Parking ticket: to pay or not to pay...

I understand that parking tickets are generally not a big deal. I recently got a ticket for parking too long in a particular area of downtown Annapolis. The ticket is only 25 bucks and I wouldnt mind paying it except the information regarding my license plate is incorrect. The cop made the mistake of saying my car was registered in Maryland and not the state in which I currently have the car registered. Do I just not pay the ticket and not worry about anything or do I contact someone about it and have it dismissed?

fight for it!

Gish 02-10-2008 04:12 PM

You might be able to get out of it, but then again your car might get towed so...

tiggerlee 02-10-2008 04:13 PM

If the info on the actual ticket is incorrect chances are you can get it dismissed.

I did. :)

worth your time?

Its only 25 bucks. If it where me i would just mail them a check. Its not worth my time to call down (definatly not worth going down) and arguing with someone over the ticket. Besides its not like you where wrongfully cited.

I dont know how much time it will take you but i figure at least 2 hours in pheonix. my time is worth more than that to me. YMMV.

Take a picture of a 25 dollar cheque, that's a good way to stick it to the man!

You're fine. That ticket can't follow the vehicle, 'cause the wrong state was listed. As far as you (and the city of Annapolis) is concerned, your car was never ticketed. Some car with a Maryland license plate and the same license plate numbers got a ticket, but your car did not.

In other words, it's not your problem. Throw it away and move on.

LOL just pay it! Those stupid things have a way of coming back and biting you in the ass...

seriously its 25 bucks

CyberPitz 02-19-2008 01:14 PM

You could easily go down, and say, "This isn't my car, for it's not tagged in *so so*" They will dismiss it easily.

Jedi54 02-19-2008 01:16 PM

pay it you cheap ass. ;)

Spinning Sushi 02-19-2008 01:19 PM

If it says it's registered in the wrong state then you don't have to pay it.

Reason: It means that person with the same license plate in Maryland got the ticket, not you so you don't have to pay it.

Although, that's sort of a asshole way to think about it. :)

VolcomStoneX 02-19-2008 01:19 PM

Lol!

Detrich 02-19-2008 01:38 PM

pay it first, then contest it. that way if paperwork gets screwed up at least it shows u paid for it.

NgoRX8 02-19-2008 07:41 PM

its only 25 bucks... but if u seriously want to contest it, pay it then fight.

jones75254 02-19-2008 08:04 PM

Pay for it, because you DID deserve it, no? Is only 25 bucks and you have that whole Karma thing to think about.

tajabaho1 02-19-2008 09:06 PM

I'm asian, I say don't pay

Mazurfer 02-19-2008 10:37 PM

Ever watch 'Parking Wars" on A&E...........here comes the boot man. :icon_no2:
You could probably fight it and win, but for $25.00 and I know I did it, pay the damn thing and let them know that the ticket was issued incorrectly, they may just dismiss it right on the spot.

IcarusX8 02-19-2008 11:00 PM

DO NOT just ignore it. Appeal it, you'll most likely get off with it.

Razz1 02-19-2008 11:29 PM

Don't pay it and watch them issue you a warrant. Then they will come hall you off 5 years from now.

I got the same, with my plate as IL instead of CA. I havn't paid it, and i have recently registered my car, without any holds at the DMV...

If the parking idiot cant get the state right, what does that say about his competency in the ticketing decision! (Despite the fact i was blatantly parked in a permit only spot).

I didnt pay because of the principal of the thing, id rather donate the $25 to a worthwhile charity than local filth. :D

+1

if they cant even read the plate right they should be giving out tickets. that is their job, is like saying a bus driver stopped at the wrong bus stop

crafted_soul 02-21-2008 06:26 PM

To pay or not to pay....that is the question..indeed

stracos 02-21-2008 10:54 PM

There is an expression. Don't F with a bigger crook than you are.
