Paintless Dent Removal?

I have only had my winnning blue RX-8 less than a month and I have went the extra mile to park safely. However about two days ago I came out from work to the parking lot and saw my worst nightmares confirmed. A shopping cart had rolled into my left rear door and made two distinctive dents. I talk to the dent wizard guy that will be at the dealership on Thursday and told him my ordeal. His said the small dent would be no problem but the larger one, about golf ball size is in the crease, he said may be a problem. I am sick about this and just wondering if anyone in here is expierenced in PDR. ie Paintless Dent Removal. Maybe you can bring my hopes back to life that it will look normal when he is done. I am told he is very good and has been doing it a long time.

I've had a similiar experience happen to my 8. Even if he can't get it to look like new you'll have to strain your eyes to see the mark when he's done. No one else will probably ever notice it.

Find a Master Tech. I've got a friend who's a 4-Star Master Tech with Dent Wizard. This basically means he's a badass dent guy. He does the easy stuff fast and the hard stuff the regular techs can't do. A Master Tech may be able to do the larger one in the crease... it's worth finding one.

They really are amazing at what they do...

The dent wizard guy is supposed to call me back today to arrange a meeting. I will ask him if he is a master tech or if there is one available.

DO IT!

I had a door opened up on my 8 in a parking lot. Smacked it pretty hard with to big dents (well, they were big to me). I was sick for 3 days. Every time I went to enter my car I saw the flaws and it made my stomach churn. A paintless dent removal guy came by my office and worked on it for about 2 hours. After he had finished, I could not see any evidence of a dent. It cost me $75 and it was the best money I've ever spent. After a week of bragging about how good a job was done, I forgot about it. That is what you want to happen. :D

Cool

I'm feeling better already!! I talked to the guy today and he is supposed to fix it at 5:00pm EST today. I'll post the results.

SilverEIGHT 11-29-2004 11:36 AM

Why don't you do a before and after pic?

catinaround69 11-29-2004 12:19 PM

I'll try..... The car is already dropped off but I may swing by and snap a before shot.

I had a small dent repaired on my drivers door. It's now virtually undetectable. Make sure the guy is good. The quality of PDR varies greatly. I personally would get references and verify the quality of his work before allowing him to work on my car. Also, I've heard aluminum is harder to work. Make sure he knows the rear doors are not steel. My .02

After hail storms down here in Texas, there are tons of vehicles that visit the dent removal awnings that are set up all around the area. I have seen a lot of cars look like there was never hail damage. Then there are other cars that you could still tell slightly. One common way to remove them is they rub dry ice over the area and it causes it to pop back.

catinaround69 11-29-2004 01:42 PM

I did know the rear doors were aluminum.

Yes .....definately go for the PDR.

It is cheaper and all around better for your car. Factory paint left intact....and no dents. No brainer.

My PDR story...

Has anyone tried that dent remover thing sold at most auto stores like Auto Zone (actually i've seen it advertised on TV) etc... It kind of looks like three suction cups and i guess you have to (dare I say it) GLUE it to your car, then you just keep turning the nob and the dent just MAGICALLY pops out... I have two noticable dents from careless people in parking lots who have no respect for other cars, and i debated weather or not to buy this product. I was a little sketched out by the fact that you have to glue the suction cup on....any comments?

Paintless dent removal

Yeah...I misjudged by about an inch the other day in traffic and rubbed a newer Oldsmobiles corner of the bumper from the middle of my passenger door all the way to the back of my right fender well. I ended up with one very undectable dent where it first started and a dent about the size of a baseball on the front part of the fender. YUCK! I'm pretty sure I can buff out the scuffs, but the dents...dunno. I was thinking about a PDR after taking it to the dealer where he gave me a quote of $1600.

Just got my car back!!!

I just picked up my car and I am very pleased. The small dent if 100% undetectable and the larger one in the crease is about 98%. If you look real close at a certain angle you can see a slight variation. I can live with this and in time I feel like I will forget about it. It cost me 85 bucks and I would definatley use him again. I think he was even proud of himself.

SilverEIGHT 11-29-2004 05:35 PM

Thumbs up! :)

lynn02 11-29-2004 09:30 PM

I just had my car fixed by Dent Wizard a few weeks ago. My dent was in the crease on the rear passenger side. I must say I'm pleased. My car looks great again. :)

I've heard it's crap... from my friend the 4-Star Master Tech. He's got no reason to BS me - I get dent work for free :)

Dent Prone

Seems like from what I'm hearing the 8's must be somewhat dent prone. Maybe they should have made them with the same s##t that they use on Saturn doors. At the Saturn dealership I went to they let you kick the doors.
