OFFICIAL NEW MAZDA2 pics (or- Brillo should have waited a couple days ;) )

Here they are folks the first official pics of the new b segment car from Mazda. The Mazda2 based on the sassou concept from last year. Mazda was given the lead at designin gthis new bsegment platform which will underpin the new Ford Fiesta as well. Could also show up under a certain european brand.

Rumours still abound (many started by me i think) that this Mazda2 will be coming stateside although Mazda North America is still denying it.

Car debuts at Geneva in March

So this is smaller than a 3, must be tight on a 5 door model. I guess they just loped off teh cargo space or something.

XDEEDUBBX 02-13-2007 12:02 PM

these micro cars are popping up everyewhere..The U.S. finally caught on..

Nemesis8 02-13-2007 12:24 PM

Looks like an olive in my martini - LOL

dynamho 02-13-2007 12:30 PM

So far, it's the best looking subcompact car among those slated for or in production.
I can see hints of the "flow" design theme.

rebelx 02-13-2007 01:00 PM

Where the Zoom, Zoom boys out to lunch? I realize that micro cars are more economical rather than fashionable or sporty. However, Mazda should have added a dash of Zoom at least cosmetically. At the very least it would have turned more people on to the concept. Most people buy micro cars for economic reason which equals (in their eyes) a smart investment. Why not up the bar and make it stylish and economic. I love the Olive quote! I would also go with a Jelly Belly!

zoom44 02-13-2007 01:13 PM

that is stylish- did you see the previous Mazda 2?

http://www.mazda.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/...2_hero_RHD.jpg

this new one is much more stylish and aggresive from the slope of the hood and a pillar to the "angle of attack" of the whole car

edit: just realised how "cx-7ish" the whole profile is...

ASH8 02-13-2007 01:47 PM

Yeah, its a great improvement, In most car class reviews/comparisons the Mazda 2 had a lot of journalist disliking the "Boxy" and square rear end, even though the cargo room is huge for its class...

This new Mazda 2 will do well...the front reminds me a little of the Ford KA.

Pity you guys won't be getting it..well not at the moment..

BTW...I have not read the links but this Mazda is Only going to be made in Japan.

ASH8 02-13-2007 02:13 PM

rebelx, a designer is somewhat constrained when it has to fit on a small platform and able to fit 4 adults comfortably, you know exterior and interior height/width/length.

The Japanese do it better than most in the mini-micro class...

BTW: Engine remain the same 1.5 litre 4-cylinder with Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT)..
82 kW at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm at 4,000rpm.

A Ford Puma.. The front end does atleast. Seems like the Puma if you will grew up a bit and had some doors added. Does look nice though :)

brillo 02-13-2007 03:52 PM

I saw that, but you beat me to it. :D:

It is the best looking subcompact on the market to date. Once again, I'm sure they'll sell everyone they can make.

Renesis_8 02-13-2007 04:03 PM

Yeah I agree as well, I dont know how the plants @ Japan can keep up with the demand! Mazda keeps expanding their lineup and moving production back to Japan, it makes me wonder...

The most stylish and attractive of the subcompacts. It'll give the Fit a run for its money in terms of driving dynamics and it should have the nicest interior as well if Mazda keeps up the good work.

Someone put the Yaris out of its miserable existence.

ASH8 02-14-2007 01:01 AM

And it will give the new FIAT 500 out soon a run for its money also...in Europe.

Yep, Renesis 8 their plants are flat out...which is a good thing..

As Zoom says when you look at the New Mazda 2 you can see CX-7, also a little 8 in the front fenders (like the CX-7)...
Will be interesting to see the all new Mazda 6 soon and its styling, perhaps the new 2 has shown us some hints?

NO TWIN EXHAUST ON THE NEW 2 :icon_tdow :wink2:

ASH8 02-14-2007 01:29 AM

Just more info to hand....

There is also a 1.4 litre Turbo Diesel in the pipeline.

Mazda has used high-strength steels to slash the car’s overall weight by 100kg.
The new Two is 40mm shorter (3880mm) than the current car but has the same wheelbase at 2490mm. It is also 55mm lower and is 5mm wider at 1695mm.

Inside the cabin is roomier and takes some cues from the Mazda3 and Mazda6 with its flap-style air vents. The gearshift lever has also moved up to the lower part of the dashboard to allow more console room.

Luggage space has clearly been sacrificed for the car’s funkier looks with rear luggage room of 250 litres, or 469 litres with the back seats folded.

Globally, Mazda2 has attracted more than 410,000 customers in the four years from January 2003.

lesper4 02-14-2007 01:55 AM

looks like a smaller tilted down cx-7

NgoRX8 02-14-2007 02:07 AM
