Never liked Peugeot, but there's a market.

Gomez 02-23-2006 12:37 AM

You lucky bastards!!

You don't have Peugeot in the US?!!

They are crap. You'd hate them. Search on posts made by me about my Peugeot......enlightening reading.

Not since 1992. From what I've heard, the older ones were decent little cars, but just weren't good enough to compete with the Japanese subcompacts of the day. If this car came over, I think that perception would change, though. 280hp @ 8500rpm seems a little low for an engine that revs that high and makes 333lbft@4500rpm, since it's already putting out 285hp at that rpm and probably puts out even more power higher up unless the turbo just shuts off right there :dunno:

It's most likely restricted.

The car is stunning though.

I dunno... most French I know abroad wouldn't even buy a French car. You guys whine about American cars... *snicker* let's look at European cars and talk about reliablity. Renault.... we all know why they aren't sold in the US anymore. I'd heard much the same of Peugeot. The best of the bunch are the German cars... and even then they usually don't measure up to the Japanese cars either.

That's a nice Peugeot, but I'd get a VW r32 first and worry less about the car falling apart.

If you compare the used technology in all these different cars, I think you would see that these french (and generally alll european) cars are quite advanced (french cars are renouned for the best handling in the world, look at the design layout of a peugeot 407 chassis). Offcourse there a risk of having some trouble... I suppose that if you drive a tractor you wouldn't have any problem at all.

German cars are better indeed, but they are 25 % more expensive (handling isn't as smooth). Here in Belgium a Rx-8 costs 38.200 euros... which converted would be around 46.000 us dollars. So buying a cheaper, more nimble and actually quite smart french car is the option a lot of people just have to make.

performance potential...i guess... but is it me... or is it styling wise like a lot of other hatchbacks?

design wise if you like this, then you like prev gen civic si, mistu mirages and a load of other hatchbacks dare I say xA.

I welcome Peugeot back to the states if it happens cause i enjoy the diversity, but to call this stunning in my opinion is a bit much, from a looks perspective. I won' t argue with the HP numbers though.

:)

You're just looking at it and seeing a hatch. To me what you said it kinda like saying all sedans look alike. Do a side by side photo comparison of those cars you just compared it to and they are quite different.

You can't honestly believe this looks like the 207...

It could be, but that still doesn't explain the false max power rating (unless the torque or rpm number is off). :dunno:

The Peugeot in GT for PS2 was cool.

Yeah, see what you're saying, I mean I certaintly think the 207 looks cooler than that....I just don't think its stunningly better. I like hatches especially european ones, but think the back mainly of the 207 does look like some other hatches.

How come Top Gear always snickers or gives American cars a bad name (more-or-less) saying that European cars will run circles around them (thinking of the Top Gear 2005 Mustang review specifically). Brits can't all drive BMW, Audi, Aston Martin and Land Rovers. I've always heard that European cars are better overall than Americans, especially when it comes to interiors.

BlueEyes 02-25-2006 01:05 PM

The don't always snicker. They like a lot of the Ford cars over there. The Focus always gets good reviews. They laugh at the mustang for the same reason we laugh at the mustang.
