton pads. No sanding or waxing was involved! http://images6.fotki.com/v101/photos...MG_3635-vi.jpg http://images6.fotki.com/v104/photos...MG_3638-vi.jpg The interior was painted with three brands/types of Semi-gloss black, flat and of course gloss black enamels and acrylics. This is so, although the interior is basicly black leather/vinyl and carpeting, it creates differences between parts of the interior as in sheen and shade as each manufacture mixes it's paint to different formuations. The same goes for the engine compartment and chassis surfaces. http://images6.fotki.com/v93/photos/...MG_3624-vi.jpg http://images6.fotki.com/v99/photos/...MG_3648-vi.jpg http://images6.fotki.com/v103/photos...MG_3645-vi.jpg The kit was built basicly out of the box except for sparkplug wires. The chassis suspension parts were sprayed with Alclad Aluminum with a drop of Testors Dulcote added to make a great dull, cast aluminum finish! Mirrors and emblems were done with bare metal foil. http://images6.fotki.com/v104/photos...MG_3646-vi.jpg I Know it isn't an 8 but that is next on my project bench! Comments are of course welcome! Enjoy! |

DOHHH! I knew that! I just wasn't thinking past midnight! Edited to reflect the change! Thanks for the heads up! |
is the RX-8 model already available?
|
These kits are BASIC at best. The interior looks almost nothing like the real thing. I plan on painting out my windows and concentrate on teh exterior only. We call that a "Curbside" model, no engine, interior or chassis detail. Emphisis is on paint finish only.
RX-8 Type S RX-8 Aero RX-8 Type E RX-8 Hydrogen RE You can find them at better stocked hobby shops or you can order them online from the links above. |
